Detailed ReportDetailed Report
Unit Operation Summary
Hydrogen Peroxide is produced by the hydrogenation of Quinone followed by the oxidation of the resultant Hydroquinone to produce Hydrogen Peroxide and the original Quinone molecule which is recycled. The Hydrogen Peroxide is produced at 35% in water and can be concentrated to 65% in the concentration facility.
HydrogenationQuinone is reacted with Hydrogen using a palladium catalyst at 1.0-1.5 bar pressure. The catalyst has been removed from the process. They hydrogenator is of stainless steel construction and is 12.5’ diameter by 18’ tall. This is an exothermic reaction so the reactor has internal cooling as well as an inlet cooler

The palladium catalyst is recovered with multiple filtration steps. The first filtration step involves candle filters inside the hydrogenators. Two steps of leaf filtration are used after that. All of the filtering equipment is stainless steel.

The Hydroquinone is then reacted with Oxygen from the Elliott Oxidizer Air Compressors to produce Hydrogen Peroxide. In this same reaction, the Hydroquinone returns to its original Quinone form. The stainless steel oxidizers (2) are 8’ diameter by 41’ tall. They operate at 3 bar pressure and are fed with a 4,600 NCMH air compressor.

The Hydrogen Peroxide is then extracted with water with an exit concentration of about 35%. Some organic compounds are also removed in this stage. The extractor is stainless steel and is 5’ diameter by 60’ tall.

Hydrogen Peroxide from the extractor can be concentrated up to 60% in the concentration facility by vaporization with steam and absorption in a packed column. The vaporizer is stainless at 4.5’ diameter by 12’ tall.
Building
The building footprint is apporximately 100’ x 80’ at the bottom and 60’ x 40’ for the top three floors. It is seven floors tall which makes it about 100’ tall.
