15th Sunday in Ordinary Time
July 11 & 12, 2015
Amos 7:12-15 Go, prophesy to my people
Psalm 85 “Lord, let us see your kindness, and grant us your
Salvation.”
Ephesians 1:3-14 God chose us in Christ, before the foundation of
or 1:3-10 the world..
Mark 6:7-13 He began to send them out..
When Jesus sent out the Twelve in today’s Gospel, he didn’t equip them with very
much, just a walking stick, the clothes on their back, and a pair of sandals. For the rest
they had to depend on God. Yet they had great success on their mission. Perhaps one
lesson we can learn is dependence on God. Let us listen to God’s holy work, keeping
in mind how we can depend more on God.
16th Sunday in Ordinary Time
July 18 & 19, 2015
Jeremiah 23:1-6
Psalm 23
Ephesians 2:13-18
Mark 6:30-34

Today’s Gospel seems so far removed from the typical American
Catholic life. We don’t share our faith by taking nothing for the
journey—we don’t even “journey” down the block to tell people
we are Catholic!
So who could today’s Gospel apply to sharing our faith with
others?
Surprisingly, most of us are actually quite like the disciples who
took nothing for the journey. How? Because most of us feel
completely unprepared to talk about Jesus, to talk about our
Catholic faith. We are “naked” and feel like we have nothing to
offer, nothing to say to people we encounter in life.
Rather than tell you to grab you Bible and start memorizing pas-
sages, I want to encourage you to pray to be like the disciples.
Pray to be more open and willing to talk with others about Jesus.
Today’s Gospel tells us that Jesus will speak through you to heal
and cure others of their deepest ailments. I know this sounds
sappy and idealistic, but my faith tells me to ask you to try.
