Washington 1 No. 7 Florida 2 Aug. 17, 2018 Donald R. Dizney Stadium Gainesville, Fla. GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Two second-half goals gave the University of Florida soccer team a season-opening 2-1 win over Washington Friday evening at the Donald R. Dizney Stadium. Last year when the two teams met in Seattle, the Huskies provided the only goal in the first two minutes and took the 1-0 win. Tonight, the Huskies again struck first off a play that began with a corner kick. Ruby Hellstrom scored from eight yards in the 35th minute. With UF coaching staff’s halftime message to use the width of the field on their minds, the Gators did exactly that on Sammie Betters’ tying goal in the 54th minute. The ball started on the left side with senior Sarah Troccoli and moved to the middle of the field to freshman Cassidy Lindley. She saw Betters heading down the right side of the box, playing a ball for Betters to catch. When Betters did catch up to the ball, she took a touch before blasting a 16-yard shot to the upper slot. The game-winning goal came when sophomore Madison Alexander pressured a touch from Washington’s goalkeeper to UW centerback Jessica Udovich. The ball popped free in the box. Alexander was the first to reach it, scoring from 10 yards on the empty goal. Worth Noting

Florida is now 18-4-2 all-time in season openers and 13-1-1 when the season starts in Gainesville.

Better’s goal was the second of her career and first since her 2016 season was shortened with a knee injury.

Alexander’s score was her fourth Gator goal, with all coming in Florida’s last 15 matches. This was Florida’s second consecutive match at Dizney Stadium versus a Pac-12 opponent.

Florida closed last season with a 1-0 double-overtime win versus Washington State in NCAA Sweet 16 play. Tonight, Florida opened the 2018 season versus the Pac-12’s other program from The Evergreen State.

Records: Florida: 1-0-0, 0-0 SEC Washington: 0-1-0, 0-0 Pac-12 What the Gators Said: What was the halftime talk? “Use the width. There were so many people in the middle of the field. It was just very packed, so we just had to get the ball out wide. The first goal came from a ball out wide and the second originated from out wide too. I think we just have to trust ourselves that we can serve some quality balls in the box and cause some chaos.” – Florida Head Coach Becky Burleigh What does it say about your team to come back like they did and to never give up? “I think this is an experienced group so they knew what to do. We were sitting in the locker room at halftime and nobody was down about being down one nothing. It was a matter of executing a little bit better. We were disappointed to give up a goal on a set piece. That was something we worked on but we will learn from that. It is game one.” - Florida Head Coach Becky Burleigh What did you see from the team tonight? “For the first game of the season, this was a really good show as far as grit goes. It might not have gone our way in the beginning but it is really cool that in this early of the season we proved that we can come back from something like that. I am really proud of us and thought that we did a really great job.” – junior defender Sammie Betters Can you talk about tying up the game? “I want to do whatever I can for the team so today it was scoring, tomorrow might be assisting, the next day might be cheering from the sideline. Whatever I can do to help my team, I’m there to do. It was really cool I got to score today but next time it could be Maddie or Mel or anyone else so I’m just happy that we’re doing well.” – junior defender Sammie Betters What did you see on your goal? “The net. I saw we had players in the box but the goalie was kind of misplaced to the left so I went for it.” – junior defender Sammie Betters What happened on your goal? “I was pressing late in the game and everyone was a bit fatigued. Their goalie and centerback kind of had a little mix up and the ball came out. I saw an open goal so I slid it in. “I was very excited. It is cool to see that we can come back from being down. At halftime we knew we were not losing this game and we kept fighting until the very last minute.” – sophomore midfielder Madison Alexander Washington (0-1-0, 0-0-0 Pac-12) at No. 7 Florida (1-0-0, SEC 0-0-0) Stadium: Donald R. Solis’ shot was blocked and Cassidy Lindley touched the deflection out wide to Melanie Monteagudo. She took a touch toward goal before sending a left-footed strike to the far corner. Madison Alexander turned in her second goal of the weekend in the 35th minute. She tapped in the ball from eight yards off the assists from seniors Lais Araujo and Sarah Troccoli. Lindley scored her first collegiate goal within the opening minute of the second half. The freshman caught up with Troccoli’s through ball down the middle of the field to score from six yards. Sammie Betters headed in the deep cross from Lindley in the 63rd minute for Florida’s fourth goal. It was Betters’ second goal of the weekend as she opened Florida’s scoring in Friday’s 2-1 win versus Washington. FAU broke up the shutout in the 52nd minute when Tiril Haga scored from five yards off the deflection of Pernille Velta’s shot. Ebba Blomqvist headed in Emma Jacobs free kick in the 78th minute to finish scoring for the match. Worth Noting

That was career goal No. 10 for Monteagudo. She is the 39th player in UF’s 24 seasons with 10 or more career goals.

Through just two matches, Betters set her season-high goals total with two. She also scored one goal in her injury-shortened freshman season in 2016.

Alexander scores a goal in consecutive matches for the first time. Her five career goals have come in Florida’s last 16 matches.

Lindley added two assists to go along with her first Gator goal. She also assisted on Florida’s game-winning goal in Friday’s 2-1 win versus Washington.

Susi Espinoza’s seven saves tonight sets her career high. Her previous high (5) came last season in Florida’s 3-2 win versus No. 1 Stanford.

Records: Florida: 2-0-0, 0-0 SEC Florida Atlantic: 0-2-0, 0-0 C-USA What the Gators Said: First impressions of second game, second win? “Our goal was to win and to shut them out so we accomplished one of those. Credit to FAU to show some resilience. Both of those goals were from set pieces so we have a focus for the upcoming week.” – Florida Head Coach Becky Burleigh Positives you saw today? “We have the ability to score some pretty goals. Their keeper made a SportsCenter top 10 save so I cannot be too angry about that. We have the ability but we have to do a much better job defensively. There was some great play leading up to the goals but we just have to find our identity both offensively and defensively.” – Florida Head Coach Becky Burleigh Talk about the team’s performance and what went well. “We came out strong and scored pretty early and also kept our composure with the goal. Once we have the lead, we have to find a way to keep it and defend well against set pieces. Once that comes together I think we will be good.” – senior midfielder Melanie Monteagudo What happened on your goal? “They [coaches] kept stressing to stay wide and to keep the width all pregame so that is what I did. Cassidy gave me a great ball and I took it to the post.” – senior midfielder Melanie Monteagudo You scored your first goal as a Gator. What did you see on the play? “It was definitely exciting to get my first goal. My team has really pushed me in the past few weeks. Mich [Sarah Troccoli] got the ball in, I saw a gap so I made the run in. I saw Madi [Alexander] on the backside so if I did not have the angle then I knew I could cross to her but I saw the back corner and finished with the outside of my foot. “I’ve been dreaming for this goal since I first committed here.” – freshman forward Cassidy Lindley Talk about your performance – you had a career-high seven saves. “It was a Sunday game so usually the team is tired so I was just trying to stay focused. It was hot so I just had to do whatever I could to stay in the game and help my team win.” – junior goalkeeper Susi Espinoza Preseason Conference Votes: Florida took third in the 2017 SEC regular-season standings. Ohio State 1 No. 5 Florida 0 Aug. 24, 2018 Donald R. Dizney Stadium Gainesville, Fla. GAINESVILLE, Fla. – No. 5 Gator soccer lost 1-0 to Ohio State Friday evening at the Donald R. Dizney Stadium. The two teams have met only twice. The Buckeyes also won the first meeting, 1-0, when the two teams met in Columbus for the second match of the 2015 season. Friday’s scoring: Ohio State scored its first goal of the season in the 56th minute. Kayla Fischer brought the ball through the Florida half. About midway into the box, Fischer’s left-footed shot scored at the far corner. The Buckeyes looked to have a goal in the opening half, but junior Sammie Betters was at the post to clear Fischer’s first shot of the match in the 18th minute. The Gators had chances, registering 13 shots for the match. But the Buckeyes were able to get the needed blocks, stops or deflections. Records: Florida: 2-1-0, 0-0 SEC Ohio State: 1-2-0, 0-0 Big Ten What the Gators Said: What were some keys tonight? “We had a lot of really good looks. I think where the game was won and lost was in the midfield. We have to do a little better job there, pressing them a little harder. Putting on a little more defensive pressure. Because when we did that, our offense was generated from that.” –Florida Head Coach Becky Burleigh What are you going to work on in practice? “We always work on finishing. It’s a game of inches sometimes. Credit to Ohio State for blocking some shots, for having some deflections. They did a good job of keeping the ball out of the net. “One game isn’t going to define us. We just have to learn and move on.” – Florida Head Coach Becky Burleigh Tough game, talk about how they battled. “It’s never easy to lose, we were just talking about that. But it’s kind of like what’s next is our response. Obviously that was a tough game and they were the better team tonight. Obviously you hope to play your best every time, sometimes that doesn’t happen. So I think we just have to learn from that.” – junior defender Parker Roberts On going on the road for the first time: “I think playing in a new atmosphere; it will toughen us up too. We don’t always get to play at home so I think it will be good to see a new environment.” – junior defender Parker Roberts On a tough loss tonight: “They are a good team, obviously. Obviously, we hope our passing is a lot better. But moving forward we now know what to fix.” – senior defender Rachelle Smith It came down to the end, can you talk about what made the difference. “It was a tough one, all credit to Ohio State. Every time we play them its trouble. It was a tough one. We both battled to the end. I think we kind of pulled it together in the second half, but just couldn’t get that final pass, that final finish.” – senior midfielder Sarah Troccoli Preseason Conference Votes: Florida took third in the 2017 SEC regular-season standings. No. 5 Florida 0 Oklahoma State 1 2OT Aug. 26, 2018 Neal Patterson Stadium Stillwater, Okla. STILLWATER, Okla. – The positive is Florida soccer has no other teams remaining on the schedule with “OSU” initials. The No. 5 Gator soccer team dropped its second 1-0 decision of the weekend, losing in double overtime Sunday afternoon at Oklahoma State’s Neal Patterson Stadium. In Friday’s action at the Donald R. Dizney Stadium, Florida lost 1-0 to Ohio State. This weekend started a stretch of seven consecutive Gator opponents that advanced to 2017 NCAA Tournament play. Sunday’s Score: The golden goal came when Marlo Zoeller received the ball from Julia Lenhardt deep in Florida’s half. She took a touch as she moved through the center of the box and then scored on a 12-yard right footed strike to the far post. The Gators had opportunities Sunday, albeit not plentiful. One of the better looks came with 10 minutes remaining in regulation. On one of Florida’s nine corner kicks for the day, senior Sarah Troccoli’s header in the center of the goal was tipped over by OSU goalkeeper Hannah Warner for another corner kick. Records: Florida: 2-2-0, 0-0 SEC Oklahoma State: 3-0, 0-0 Big 12 Florida now leads the all-time series with Oklahoma State 4-1. What the Becky Burleigh Said: What did you take from today’s result? “It was tough. We were trying to bounce back and for very long, long stretches of that game we had the play. But ultimately, we didn’t really create many offensive opportunities out of that possession. That needs to change. “I told the team afterward, if you want to be resilient, you’ve got to have adversity. We’ve certainly have had our share of it. We have two big games next weekend so there’s no time to feel sorry for ourselves. Now it is the time to find answers.” –Florida Head Coach Becky Burleigh Preseason Conference Votes: Florida took third in the 2017 SEC regular-season standings. No. 2 UCLA 0 No. 22 Florida 0 2OT Aug. 31, 2018 Donald R. Dizney Stadium Gainesville, Fla. GAINESVILLE, Fla. – No. 22 Florida soccer and 2017 NCAA runner-up and current No. 2 UCLA played to a scoreless tie on a humid evening Friday at the Donald R. Dizney Stadium. The match got off to a late start as an accident on I-75 delayed two of the match officials. The double overtime match added to the late evening. To Note:

Senior goalkeeper Kaylan Marckese turned in a collegiate-high eight saves Friday. Her previous high of six saves was turned in seven times.

UCLA outshot the Gators 17-5 Friday. Florida’s most dangerous opportunity came with 13 minutes remaining in the second half. Sarah Troccoli’s ball down the middle of the box found Cassidy Lindley. She moved toward goal but her shot was just wide of the near post.

Lais Araujo also had a great look in the 53rd minute. Her 20-yard curler just about caught the upper far post corner.

Florida is now 4-4-1 all-time versus a team ranked No. 2 in the United Soccer Coaches poll. This is the first time UF has faced the No. 2 team in Gainesville.

The last time Florida played consecutive overtime matches also included UCLA. In 2016 early season action, Florida lost at Stanford 1-0 in overtime and won 4-3 OT at UCLA.

With the shutout, Marckese moves closer to Florida’s career shutouts record (27: Taylor Burke and Katie Fraine). Tonight’s shutout was the 23rd for Marckese.

What the Gators Said: Opening Statement: “We just wanted to come out and really battle and show some improvement from last weekend, and I think we definitely did that. The level of intensity of what we did was high. I really thought we were going to come on the counter and sneak one in against them. Credit to UCLA for keeping us out of the net.” – Florida Head Coach Becky Burleigh On Kaylan Marckese’s performance tonight: “She made some good saves. I think that her distribution is a big part of what we do. I think it’s good to see her stepping up in these moments. And for her to get a shutout, it’s the first shutout we’ve had this season – and against the number two team in the nation.” - – Florida Head Coach Becky Burleigh On the match ending in a tie: “Looking at our past weekend, we struggled a lot. We weren’t playing the way we’re capable of playing. So even we didn’t get the win today, we’re really happy with the way we improved as a team and how we came together. It was a battle the whole time. Props to UCLA, too. They gave a really hard fight. I think we are happy with our own progress, but obviously it’s not the result we wanted.” – senior captain Sarah Troccoli On UCLA’s offense: “They were good. They are really good individually. One on one trying to find their chances. I tried to save them all. They didn’t let up. They brought it but I’m proud of our team, especially our defense. They held it down out there.” – senior goalkeeper Kaylan Marckese On the game ending in a tie: “It’s better than a loss. Obviously we want the win, but it will come. The goals will come.” – senior goalkeeper Kaylan Marckese NCAA Title Coaches: Leading the teams Friday were the first two women to lead their team to a NCAA title. Florida’s Becky Burleigh was the first in 1998 and UCLA’s Amanda Cromwell became the second in 2013. In the 36-year history of NCAA Division I soccer, three women have coached the national title team (third is Penn State’s Ericha Dambach/2015). Preseason Conference Votes: Florida took third in the 2017 SEC regular-season standings. UCLA was second in the 2017 Pac-12 standings. No. 7 Southern Cal 3 No. 22 Florida 0 Sept. 2, 2018 Donald R. Dizney Stadium Gainesville, Fla. GAINESVILLE, Fla. – No. 7 Southern California soccer scored three goals in a 16-minute second-half span to shutout No. 22 Florida 3-0 Sunday at the Donald R. Dizney Stadium. Sunday’s Scoring: After a scoreless opening half, Leah Pruitt hit the match’s first goal in the 66th minute. She brought the ball deep down the right of Florida’s box. Her sharply angled 20-yard shot curved in to score at the far post corner. In the 80th minute, Savannah DeMelo played a ball through the box that Penelope Hocking ran down. Her shot to the far corner scored from six yards. Then in the 82nd minute, DeMelo got a goal of her own. She won the ball at the top of the six-yard box to score her third goal of the season. To Note:

Sunday’s result marked the fourth consecutive match Florida was shutout. The Gators last scored in the 4-2 win versus Florida Atlantic on Aug. 19.

Today’s result extends Florida’s scoreless streak to 427 minutes. The previous record of 315 scoreless minutes came in the 1995 season.

This weekend began a three-match stretch versus top-10 teams. Florida played No. 2 UCLA to a scoreless tie on Friday and lost 3-0 to No. 7 Southern Cal today. On Friday, Sept. 7, the Gators play at No. 4 Florida State.

What the Gators Said: On tonight’s match: “I thought for the first 60 minutes it was pretty decent. I thought it was tough giving up the goal that we gave up. We’ve all played soccer long enough to know that’s a cross slash shot. They all count. Credit Southern Cal. I think we had a little lapse in resilience at that point. I think that first goal really got us down. “But in the end we are going to control the controllables. And the controllable for us are continuing to give effort. We have a lot of really good pieces; we just have to put more of them together at different times. “I think it’s great to see people coming off the bench and bringing the big contributions. I think that’s only going to continue to grow. It’s all helping us in the big picture. So for us right now, it’s controlling the controllables and we’re continuing to fight until the end, which I think we did.” – Florida Head Coach Becky Burleigh On getting the offense back on track: “The last two games we’ve played we’ve had pretty strong focus on keeping defensively compact. And we were hoping to counter out. “I’m not disappointed with our ability to keep the ball. If you look at the UCLA game, we actually hit our offensive bench marks, which is 500 passes, 80 percent. Where we fell short in the UCLA game not enough in penalty area. We talked about that before this game, trying to get the ball in dangerous places more often. It’s going to take a gamble; it’s going to take some risks. This team is capable of doing that.” – Florida Head Coach Becky Burleigh On tonight’s match: “They are an amazing team. Their first goal was unbelievable - I don’t even know how they did that. Second goal we weren’t on our toes. Third goal that was just on us. “We gave it our all, we gave a lot of effort. Obviously, we didn’t show that. We definitely showed a little more and that’s something we need to work on as a team. We’re definitely going to do better next game.” – senior defender Rachelle Smith On the team meeting after USC’s third goal: “Pretty much when we have that, that’s kind of like a reset for us. We’re like ‘Let’s get back to what we play and how we play and take control of the game’. And settle down. Do the basics, what we know. Like checking your shoulders and stuff like that. We just need to try harder and that’s kind of what we said. We’re trying our hardest, but we’re not doing the most. The last five to six minutes, we gave it our all.” – senior defender Rachelle Smith Preseason Conference Votes: Florida took third in the 2017 SEC regular-season standings. USC was third in the 2017 Pac-12 standings. Florida – The SEC coaches picked the Gators to win the 2018 Southeastern Conference title. USC – The Trojans are picked to finish third in the Pac-12. RV Florida 0 No. 3 Florida State 1 Sept. 8, 2018 Seminole Soccer Complex Tallahassee, Fla. TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Fresh from Florida Sunshine Showdown was decided in the final minutes, with No. 3 Florida State taking a 1-0 win over Florida Friday evening at the Seminole Soccer Complex. Friday’s Match: It was a gritty performance by the Gators.

o Florida was without All-Southeastern Conference performer Parker Roberts. She remained back in Gainesville after undergoing surgery Friday morning on a foot fracture.

o The Gators played a man-down for the final 23 minutes after senior Laís Araujo received her second yellow card

o All-SEC senior defender Rachelle Smith left the field with a left leg injury with 18 minutes remaining in the second half.

Player gone. Player down. Player injured. None of that showed in the Gators’ performance on the field. The Gators and Seminoles battled the entire evening. The Seminoles outshot the Gators 23-3, with the Gators getting great looks for its final two shots. On a counter attack, Araujo’s shot from 12 yards was stopped by FSU goalkeeper Brooke Bollinger. Later in the second half, Briana Solis’ 16 yard curling shot nearly caught the upper corner. When it looked like it would be overtime for the second consecutive Friday for both teams, FSU’s Deyna Castellano took a hard 24-yard shot. Kristen McFarland’s left-footed touch on the deflection scored from six yards in the 88th minute. Delays Again Friday’s match was the first between the two teams in Tallahassee since 2014 as Hurricane Hermine forced the cancellation of the 2016 meeting. Last season’s meeting in Gainesville was delayed a bit over a month due to Hurricane Irma. Although not nearly as lengthy as the past two hurricane delays, Friday’s weather did cause a delay. The teams were pulled from the field after seven minutes of second half play due to lightning in the area. Play resumed after a 47-minute delay. To Note:

Friday’s result was the fifth consecutive match Florida was shutout. The Gators last scored in the 4-2 win versus Florida Atlantic on Aug. 19.

Today’s result extends Florida’s scoreless streak to 517 minutes. The previous record of 315 scoreless minutes came in the 1995 season.

Tonight’s match ended a three-game stretch versus top-10 teams. Last Friday, Florida played then No. 2 UCLA to a scoreless tie and lost 3-0 to then No. 7 Southern Cal on Sunday. Today, the Gators dropped a 1-0 decision at No. 3 Florida State.

A single goal decided nine of the last 12 meetings between UF and FSU.

It’s a Draw: Tonight’s crowd of 3,379 stands No. 3 on Florida State soccer’s top attendance lists. Four of the top five crowds in Seminole Soccer history are against the Gators. It was heartbreaking as so much was stacked against us. Whether it was playing with 10 people, losing Rachelle [Smith] – you name it. We had chances to put one away. I really thought we were going to steal [a win] one. “Credit Florida State for finding the back of the net. They have a really good team. They are ranked No. 3 right now, but in my mind, they are the best team in the country. “Our ability to battle with that was quite a performance. We have to trust that the universe will reward us at some point.” – Florida Head Coach Becky Burleigh RV Florida (2-4-1, 0-0 SEC) at No. 3 Florida State (6-0-1, 0-0 ACC) Seminole Soccer Complex (3,379) Weather: 82 degrees, winds ENE 5 mph, 73% humidity

The match was played again Monday from the beginning as per NCAA rules and Sunday’s first-half results were not retained. UCF held a 3-0 lead Sunday at halftime off goals from Stefanie Sanders, Samantha Chung and Kristen Scott. Sunday’s match needed to reach 70 minutes for officials to rule it complete. The Knights scored twice in just over a two-minute second half span. Sorree scored her second goal of the day from 10 yards off the assist from Stefanie Sanders in the 70th minute. This was UCF’s first win since defeating UF in 2011 NCAA First Round play. Florida leads the series 14-4-1.

What Becky Burleigh Said: On today’s match: “It was a difficult day. Credit UCF – they put a lot of pressure on us and played a lot of long balls we needed to track. To be honest, I feel this team [UF] is giving all they can right now. We are a little bit emotionally drained with all that has gone on [with injuries]. Physically, we are asking a lot of them but the good news is we can draw a line after this part of the season and start fresh on Sunday. “We appreciate the opportunity to get this game in. The play started just wide of the VU box with Melanie Monteagudo’s pass finding Madison Alexander at the top of the box. Alexander touched the ball up to Deanne Rose above the VU box. Vanderbilt got the game-winner in the 88th minute. The play started with a corner kick. Caroline Saltmarsh sent the clearance ahead to Paola Ellis who put it in from five yards. To Note:

Sunday’s result was Vanderbilt’s first win over Florida since the Commodores claimed a 2-0 win on Sept. 14, 1997. Between VU’s 1997 regular-season win and today, VU had made 10 winless trips to Gainesville.

Florida is now 18-5-1 in SEC openers. The last Gator loss in a season opener came in 2015 (2-1 to Texas A&M)

Araujo’s goal ends Florida’s scoreless streak at 677 minutes and 14 seconds. The previous record of 315 scoreless minutes came in the 1995 season.

Lightning in the area delayed the start of today’s match by just over an hour. What the Gators Said: On today’s match: “It was a tough ending, especially on set pieces. We have spent a lot time defending set pieces; there was bit of a lapse there. Credit to Vanderbilt, they took advantage of it. “It was nice putting a goal in the back of net. Hopefully that gives us some confidence moving forward.” – Florida Head Coach Becky Burleigh Do you think today was a step in the right direction for the team? “When you have not scored a goal in how many games it has been, and you score a goal, I think it’s a step in the right direction. We have been dealt the hand we have dealt, and it is what is. We are going to keep getting up and fighting. I am not quitting on this team and I do not expect any of our players to either.” – Florida Head Coach Becky Burleigh On the team’s outlook: “Obviously we are disappointed conceding so late in the game, but we are all positive to carry on working hard together. We got the goal now so, moving forward; we have got goals in us and next game we’re going to work to win” – freshman defender Georgia Eaton-Collins On today’s match: “We are working hard. We are doing our best every game and every practice. We keep on going hard; we are positive and we know what is coming. We are getting more shots now; we have to keep on trying and trying. The fans are getting more excited. It’s going to come. We are staying positive and we hope next game we are going to win” – senior midfielder Laís Araujo 2018 Records: Florida: 2-6-1, 0-1 SEC Vanderbilt: 8-1, 1-0 SEC Series Record: Florida leads 26-3-1. We were starting have some good combinations and think the team felt good, I think the team’s ability to stay positive throughout all the adversity we’ve had played a big role in winning tonight. LSU 1 Florida 4 Sept. 23, 2018 Donald R. Dizney Stadium Gainesville, Fla. GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida soccer claimed a 4-1 comeback win over Louisiana State Sunday afternoon at the Donald R. Dizney Stadium. The Gators tied the match late in the opening half. Three unanswered second-half goals gave UF the final margin. Sunday’s Scoring: LSU took advantage of their second scoring opportunity in the 23rd minute when Shannon Cooke sent a sharp pass to Lindsey Eaton just above the six-yard box. Eaton evaded her defender and scored from eight yards on a right-footed shot. Senior Alyssa Howell gave the Gators a lift with her score shortly before halftime. Carina Baltrip-Reyes brought the ball through the Tiger half. Nearing the LSU defensive third, Baltrip-Reyes sent the ball ahead to Cassidy Lindley at the top center of the box. She immediately sent the ball into space down the center of the goal. Howell ran the ball down and just beat the on-coming LSU goalkeeper to score at 42:33. Florida took the lead for good early in the second half. The play started when Lindley sent the ball out wide to Mayra Pelayo. She bought the ball to above the corner of the box and played it into space for Briana Solis making an angled run through the box. Solis took a touch toward end line and her centering pass was touched in to the upper netting by the right foot of Lais Araujo from four yards in the 50th minute. The Gators’ third goal came in the 61st minute. It started with some passing back and forth between Solis and Araujo as Solis moved toward goal. From the top of the box, Araujo’s angled ball found Madison Alexander making a run. Alexander’s one-touch from six yards scored at the far post. The final goal came off an Araujo corner kick. Courtney Douglas leaped and headed in her first collegiate goal from six yards in the 84th minute. Quick Hits:

Since the start of Southeastern Conference play, Araujo has scored five goals in three matches – one vs. Vanderbilt and LSU, three at Kentucky.

It was a double first for Douglas. Her first collegiate goal came on her first collegiate shot. Howell first collegiate goal came Thursday in Lexington with less than a minute remaining in

the opening half. Today, she scored again – this time in the 43rd minute. Alexander’s goal Sunday is her fourth of 2018, setting her collegiate season high goals total. Baltrip-Reyes’ assist on Howell’s goal gives her the first collegiate point of her career. Baltrip-

Reyes played at Florida International for the 2016 season and sat out the 2017 campaign with a knee injury. She transferred to Florida in the spring of 2018.

The four goals was the most surrendered by the Tigers this season. The previous high came in a 3-0 loss at then No. 4 Texas A&M to open SEC play.

Hear from the Gators: On what has clicked in the last couple of games for the team… “I really think a big part of it is just our continued persistence at practice. The schedule we that we played in non-conference season was really really difficult. I think that helped us prepare for SEC play. More than anything, I would give it to our players again for staying positive during the adversity we faced.” - Florida Head Coach Becky Burleigh. On Laís Araujo’s performance the last few games… “Laís is a really creative player. She sees the game in a very different way than most players. “When she asserts herself on a game, she really can make a difference and I think she’s really doing that.” - Florida Head Coach Becky Burleigh. On Florida’s defensive effort the last few games… “Those three that play in the back (Carina Baltrip-Reyes, Georgia Eaton-Collins, Julia Lester), along with Kaylan Marckese, that’s a tough combination to beat. They are playing 90 minutes a game, they are the iron women of our team. You have to give it up for the work ethic they are putting forth every single day.” - Florida Head Coach Becky Burleigh. On her stellar performance in the last few games… “I don’t know. I’ve been working a lot. The team is all working hard, everyone is working hard to turn this game around, just in general. We’ve had some adversity the past games, but we’re trying to fight back and especially fight for other things bigger than soccer. Today was a really good example. We’ve been fighting a lot together with Lo [Lauren Evans] and it was just a great moment for us to step up and give her this gift and she feels really great about it, so it’s really good.” – senior midfielder Lais Araujo LSU (6-4-1, 0-2-1 SEC) at Florida (4-6-1, 2-1 SEC) Donald R. Florida 0 RV Mississippi State 0 2OT Sept. 28, 2018 MSU Soccer Stadium Starkville, Miss. STARKVILLE, Miss. – Florida and Mississippi State soccer played to a scoreless tie Friday evening at the MSU Soccer Field. It was the first match played by MSU since appearing at No. 19 on TopDrawerSoccer.com’s weekly ranking for the program’s debut on a national poll. Friday’s Match: Florida had some near chances in its match-leading 20 shots Friday. Among the better opportunities was Mayra Pelayo’s shot in the 16th minute that hit the cross bar. Four minutes later, Carina Baltrip-Reyes almost tucked in the corner kick from Laís Araujo at the far post. With eight minutes left in the second half, another Gator – this time Cassidy Lindley – hit the cross bar off her 25-yard shot. In the first overtime, Pelayo’s deep cross was almost put in by Madison Alexander’s run to the near post. Quick Hits:

It was the third overtime match for Florida this season. The Gators are 0-1-2 in 2018 extended minutes.

In the all-time 19-match series between these two teams, this was the third overtime – with all coming in Starkville. Florida is 1-0-2 versus the Bulldogs in overtime action.

The shutout was Florida’s third of the season. The clean sheet is the 25th for Kaylan Marckese, putting her two away from tying the school record for career solo shutouts.

Two were not with the Gators Friday due to national team duties. Sophomore Deanne Rose is with the Canada Senior National Team for CONCACAF play, which serves as a qualifier for the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019. Canada opens play in Edinburg, Texas, on Oct. 5 versus Jamaica. Freshman Georgia Eaton-Collins joined England for Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Under-19 Championships. England opens play Monday versus Malta.

Hear from the Gators: On tonight’s match: “I don’t know how you are supposed to feel about a tie. It is a tough result because I feel like we really did what we came in here wanting to do, which is play our style of play. We knew Mississippi State would try to disrupt that and I thought we did a pretty good job of staying true to who we were. I think we lacked a little bit in the execution in the final third and we couldn’t put one in. But again, credit to Mississippi State for keeping us off the scoresheet. “There were lots of really good chances. It was a physical match and we kept our composure through that. It was a little skewed as far as fouls but I thought we handled that very well. I really proud of our effort and proud of how we came in here and did what we wanted to accomplish. The only disappointing part was not putting one past the goalkeeper.” - Florida Head Coach Becky Burleigh “It was tough. We knew they were going to be really difficult and we needed to stay composed. We had so many chances. I think we need to be sharper in our execution but other than that, I’m really proud of the team.” - senior Mayra Pelayo 2018 Records: Florida: 4-6-2, 2-1-1 SEC Mississippi State: 8-2-1, 1-2-1 SEC Series Record: Florida leads 15-2-2. No. 9 Tennessee 2 Florida 0 Oct. 4, 2018 Donald R. Dizney Stadium Gainesville, Fla. GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A goal in each half gave No. 9 Tennessee soccer a 2-0 win over Florida Thursday evening at the Donald R. Dizney Stadium. Thursday’s Scoring: Tennessee scored its earliest goal of 2018 in the second minute when Meghan Flynn’s horizontal pass through the box found the right foot of Danielle Marcano making a far post run. The Vols pushed the lead out to 2-0 in the 57th minute when Claire Franks tapped the ball ahead to Erin Gilroy located just above the six-yard box. Gilroy took a touch to her right before scoring on a right-footed shot. The Gators took a 13-10 advantage in shots Thursday but the finishing touch evaded them. Some of the better opportunities included Mayra Pelayo’s shot off the pass from Sara Wilson banging off the crossbar in the 23rd minute and Wilson’s centering pass in the 58th minute that was covered by UT goalkeeper Shae Yanez just before Sarah Troccoli could get a touch. National Team Duties:

Three were not with their teams due to national team commitments. Florida sophomore Deanne Rose is with the Canada Senior National Team for CONCACAF play, which serves as a qualifier for the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019. Canada opens play in Edinburg, Texas, on Oct. 5 versus Jamaica. The Jamaican roster includes reigning SEC Offensive Player of the Week – Tennessee senior Bunny Shaw. Gator freshman Georgia Eaton-Collins joined England for Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Under-19 Championships. England opened play Monday with 9-0 win versus Malta and defeated Croatia 8-0 earlier today. Eaton-Collins played the entirety of both wins. England meets Slovakia Sunday.

Hear from the Gators: Thoughts on the game after Tennessee’s quick first goal… “I think they [the Gators] did really well to move past that first goal. I thought the rest of the half we really took them a part a little bit. I think the disappointing, frustrating thing is obviously is that score doesn’t reflect what that game looked like. But in the end, the score matters. And we just have to be better at finishing at our chances. It’s wasn’t a lack of creation of chances, it was just a lack of being able to stick it. They were very efficient at finishing their chances, we were very inefficient at finishing our chances.” – Florida Head Coach Becky Burleigh On Tennessee’s defense: “I think we made it a little bit easy for them. Our chances weren’t very clinical, we put them right at the keeper or over the bar. I think that you have to credit their defense, obviously they did a great job.” – Florida Head Coach Becky Burleigh On tonight’s match… “It’s definitely a tough night. Tennessee’s always a tough team to play. But Becky said it at the end of the game, I don’t know if the result is how the game actually went. We had a lot of chances that we didn’t finish. So it’s just a tough loss.” – senior midfielder Sarah Troccoli On responding to Tennessee’s quick goal in the first half… “We actually responded really well to the first goal. We just got to put a way our chances the next few games.” - senior midfielder Sarah Troccoli On missing Deanne Rose and Georgia Eaton-Collins… “We always miss them. They are both two quality players. But the good thing about this team is we have a lot of depth. And D and Georgia always help. But like I said, we’re just missing that last pass.” - senior midfielder Sarah Troccoli Can you talk about the play a little bit? “I would say that as a team, we worked really hard. It just came down to execution, and today Tennessee was able to execute better than we were. It is something we need to work and focus on when we have those opportunities to finish.” – junior defender Sammie Better What was it like playing against Tennessee’s defense; they have only let up 4 goals the entire year? “They are a good team, I respect them, but I thing we did a good job breaking them down and getting into the box and getting opportunities. We got past them, but we could not get that last act.” – junior defender Sammie Better 2018 Records: Florida: 4-7-2, 2-2-2 SEC UT: 10-1, 4-1 SEC Tennessee (10-1, 4-1 SEC) at Florida (4-7-2, 2-2-1 SEC) Donald R. Sunday’s Scoring: South Carolina freshman Selma Sol Magnusdottir scored the day’s only goal in the 11th minute. Elexa Bahr won the ball above the box and sent it ahead to Sol Magnusdottir. With eight minutes remaining, Madison Alexander ran to catch up with a ball played into open space in the box. USC goalkeeper Mika Krzeczowski came off her line to make the stop but Alexander couldn’t quite get her strike off before a USC defender was able to step in to get a deflection for a team save. Prior to that in the 78th minute, freshman Cassidy Lindley’s angled cross just missed finding junior Sammie Betters foot eight yards above the goal. The Gators were in it until the end. With time ready to expire, junior Tess Sapone’s left-footed shot from 18 yards was just wide of the near post. National Team Duties:

Two Gators were elsewhere today due to national team commitments. Canada opened play Oct. 5 with a 2-0 win versus Jamaica and plays Cuba on Monday. Gator freshman Georgia Eaton-Collins joined England for Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Under-19 Championships. England posted three consecutive shutout wins – 9-0 versus Malta on Monday, 8-0 versus Croatia on Thursday and today’s 4-0 win versus Slovakia. Eaton-Collins played the entirety of each match.

Hear from Becky Burleigh: On this afternoon’s performance: “There were definitely some chances [to score]. Again, I will always appreciate the fight this team has and never giving up. There were long stretches – especially in the second half – that I felt we outplayed them. In the end, we all know that we get judged by the scoreboard. That’s the end product. We’ve got to continue working to get the end product.” – Florida Head Coach Becky Burleigh Florida has a week before its next match. How will the team use that time? “It will be nice to have a full week of practice. Hear from Coach Becky Burleigh: On tonight’s performance: “I thought in the first half we did not play well. I do think we turned it around in the second half but in the end, it comes down to execution. Again. I know I sound like a broken record. We have opportunities, but we’re not finishing them. I don’t know how many served balls we had in the box or crosses, but it was a lot. We’ve got to find a way to get them in.” – Florida Head Coach Becky Burleigh. Florida is back at home Thursday: “I’m really excited to be home. It is a challenge to this group. We’ve got to find a way to get some points in the SEC. We are at the last hour with three games left to do it. Georgia 0 Florida 1 Oct. 18, 2018 Donald R. Dizney Stadium Gainesville, Fla. GAINESVILLE, Fla. –A first-half goal from a Gator scoring her first goal of 2018 give Florida a 1-0 win over Georgia Thursday at the Donald R. Dizney Stadium. The shutout moved senior Kaylan Marckese into a three-way tie at the top of the Gators’ career shutouts list. Thursday’s Match: The only goal of the opening half came off the left foot of junior Tess Sapone. Senior Mayra Pelayo sent a square ball to catch Sapone just as she entered the top of the box. She took a touch with her right to evade a Bulldog defender and then used her left foot to score from the penalty spot. Florida outshot the Bulldogs 12-4 and each goalkeeper recorded three saves. Back Again:

Last night in Frisco, Texas, sophomore Deanne Rose was with Canada as they faced the U.S. in the CONCACAF title match (U.S. 2-0 win). Today, she returned to join the Gators, turning in three shots. She scored a goal in the win over Cuba during the group play stage. Canada joins the U.S. and Jamaica as CONCACAF teams earning a spot in FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019.

Record Equaled: With tonight’s result, senior Kaylan Marckese equals Florida’s career shutouts record at 27. Thursday’s result is her fourth shutout of 2018. The record was set by Katie Fraine (2007-10) matched by Taylor Burke (2011-14). Colorful Gators: Florida’s field players work their pink kits tonight for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. But cancer takes many forms. The Gators wore wristbands in different cancer support colors Thursday to recognize those in their lives affected by cancer. What color are you wearing tonight on your wrist and why? “I’m wearing lime, it’s for lymphoma. My grandmother passed away from lymphoma when I was a little kid, and a friend of ours just got diagnosed with leukemia. A lot of us wore different wristbands, the team is wearing pink, so it was a really special night.” – senior goalkeeper Kaylan Marckese Hear from the Gators: On tonight’s match… “Good to be back in the win column, good to get an early goal, good to get a goal. I mean a lot of really positives. Good to get a shutout. Definitely a lot of positives from this one. – Florida coach Becky Burleigh On holding Georgia to four shots on goal… “That’s an accomplishment because they have some great offensive players. I think our team did a pretty good job. They had two very good opportunities early and we came up big with that situation, both those situations. For us, we would like to eliminate even those chances. I think the second half was an even better example of our defense. It was really a pretty major shutdown at that point.” – Florida coach Becky Burleigh On the win with only two regular season games left… “Every game is important at this point. There is no room for anything but urgency.” – Florida coach Becky Burleigh On the team’s attitude heading into the next two matches… “It’s very (somber) to know we have such a big senior class and they have such a big impact for our team. So before every game we are always talking about we need to do everything for the seniors, play like it’s our last game. There’s only two games guaranteed left now and we know that it means so much to the seniors. So it’s important for us to go into every game like it’s our last. - junior midfielder Tess Sapone On scoring early and how that impacted the game... “Definitely getting that first goal in relatively early took that weight off our soldiers. But then it also made us think about keeping the pressure on them, not letting down or taking on their soccer style. So it was really important for us to keep playing Gator soccer, pass, receive, offer and keep going after them.” - junior midfielder Tess Sapone You had a couple of big saves, can you talk about those? “We wanted to make sure we were disciplined from the start. A lot of the SEC teams like to come and hit us early, so we’re just really working on that and making a couple saves in the beginning comes with the territory. Once we get a goal, then we’re flowing.” – senior goalkeeper Kaylan Marckese Georgia (4-8-4, 1-5-2 SEC) at Florida (5-8-3, 3-3-2 SEC) Donald R. Florida 0 Missouri 2 Oct. 21, 2018 Audrey J. Walton Stadium Columbia, Mo. COLUMBIA, Mo. –A goal in each half gave Missouri soccer a 2-0 win over Florida Sunday afternoon at the Audrey J. Walton Stadium. Sunday’s Senior Day result was Missouri’s first win over the Gators since taking a 1-0 win in 2013, also in Columbia. Sunday’s Match: The opening goal came in the 10th minute when Missouri junior Sarah Luebbert one-touched in the deep cross from Bella Alessi. Missouri’s second half goal came in the 66th minute. Blythe Beldner’s cross into the box was headed by Morcquess Oliphant. That shot was defected but Skye Kingsley slid to tap-in the ball at the middle of the goal. Florida outshot the Tigers 14-11, including a 10-5 advantage in the second half. It was Florida’s fifth SEC match it did not score a goal. Road to Orange Beach for SEC Tournament: With a single match remaining for each of the 14 Southeastern Conference teams, there a few things known and a few things left to play out:

Known: Vanderbilt wins its first league title since claiming the 1993 and 1994 titles Known: Seven teams (Vanderbilt, Arkansas, South Carolina, Tennessee, Mississippi, Texas A&M

and LSU) secured SEC Tournament berths To be determined: Five teams still in contention for final three spots in Orange Beach, Ala. – Florida

(11), Auburn (10), Missouri (10), Alabama (8) and Mississippi State (8) – as a three-point span exists between them. Win = 3 points, tie = 1 point.

Hear from Becky Burleigh: On today’s match… “The second goal was truly a back-breaker for us. I thought we started the second half really strong. Came out with some good opportunities and pressure on them. But I think we got a little impatient when that didn’t pay off and the second goal was the back-breaker. “Now it’s all about the next one up. Arkansas will be a tough match at home, but it is our senior day. That is something that is important to our entire team.”– Florida coach Becky Burleigh 2018 Records: Florida: 5-9-3, 3-4-2 SEC Missouri: 6-9-2, 3-5-1 SEC Series Record: Florida leads 30-3-1. Arkansas 0 Florida 3 Oct. 25, 2018 Donald R. Dizney Stadium Gainesville, Fla. GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida soccer sent its 10-member senior class out with a 3-0 win over Arkansas on a drizzly Thursday evening at the Donald R. Dizney Stadium. That result seals a spot in next week’s Southeastern Conference Tournament in Orange Beach, Ala. Play begins Sunday at the Orange Beach Sportsplex and all SEC Tournament play can be found on the SEC Network. Thursday’s Scoring: The opening goal came in the 10th minute when a pair of seniors connected. At the top of the Razorback defensive third, Laís Araujo’s pass found Briana Solis making a run through the middle. The ball got ahead of Solis and deflected off a defender’s leg back to Solis. She continued her run and sent a right-footed 20-yard strike to the upper far netting. A pair of goals in a four-minute span by sophomore Deanne Rose early in the second half pushed Florida’s lead out to 3-0. From the middle of the field, Pelayo made a move to evade her marker and then spied Rose ready to make a run. Rose caught up with the ball Pelayo played down the middle of the field and her left-footed strike scored from 14 yards in the 53rd minute. In the 57th minute, the ball Carina Baltrip-Reyes sent from just inside the Arkansas half deflected off a Razorback foot. Rose gathered up the ball and sent it right to Tess Sapone just as she was entering the top of the box. Sapone sent the ball back to Rose as she made a run down the middle of the box. Rose finished the scoring for the match with her 10-yard shot. Record Set: With tonight’s result, senior goalkeeper Kaylan Marckese set Florida’s career shutouts record at 28. Thursday’s result is her fifth shutout of 2018. The record was set by Katie Fraine (2007-10) and matched by Taylor Burke (2011-14). Notes:

Senior Night has accounted for half of Solis’ four collegiate goals. She hit her first collegiate goal during Florida’s 2015 Senior Night – also against Arkansas.

Rose recorded her fourth double-goal match of her collegiate career. This was her seventh 2018 appearance for Florida due to Canadian Senior National Team play.

Tonight’s result was the first shutout for a loss this season for the Razorbacks. The only other match UA did not score was a 0-0 double overtime tie at Mississippi State.

Celebrate the Gator Seniors: Florida’s 10-member senior class – Laís Araujo, Brittney Bennett, Courtney Douglas, Kaylan Marckese, Melanie Monteagudo, Mayra Pelayo, Rachelle Smith, Briana Solis, Sarah Troccoli and Sara Wilson – was honored in a pre-match ceremony. The Gators won the 2015 SEC title, two SEC Tournament titles (2015 and 2016) and advanced to the 2015, 2016 and 2017 NCAA Tournament. The 10 seniors is the second-largest class in the program’s 24-year history – second only to the 13 in 1998. One of Florida’s seniors was unable to play Thursday. Smith’s collegiate season ended with an anterior cruciate ligament tear versus Florida State. Hear from Becky Burleigh: On Florida’s performance… “I just told them afterwards that I was inspired by their performance. I know this team is capable of that all the time. I think that has been the most frustrating part of the season is that sometimes we haven’t brought that. I think they just need to continue to believe and take it one game at a time. Every day is Senior Day.” – Florida coach Becky Burleigh On what this game means moving forward… “We have talked all along about having some momentum. Hopefully this is what kicks us off.” - Florida coach Becky Burleigh On scoring the first goal of the match… “We knew we were in for a battle tonight. Arkansas is always known for just going after everything and giving us a fight. Our first five minutes we were going at them and trying to keep the ball. I made a little mistake at the top of the box and we’ve just been talking about continuing to fight through it so I was able to deflect the pass that she was trying to get out and finish it. - – Senior midfielder Briana Solis 2018 Records: Florida: 6-9-3, 4-4-2 SEC Arkansas: 11-4-3, 6-3-1 SEC Series Record: Florida leads 22-1.
