ENGAGE ROTARY - CHANGE LIVES THE GEN ROTARY CLUB OF GLEN EIRA DEFIB OUR CLUB All Rotary Clubs are different. Some are big, some are small. Some have more women, some have more men. Some have hundreds of members, some just handfuls. Whilst globally, Rotary’s numbers are going up, across the Western World, Rotary numbers are decreasing. Our membership is being overshadowed by huge increases in India and the Philippines. Yet in countries like the USA, UK and Australia, our numbers are falling. Rotarians are ageing and long-standing traditional clubs are finding it difficult to sustain their members. To assist with the challenges facing Rotary and other community organisations, our Rotary District is promoting its Club Vision program. Independent Rotary facilitators help involve every member of the club and hear what he or she has to say. It helps get clubs truly establish where they want to be and how to accurately be a reflection of the communities where they are. This is not a mere strategic planning session. The Rotary Club of Maryborough in a neighbouring vision determining that if Rotary International can eradicate polio, they would eradicate poverty in Maryborough. It’s not about creating another planning document to gather dust on your bookshelf. This is a way to determine how the club can operate within its means and provide community service that will make a difference. Sometimes we don’t listen to each other as well as we should, but it’s time for us to remember that at heart we are a Service Club, not a Dining Club, and that together we can make a difference in the way that we as members want to make a difference. Last week we learnt from nurse Anne Holland how a defibrillator can be life-saving for clubs and businesses. But what happens when a Rotary Club becomes terminal?

Nurse Anne Holland taught us last week how we can help save lives by being prepared.

ROTARY PROJECT OF THE WEEK World’s Greatest Meal Cooked up by two Rotarians on opposite sides of the globe, PDG Mukesh Malhotra in D1140 London UK and Susanne Rea in D9550 Cairns Australia, the meal is a way to unite Rotarians in a common cause while making a difference by raising funds to End Polio. Rotarians, friends of Rotary, Rotaractors, Interactors, Inner Wheel, Probus, anyone and everyone are being asked to hold a meal in the week commencing on Rotary Day 23rd February 2013 and at the same time raise funds for End Polio Now. !

FEBRUARY IS WORLD UNDERSTANDING MONTH

Join us next week at Milano’s in Brighton Beach on Tuesday 25th February when we welcome this year’s Group Study Exchange team from Germany. Hear what these exciting young professionals have planned for their month down under. Bookings via President Alan.

Group Study Exchange from Germany

CHANGE OF DATE Annual Yum Cha & Church Service Due to scheduling conflicts, the date for our annual Yum Cha and Church Service has now been moved to Sunday 6th April. Still contact John Strong to confirm your attendance. It will be a great day with Father Ray!

Glen Huntly Village Festival Glen Huntly Village traders in Glen Huntly Road, near the Glen Huntly Railway Station, are holding a Festival on Saturday 15th March. Our club will have a stall with many other community organisations and businesses present. This will be a great opportunity to showcase what we do and encourage some new members. Please see President Alan if you can join us.

Schoolies Alternative Following our recent visit from members of the Rotary Club of Frankston-Long Island, John Strong is taking this program on board to see what we can develop.
