Power System Grounding Evaluation from Square D Services Increase Your System’s Reliability and Reduce Downtime Square D Services offers ground system testing and analysis both inside and outside of your facility’s walls. Our engineers will also evaluate the lightning protection system and the application of surge protection devices. We provide a baseline of the condition of your grounding and surge protection systems and recommendations for corrective actions, if needed. Why is proper grounding important? Lack of proper grounding translates into an increased chance of re, data and equipment losses, process anomalies, plant shutdowns and workplace safety hazards to personnel. Facilities that have sensitive electronic equipment are particularly vulnerable to disruptions. Failing to have a properly designed and operating grounding system can cause damage to electrical devices and equipment, resulting in nancial and functional losses. Components of a grounding system are subject to corrosion due to electrochemical, electrolytic or chemical reactions. In fact, if the system has been in place long enough, a ground grid can be completely consumed. UPGRADE BENEFITS • Veries compliance with NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) standards for the type of facility under investigation • Enhances worker safety when the recommendations of the study are  implemented • Meets the requirements of underwriting agencies and insurance companies • Improves reliability and reduces downtime

Power System GroundingEvaluation from Square D Services

Increase Your System’s Reliability and Reduce DowntimeSquare D Services oers ground system testing and analysis both inside

and outside o your acility’s walls. Our engineers will also evaluate the

lightning protection system and the application o surge protection devices.

We provide a baseline o the condition o your grounding and surge protection

systems and recommendations or corrective actions, i needed.

Why is proper grounding important?Lack o proper grounding translates into an increased chance o re, data

and equipment losses, process anomalies, plant shutdowns and workplace

saety hazards to personnel. Facilities that have sensitive electronic equipmen

are particularly vulnerable to disruptions. Failing to have a properly designedand operating grounding system can cause damage to electrical devices

and equipment, resulting in nancial and unctional losses. Components o a

grounding system are subject to corrosion due to electrochemical, electrolytic

or chemical reactions. In act, i the system has been in place long enough,

a ground grid can be completely consumed.

UPGRADE BENEFITS

•VeriescompliancewithNFPA(National

FireProtectionAssociation)standardsfor

the type o acility under investigation

•Enhancesworkersafetywhenthe

recommendations o the study are

Power System Ground Evaluation

from Square D Services (continued)

Square D Services U.S. NetworkComponents o the Grounding EvaluationOur power system engineers will develop a

customer-specic scope o work to address your

areasofconcern.Afullscopeofworkwilltypically

include the evaluation o:

1. Grounding system and the ground grid at the

main switchyard including the switchgear

room. Grid resistance measurement and

resistance between specic points in the grid

(IEEEstandards80and81).Groundcurrent

fow and potential dierences across the

ground grid.

2. Grounding system at the service entrance

equipment, the generators and generatorpanels and automatic transer switches

(whereused).

3. Grounding electrode system and bonding

methods including the structural metal used in

the grounding system.

4. Ground ault protection equipment.

5.Lightningprotectionsystem(NFPA780)and surge protection application.

6. Sensitive equipment grounding requirements (IEEE1100,TheEmeraldBook).

Our customer-specifc report provides:

1. Risk assessment o potential ground ault

conditions, surge events, voltage rises and

circulating currents along with recommendations

to lower the risk o potential damage.

2. Corrective action recommendations to improve

the existing grounding systems to comply withcurrent electrical codes and standards as well

as best practices applicable to the acility.
