General Managers Message

Members,

Summer has officially begun! The swimming pool is open and ready for business! May was

supposed to be a busy month for us but unfortunately mother nature had other plans. The

mid part of the month the weather turned unseasonably cool and wet which led to the cancel-

lation of the Hopper Foundation tournament and the Ladies Member-Guest. The Hopper

Tournament has been rescheduled for Tuesday, October 4, 2016.

We were however able to play the Ladies Memorial Tournament on the 15th.

The top 3 places were:

1. Debbie Claybrook, Grace Fitzgerald, Joan Moore, Judy Washburn - 74

2. Pat Vaughn, Alwiner Collins, Judy Pope, Jane Scruggs - 79

3. Judy Rice, Novella Earles, Dawn Mann, Karen Walker - 79

There were 2 closest to pin winners and they were:

Hole #4 - Grace Fitzgerald

Hole #16 - Dawn Mann

Beginning June 4th, we will be double teeing off the front and back sides on weekends. Tee

times will run from 7:30-9:20 off of both sides and will resume at 12pm off of #1 only. We

are trying this process so we can get more players on the golf course before the scorching

heat gets to us. This is on a one month trial basis!!!! Let the golf shop know your thoughts

once we have begun the new times!!!

Sonny and his staff have been tirelessly working on the golf course to enhance you and your

guest’s playing pleasure while here. He has re-sodded to the right of #1 green, the bare spots

on holes #10 & #18 and around the putting green. The gold/red tee on #11 has also been re-

sodded. We are enjoying seeing the progress and more to come!

Let’s look forward to many days of warmth and sunshine this month. We deserve it! See

you on the course.

Superintendent’s Message

I would like to address some things going on around the

course. My staff and I took a somewhat aggressive yet

old manner in getting our greens ready for the upcom-

ing summer. We performed two aerifications, with the

later using larger tines and choosing to not top dress as

heavy with the temperatures being in the upper 80’s.

Had we not had the excessive rains another topdressing

would have quickly followed. By the time this comes

out we will have applied a couple of light topdressings

to help smooth out the greens. After our onslaught of

goose grass on several greens last year we have been

aggressive in the controls used for that as well.

Poa breakthrough in the fairways and rough is a result

of a very wet and warm late fall. I have been applying

post-emerge products to help eradicate this issue. You

will also notice several areas where we have installed

sod. In these areas we worked in some topsoil to help

the sod have a stronger chance in getting established.

We do have some other areas that we plan on reclaim-

ing with turf.

If you have a curiosity of what or why we are doing

things please ask me.

Sonny

SAFETY CONCERNS

Golf carts may seem harmless but golf carts are not

toys. Golf carts can be very hazardous for children

when not operated properly. A study conducted in 2008

found that most golf cart accidents involving children

less than 16 years of age involve passengers being

thrown from the golf cart due to high speeds and sharp

turns. To protect your children when operating golf

carts, be sure to follow these safety tips.

Safety tips

Golf carts should only be driven by licensed drivers

or if an adult is present.

Obey all basic driving etiquette - never drive reck-

lessly, never drive distracted, obey all vehicle traffic

laws and rules of the road, stay on cart paths or des-

ignated roads and never try to go off-roading.

Only operate the golf cart with correct number of

passengers.

Keep hands and feet inside the golf cart at all times.

Do not allow anyone to ride standing in the vehicle

or on the back platform of the vehicle. Do not put

vehicle in motion until all passengers are safely

seated inside vehicle.

A golf cart should be operated at the same speed as

a well-paced walk but no faster than 15 mph.

Avoid sharp turns at high speeds and drive straight

up and down slopes to reduce the risk of passenger

ejections or rollover. Avoid excessive speed, sudden

starts, stops and fast turns.

When not operating the golf cart, be sure to remove

key and store safely.

Do not leave keys in golf cart while unattended and

make sure the parking brake is set.
