Testimonials

“Remember all those people who you wondered, what happened to them? See them and ask them. On campus, we’re all 21 again, and the world is a bright shining future.” —Class of 1959 Hobart Graduate

“Whatever reasons you think you shouldn’t go won’t be important once you are there. It is fun, satisfying and exciting to reconnect with friends and classmates. Totally worth it!” —Class of 1960 William Smith Graduate

“I always seem to have a reason why NOT to go, but I go, and I am ALWAYS happy that I did. Life is short...getting shorter! I enjoy being with people with whom I grew in so many different ways...very heart-warming to me.” —Class of 1955 William Smith Graduate

Just the FactsREUNION HEADQUARTERS – Reunion Headquarters will be at the Scandling Campus Center and will be open from 1-9 p.m. on Thursday; 8 a.m. until midnight on Friday; from 7:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Saturday; and from 8 a.m. until noon on Sunday. When you arrive on campus, go directly to the Scandling Campus Center to check in and pick up updated schedules, event tickets and housing information. Reunion Headquarters is where you will find all the information you need for the weekend, including updated “arrival screens” of those who have registered, message boards and more.

WHERE TO STAY – We have room for everyone right here on campus in Comstock Hall. What better way to slip back in time than to spend a couple of nights in a residence hall with your family and friends?

Staying in the dorms is convenient and economical, but it is not luxurious! Dorm rooms are equipped with the basics – twin beds, bureaus, sheets, a blanket, small towels and soap. You may want to pack an alarm clock, additional towels, an extra blanket, a fan and anything else you may need to be more comfortable. June weather in Geneva can be hot, sunny, cold and/or rainy! Comstock will have air conditioning units, but if you are sensitive to heat or have other health-related needs, we encourage you to consider staying at a local hotel, a bed and breakfast, or renting a house. A list of accommodations can be found on the Reunion website (www.hws.edu/reunion).

SPECIAL NEEDS – Most campus buildings are handicapped accessible. If you or a member of your family has special health or dietary needs, please indicate this when you complete your registration form so that we may determine how to make your visit most enjoyable.

WHAT TO WEAR – Think casual and think college! Dig out those Hobart or William Smith beanies, sweatshirts, T-shirts, caps, etc. In general, Reunion is a casual weekend though the Saturday dinner will be more festive. Remember that the weather in June can range from 50 to 95 degrees – pack and dress accordingly. Even if the forecast is for balmy weather, we suggest packing a jacket or sweatshirt as evenings on the Quad can get chilly.

TRANSPORTATION and PARKING – The Syracuse, Rochester and Ithaca airports are each about an hour drive from campus. Car service to and from the Syracuse and Rochester airports is available for a fee from Finger Lakes Limousine at (315) 789-7272. Please contact them directly to arrange your transportation to campus. Shuttle buses and golf carts will be circulating on campus throughout the weekend to transport you to events and residence halls. If you feel that you need a car for your time here, please reserve one at the airport. While on campus, you may park in any campus parking lot. Handicapped parking is available at all campus locations.

REGISTRATION FEE – The Reunion Registration Fee helps to offset the cost of a number of things throughout the weekend – entertainment, fireworks, receptions, refreshments (excluding alcohol), as well as many other extras. You’ll note on the Registration Form that there are “special deals” for the 50th PLUS Classes. Most activities listed on the schedule of events are included at no additional cost, unless otherwise noted. If there is an additional fee, in most cases it covers admission to an event and / or transportation.

Celebrate 25 Years of The Wheeler SocietySaturday, June 6, 2015

Join President Mark D. Gearan for a cocktail reception to celebrate 25 years of The Wheeler Society.

5:30 p.m.

Schuyler Skaats Wheeler Sc.D. 1988 – inventor, intellectual and entrepreneur – and his wife Amy Sutton Wheeler established a bequest that was realized nearly 100 years later and used in the 1990s to renovate Gulick Hall. This gift, and the people who made it possible, serve as the inspiration for the Colleges’ planned giving society, The Wheeler Society.

For 25 years, the Colleges have received planned gifts from more than 1,000 alumni, alumnae, parents and friends who created their own legacy and have provided for the Colleges’ future. On Saturday, June 6 we will celebrate the impact these thoughtful people make on Hobart and William Smith.

For more information about the celebration or how you can make a difference through The Wheeler Society, please contact Leila Rice, associate vice president of advancement, at [email protected] or 315-781-3545.

Painstaking craftsmanship creates illusion which talent turns into reality. These are evocative and rewarding artworks well worth the exclamation “spectacular.” The pleasure we receive from looking at this work is a matter of ideas about our world as well as formal aesthetic delight. Jones was born in Saratoga Springs, New York in 1950. He received a bachelor’s degree from Hobart and a master of fine arts degree from Brooklyn College. He has studied at the Rijks Museum School in Amsterdam, the Art Students League in New York and the San Francisco Art Institute. He has taught at Hobart and William Smith for more than 20 years. His work has been widely exhibited in museums and commercial galleries throughout the United States, Europe and Asia.
