IntroductionHave you ever wondered who invented the first
laptop, and when the laptop was invented? Heres
your chance to learn about the first laptop, and the
people that made it. Before the laptop was in-vented, you had to use computers that were the size
of rooms, not only were they big, they weighed up
to 27 tons and they were only for the government to
use. But now since we have laptops we can carry
them around, and easily use them anywhere wewant as long as we have it with us.
Adam Osborne
In Bangkok,Thailand 1939, AdamOsborne was born.
He was the son ofBritish parents. Atthe age of 11 his fam-ily moved to the UKwhere he graduatedin 1961 from the Uni-
versity of Birmingham. In 1980, Adamfounded the Osborne Computer Corpora-tion with Lee Felsenstein. In 1981, he de-signed a portable computer. Lee Felsen-stein and Adam built this computer to-gether, this is the first laptop ever to bemade. They named this laptop the Os-borne 1, after Adam Osborne. He designedthis laptops to be able to fit under an air-plane seat. Adam and the Osborne Com-puter Corporation only made 3 laptops, the Osborne 1, the Osborne Executive, and the Osborne Vixen before the Os-borne Computer Corporation was bank-rupt. Adam Osborne died on March 18,2003 in Kodaikanal, India, because of abrain problem that caused him to have
minor strokes. He was 64 years old whenhe died.
Osborne Computer CorporationFounded in 1980 by Adam Os-
borne, the Osborne Computer Cor-
poration is the company that pro-
duced the first laptop, the Osborne 1 in 1981. The Osborne Computer
Corporation had created 3 usable laptops, the Osborne 1 which is the first
laptop ever to be made, the Osborne Executive which is like the Osborne
1, but has a larger memory space. And the Osborne Vixen which is the
third, and the last laptop the Osborne Computer Corporation made. The
Osborne Computer Corporation was bankrupt in 1985 after 5 years of de-
signing, and creating new laptops.

Osborne 1Designed by Adam Os-
borne, and built by Adam
Osborne and Lee Felsen-
stein in year 1981. The Os-borne 1 is the first laptop
that was made. The Os-
borne 1 is shaped like a
suitcase, and is designed so it can fit under an airplane seat. It
weighs about 24.5 pounds, and has a 64kb memory space. The Os-borne 1 has a 5 inch screen, that you can only see 52 characters in
each row. For each Osborne 1 the price was $1,795. The Osborne 1
was very successful the Osborne Computer Corporation sold about
10,000 Osborne 1s per month!
An Osborne 1
Bankrupt! The reason the Osborne Computer Corpora-
tion was bankrupt is because other companies
like the Apple Company, and the Kaypro Com-
pany were releasing computers with largerscreens, and a larger memory space. Another rea-
son why the Osborne Computer Corporation was
bankrupt is because Adam Osborne told report-
ers about the Osborne Executive, and the Os-
borne Vixen when they were not even finished socustomers stopped buying Osborne 1s and the
company lost a lot of money. This was a big mis-
take.
Laptops TodayNow with laptops
that are light, and has a
large memory space.
Laptops today can only
weigh 3 pounds which
makes it a lot easier to
carry compared to the Osborne 1. The more memory space
available in your computer the more things you can save in it,
laptops today have large amount of memory space. If you com-pare the laptops we have now to the Osborne 1s ours is way
lighter, and better.

My Opinion
The laptop is very important to me, because I
usually use it every day for homework or for enter-
tainment. To me the laptop is a very good thing to
have with me, because you can just turn it on, and
use it the way you want to. The laptop is also a
really good tool, you can go on the internet to get
all kinds information. The laptop is the best tool
you can have!
