Week Beginning – Monday 1 st June – Year One Phonics Activities This week’ we are going to recap the split digraphs. a-e,, i-e, o-e, u-e We have provided 2 options for most of the tasks for you to choose from. Like previous tasks, Option B is more independent. Please only choose ONE task per day. Phonics Task 1 – Option A This activity can be done inside or outside. Write each of the sounds a-e i-e o-e u-e on separate labels, paper or post its. Go around your house and find 3 objects that make this sound. Some ideas could be: - Cake - wire - robe -cube - snake - time - stone - tube - tape - knife - hose - cute If you can’t find an object, a picture or a photo is fine. When you find the object, come back and put it next to the sound. Ask an adult to look with you and decide together if you have put them on the right sound. Write a colourful felt tip label for each object using your sound buttons. Take a photo of your collection with your labels and you can then send this to us! This week’ we are going to recap the split digraphs.a-e,, i-e, o-e, u-e

We have provided 2 options for most of the tasks for you to choose from. Like previous tasks, Option B is more independent. Please only choose ONE task per day.

Phonics Task 1 – Option AThis activity can be done inside or outside. Write each of the sounds a-e i-e o-e u-e on separate labels, paper or post its.

Extension- can you put these words into a sentence

Phonics Task 3 – Option A Let’s make some silly sentences!!! Using a handful of the

words you have gathered together over the past two days, can you put them into a few sentences using a mixture of the sounds? ‘The huge bike exploded by the cake’. Choose a few of your favourite silly sentences and write them out, making sure that you include a capital letter and a full stop. Now practise reading them fluently with expression to make your grown up laugh.

Task 3 –option B –see attachmentCan you match up the words below? Then use these words to make some silly sentences without forgetting your full stops and capital letters. Can you read them aloud with expression?

Phonics Task 4 – Option A Roll a ball between you and a partner. Start with the word cake – as you roll the ball say a word that rhymes with cake- it can be a nonsense word. Keep going and find as many words as you can. Then change to bike, home, tune. If you like you can make a list of the words you both said.

Task 4 Option B

Phonics Task 5 – Option AThis can be done together or independently!

Now year 1, let’s play Phonics Bingo! You will need a stopwatch, a piece of paper and a pen!

a-e i-e o-e u-e

Step 1:- Choose 9 or 12 words for your bingo grid. Now draw a bingo grid that you are going to

use. Two examples are below:

Step 2:- Fill in your Bingo grid with your chosen words, make sure that they are spelt correctly.

You can do this independently or with your family. Get a member of your family to check your words are spelt correctly with the right sounds. If you are unsure, check at the top of this activity for a reminder!

Step 3:- Get your timer/stopwatch ready!

Step 4:- GO GO GO! - You are going to sound out your words as quick as possible making sure you say the

words correctly. Step 5

- Now ask your parent or a family member to read out the words with the sounds, adding in some different words during this so you are not just listening to the words with the sounds on your bingo grid.

- Tick, circle or cross the word out if you have it. When you have a line or a full house (all of the boxes ticked) shout BINGO!

Task 5 Option B You can now play a game! Log onto the internet and search for Phonics Play. Here is the username and password. Username – march20Password – home

Go to phase 5 Buried Treasure and select on the sounds from this week; a-e, i-e, o-e u-e, these will be separate games, so you are playing a game whilst learning, FUN!!
