YOU'VE COME A LONG WAY, BABY? During the 2012 presidential election cycle, there was much talk about "A War on Women" as we revived a national debate about abortion rights, equal pay and even birth control. For many women, it seemed like re-litigating the last 50 years. But Suzanne Venker (author of "The Flipside of Feminism" which she co-authored with her aunt Phyllis Schlafly) will be joining the Village Square's "Dinner at the Square" series for a unique conversation on where women are almost 100 years after they gained the right to vote. Joining Suzanne - and no stranger to controversy herself - is Staci Fox, President & CEO of Planned Parenthood of North Florida and FAMU's Rosalind Fuse-Hall, who has decades of experience leading young women to adulthood. "You've Come a Long Way, Baby? The Politics of the Feminine" is on Tuesday, January 15th from 5:30 to 7:30pm at St. John's Episcopal Church, downtown. Get more information and make an RSVP online at http://wiki.tothevillagesquare.org/x/MoA5AQ call 590-6646 or email [email protected] RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE NEEDS DEDICATED VOLUNTEERS Volunteers are needed in the Ronald McDonald Family Room at Capital Regional Medical Center. The RMFR is located on the Pediatric Floor and serves local families with hospitalized children. The Ronald McDonald Family Room is a special place of refuge where families can escape the hospital atmosphere while being only a moment away from their child's bedside. It will provide a private, relaxing space for family members and patients as they endure a stressful life experience and will be a welcomed respite from the hospital environment. The Family Room will be open to anyone with a child in the hospital, including those who live in the local area, as well as families who have traveled long distances and may be staying at the Ronald McDonald House. As an extension of the Ronald McDonald House of Tallahassee, the Family Room at CRMC is designed to offer guests comforts and conveniences to allow the family to focus on the care of their child. Visitors to the Family Room will be greeted by volunteers who offer snacks, smiles, entertainment and a listening ear. Volunteers are needed to serve in the Family Room in this host/hostess role. The room must be manned at all times (most likely 9 am to 6 pm, 7 days a week) by RMHC Volunteers in order for it to remain open and available to the patients and families. If you are interested or would like more information, contact Tammy D. Hartsfield at [email protected].
