Darkness was beginning to fall across Haldersvelt as Garamonde and Jewel set out from David’s shop.
Perhaps we’d have gotten out sooner had you not spent so long saying your goodbyes to the old man Jewel, how many farewell embraces does one guy really need?! Still, no time like the present to get moving, we’ve got a long journey back to Lidz before we can call in on Silias. I need to know more about those messages, gotta know what Phoebe plans to do…
“Right then! C’mon Jewel, let’s make tracks! The journey to Lidz is long but with my tricycle we’ll get there soon enough.”
“Umm…I can’t…” Jewel replied, looking away from him nervously.
“You can’t? What do you mean?”
“It’s just…it’s time to go to…work…” Jewel said, her pale cheeks quickly turning pink. “I can’t not work, I’ve gotta make a living, sorry! You go on without me, I don’t know what help I’ll be now anyway. Look around, clients everywhere already!”
She wasn’t wrong. Under the shroud of darkness a whole host of miscreants had spilled out onto the streets, all looking around for drink, drugs and cheap thrills. One or two had already spotted Jewel and were starting to circle her like vultures.
Garamonde shook his head, looking towards the main road out of Haldersvelt. I could go on my own, but she’s been useful and knows a lot about Relham…I’ve got a feeling it’ll be worth having her around come
Lidz. Even with the delay, my tricycle will get us there in no time.
“I’ll tell you what, I’ll meet you after you're done. You’ve been a massive help Jewel and I could really do with you around in Lidz. What do you say?”
Jewel smiled brightly, pleased to feel so useful. “Okay! I use the Crab End Motel with clients, it’s out on Maine Road. I’ll meet you there in about two hours or so, is that alright?”
“Fine. You just take care of yourself, yeah?” Garamonde sighed as he turned to walk away, already hearing some of the bolder men try their luck with her as he left.
Stay safe Jewel, stay safe.
This frozen world lies in ruin, betrayed by all who grace her.
Glaze awaits, to be ours once more…
