Group Fitness Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) classes Tuesday, April 12, 2016 Greater Kingston I am very active and walk a lot every day. Over the years I have attended several group fitness classes. On July 29, 2014, I started my latest round of classes 20 months and two weeks ago. I have a very noticeable kyphosis and was hunched over my walker and bearing down on the hand-grips. The posts of my adjustable hand-grips had only one notch visible. Over time as I grew back my posture, my family raised a notch at a time the height of my walker hand-grips at my request. Today I had the walker hand-grips raised another notch so instead of one notch showing there are now FOUR visible, the maximum!!!! Just look at the photo and imagine the hand-grips down three more notches and me hunched over bearing down on the walker’s hand-grips. Today I am standing beautifully straight and have my walker for peace of mind and just in case I need it to keep my balance. One of the things over these last 20 months and two weeks that I have learned is to walk with a soft bend in my hips and knees so I have… greater confidence, stability, mobility, function and balance, my greatest challenge. Look how relaxed I am in the photo! Also, I love the exercise where we move one leg forward, side, behind and centre while our arms follow and fingers move like on a piano keyboard. We call it “The Tickle, Tickle.” In the beginning I moved my feet only forward and backward and now I have improved joint mobility and function and step in all three directions and return to centre. I am now 88 years young. When I am not able to attend a class, I really miss it. I am so glad classes are one hour and now twice weekly. Please share with others so they can get similar benefits.
