1993 TREASURER'S REPORT

Pamela Thompson, IAML Treasurer

1993 Income

All national branches but three submitted payments within the year. The total income for 1993 was DM 97,167.00, approximately 12% less than was projected in the 1993 budget. It is expected that late 1993 payments already received, together with those anticipated in 1994 will amount to over DM 12,000.00 which will bring income closer to target. In addition to the above sum, donations of DM

3,266.00 were received for the outreach fund. Bank interest appears to be exceptionally low in 1993, but is expected to

improve substantially in the long term as funds are invested in a high-interest offshore account which credits interest in May.

1993 Expenditures

Expenditures totaled DM 109,856.00, some 13% less than estimated, due in the main to some payments being held over to 1994. These are shown within the 1994 estimates.

Office expenses remained extremely low and no new brochures were printed.

Expenditures shown for Fontes Artis Musicae include 1992/3 & 4 (Bärenreiter) and 1993/1-3 (A-R Editions), as well as a reprint of 1993/1. As anticipated, production costs per volume are now substantially lower.

1993 Summary

Expenditure exceeded income by DM 12,689.00. This figure is distorted by payments for five issues of Fontes Artis Musicae, but also by additional expendi ture of DM 3,775.00 held over until 1994.

At the end of 1993, the association had DM 81,716.00 in its accounts, plus DM

3,266.00 in outreach donations which are much appreciated.

Conclusion

The Association's finances are fairly healthy and should become less unpredictable as new payment arrangements and new banking arrangements settle down and new national branches become fully operational. It is expected that by 1995, most income will be received and most expenditures paid in the year to which they relate. While late payments in 1994 will probably result in a further deficit at the end of 1994, the Association should be able to expect a much smaller deficit in

1995. If recruitment can be maintained at current healthy levels, a more optimistic report may be possible next year. Otherwise, the Association will have to take

steps to balance its annual income and expenditure to maintain reserves com mensurate with the demands of its activities.

The treasurer would like to thank all those in the national branches for their work in bringing our records and finances up to date and is grateful to the other officers of the Association for their assistance in this first full year of her

treasurership.
