  • OUR LADY OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT CHURCH HARRISBURG, PA THIRTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME OCTOBER 29, 2017

OLBS and Knights of Columbus Fundraisers – Please help support the December 2017 Calendar Lottery Tickets that are now for sale after all Masses in the Social Hall. Similar to previous calendar raffles, each ticket is $20 and has 2 live numbers every day in December to win cash prizes. Great for holiday gift ideas!! Thus far, 202 tickets have been in the hands of potential sellers and 55 of those are now sold. So please support our Parish and sell to family and friends. Proceeds from this fundraiser go to the Parish for operational expenses. Bulletin Advertising As you may know, we self-print our weekly bulletin. This is done so we generate the most amount of revenue for the Parish. To this end, all parishioners, local organizations, and businesses are encouraged to contact Bob Hawley or the Parish Office to inquire about advertising in the Parish Bulletin. A word of thanks to the many who have supported our Parish Bulletin with advertising over the past year – your support has allowed us to continue to print a weekly bulletin. May the Lord bless you for your generosity.

The Tribunal of the Diocese of Harrisburg will be giving a presentation concerning marriage, divorce and annulment according to Church teaching. Please remember to turn in your All Souls Envelopes by today, Sunday, October 29th so that the names of those you would like present on the altar during November are included in our Masses. All Saints' Day was formally started by Pope Boniface IV, who consecrated the Pantheon at Rome to the Virgin Mary and all the Martyrs on May 13 in 609 AD. Boniface IV also established All Souls' Day, which follows All Saints.

  • Why do Catholics consider Mary to be so important?

The Church’s principal teachings about the Blessed Virgin Mary by James F. Gontis The chief reasons that it is important to know the truth about Mary are that: - Knowing the truth about the Blessed Mother helps us to know the truth about her Son, Jesus, the Redeemer of mankind. - Mary always leads us to Jesus. - To help people, be they your children, other family members, students in your classes or programs, other Catholics, non-Catholics, etc. deepen in the truth and can help them along on the path to salvation. What are the four Marian dogmas? A. Mother of God B. Immaculate Conception C. Perpetual Virginity D. Assumption This week: The Holy Rosary . For this final week of October, designated by the Catholic Church as the month of the Holy Rosary, we focus our attention on this devotion. It is the “Contemplation of the face of Christ in the school of Mary.” Pope John Paul II, Rosarium Virginis Mariae. This devotion was loved by the saints. The Rosary has a quieting rhythm and a lingering pace.

It was the favorite prayer of Saint Pope John Paul II, St. Maximilian Kolbe, St. Padre Pio, and Blessed Bishop Sheen to name only a few. Pray the Rosary for families and for peace in the world. Saint John Paul II added the Luminous Mysteries – focus is on the public ministry of Jesus Christ. They are said on Thursdays. The Decade Prayer for the rosary, commonly known as the Fatima Prayer, was revealed by Our Lady of Fatima on July 13, 1917. “O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, and lead all souls to Heaven, especially those in most need of Thy mercy.”

She asked the three shepherd children, Francisco, Jacinta, and Lucia, to recite it at the end of each decade of the rosary. It was approved for public use in 1930, and has since become a common (though optional) part of the rosary. Mary made 15 promises to St. Dominic to those who say the rosary. Find out more information about the promises here: http://www.themostholyrosary.com/15promises.htm

If you have forgotten how to pray the Rosary, or are just a little rusty, there are pamphlets on the table in the back of the church, courtesy of the Knights of Columbus for you to bring home with you.

    October is Respect Life Month.

Coffee & Donuts Helper - Can you help??? If Coffee and Donuts are to continue someone MUST volunteer to clean up after the 10:30 AM Mass, in the Social Hall. It is EASY!

#1 - Pull the plug of the coffee maker. No Fires!

#2 - Pour out the left over coffee and wash the pots and pitchers.

**#3 - Leftover donuts - If there are any left: Take them home to their families, (**or Eat them first) or throw them away.

#4 - Wipe the counter and the Coffee maker off.

The more folks volunteer, the less time it will take to do this or can rotate. Ideally, we need two. We have folks coming in early to set up and we need folks to stay and help clean up. Call the office if you can help and would like this ministry to continue. 717-233-1014
