PRE/POST CONFERENCE TOUR # 1: ISTANBUL – TROY & GALLIPOLI(DATES AND PRICES WILL BE ANNOUNCED)
--
Çanakkale
The province of Canakkale lies on both sides of the Dardanelles which connects the Sea of Marmara to the Aegean Sea. Its shores touch both Europe (with the Gelibolu Peninsula) and Asia (with the Biga Peninsula) and there are regular ferries between the two sides.
The province has witnessed two very important battles in history. One of them is the mythological war of Troy, which Homer immortalized in his Iliad. Archaeological digs in Troy (Truva) have proved that there had been nine separate periods of settlement (3000 BC- 400 AD). Here, one can see the ruins of city walls in addition to the Wooden Horse of Troy. The other one is the Battle of Canakkale which took place during World War I when Turkish troops under the command of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk maintained the defense of the region against enemy forces and Canakkale has taken its place in history as “Canakkale; unpassable”. To honor the 500,000 soldiers who gave their lives or wounded at Gelibolu (Gallipoli), this peninsula has been made a national park of remembrance. There are memorial monuments here in surroundings of natural beauty.
The small village of Behramkale is a lovely place, facing the Gulf of Edremit. It is founded on the site of Assos where there is the famous Temple of Athena built in the 6th century BC. The panoramic view of the Gulf from the top of the acropolis is breathtaking and the remains of Assos, surrounding the acropolis are worth visiting.
Gökceada, the largest of the Turkish islands, and Bozcaada are also in this region. There are many camping facilities and small hotels, sea food restaurants on the islands. Ferries to Gokceada depart from Kabatepe, and to Bozcaada they depart from Geyikli piers.

PRE/POST CONFERENCE TOUR # 2: ISTANBUL – ANTALYA(DATES AND PRICES WILL BE ANNOUNCED)
Antalya
Because of the archaeological and natural riches of the area, Antalya is also known as the Turkish Riviera. The sun, sea, nature and history combine to form a very popular resort, highlighted by some of the cleanest beaches in the Mediterranean. The 630 km. shoreline of the province is liberally scattered with ancient cities, harbors memorial tombs and beaches, secluded coves and lush forests, many of which are easily accessible from the city. With its palm-lined boulevard, internationally acclaimed marina, and old castle with traditional architecture, all set amidst a modern city, Antalya is a major tourist centre in Turkey. In addition to the wide selection of hotels, restaurants, bars, nightclubs and shops, the city also plays host to a number of sporting events throughout the year, like international beach volleyball, triathlon, golf tournaments, archery, tennis and canoeing competitions. The Cultural Centre, which opened in 1995, hosts cultural and art events in the fields of music, theatre, and creative arts. The main area of interest in the city is central old quarter within the Roman walls, known as Kaleici, and there are many good museums. Districts: Akseki, Alanya, Elmali, Finike, Gazipasa, Gundogmus, Ibradi, Kale, Kas, Kemer, Korkuteli, Kumluca, Manavgat and Serik are all towns in the province of Antalya.

TEF-EEC at a GlanceTurkish National Committee for Earthquake Engineering (TNCEE) was established in accordance with the Statutes of the International Association of Earthquake Engineering adopted in 1965. The Committee was composed of members from the Ministry of Public Works and Settlement, Boğaziçi, Istanbul Technical and Middle East Technical Universities.
Turkish Earthquake Foundation (TEF) was established in 1993. Its president was late Prof.Dr. Rıfat Yarar until he passed away in 2004. One of the main purposes of the establishment of TEF was to support the Turkish National Committee for Earthquake Engineering (TNCEE). According to the Statutes of the TEF, which was approved by the Court of Foundations. In forming an umbrella organization over TNCEE, TEF has secured permission from the Turkish Cabinet of Ministers on 31.10.1996 to represent Turkey in the International Association of Earthquake Engineering.
It was unanimously decided in the General Assembly of TNCEE in March 2009 to continue the activities of the Turkish National Committee under the umbrella of the Turkish Earthquake Foundation (TEF). This change has allowed us to retain our non-governmental status with the same composition and same statues of the TNCEE.
Thus our new name became: Turkish Earthquake Foundation-Earthquake Engineering Committee (TEF-EEC).
Who Is TEF -EEC?Most of the academicians, researchers, and practitioners, actively involved in Earthquake Engineering in Turkey were members of TNCEE and presently are members of TEF-EEC. TEF-EEC is open to all engineers and scientists involved in earthquake engineering.
TNCEE has been very active in the field of Earthquake Engineering since it was established. The Committee has actively contributed to the preparation of Turkish Seismic Design Codes in 1975, 1997 and recently in 2007.
The Fifth European Conference on Earthquake Engineering in 1975 and Seventh World Conference on Earthquake Engineering in 1980 were organised by TNCEE. In addition TNCEE has organised seven EAEE Regional Seminars as well as six National Conferences on earthquake engineering.
TEF-EEC is active as in the past. The 21st EAEE Regional Seminar on Earthquake Engineering was organised in June 2010 on “Seismic Assessment and Retrofit of Bridges” and the 7th Turkish National Conference on Earthquake Engineering was organised in 2011, and 2ECEES will be organised in August 2014.
Mission and Goals• To contribute for the development of all earthquake engineering fields in Turkey,• To actively contribute to the preparation of Turkish Seismic Design Codes,• To cooperate and establish joint projects with national and international institutions and agencies to mitigate earthquake losses,• To take part in activities of the International and European Associations of Earthquake Engineering• To organise joint activities with related ministries, government agencies, engineering chambers, and private enterprises, and take part and give full support to the activities organised by the others• To organise National Earthquake Engineering Conferences with regular intervals• To organise national and international seminars, symposiums, workshops and conferences,
