We will be invited to make a meaningful financial commitment to support our parish – thus, emphasising the need to plan and budget for it as a priority in our lives. You may have already completed your pledge on the form available in the Program brochure and brought it with you today. If so, simply place it in the basket when called to do so. If not, you will have the opportunity to complete a pledge card at Mass. STEWARDSHIP PROGRAM PRAYER Lord, we thank you for calling us to be your Church. Through our Baptism we are called to service and to witness. In the Eucharist we sustain and strengthen that call. By serving others we follow your example and proclaim our beliefs. By our Christian generosity we demonstrate our love and care. Lord, help us always to worship you as you deserve, to grow in faith and service and to give without counting the cost. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen Reflection: As readers of the Gospel, we have known that Jesus is ‘The Christ of God’ as Peter proclaims. But for the disciples, they had to work it out from what they had seen Jesus say and do…and they must keep this understanding to themselves. Why? Because Jesus is not the Messiah of Jewish conventional expectation. Rather, he is to suffer and to die, and through this, enter his glory. It is the journey every disciple of Jesus must go – ‘take up the cross every day and follow me.’ This is Luke’s way of saying that Christianity is a spirituality for the long haul. What is at stake is the daily dying to self, (being ‘crucified to self’ as St Paul says), a loss of the “life” we create from our own desires, in order to gain a life that fulfills our deepest longing – to love and be loved, to give and receive in a communion of love, both human and divine. That is our choice and challenge: Be “glorified” in the sight of the world now; or share Jesus’ cross now for the sake of everlasting glory. Chris Pearson Last Monday while we were having a public holiday and thus a long weekend, Americans awoke to yet another random shooting of civilians by an out of controlled gunman who claimed to be a part of every important organisation but was in reality a part of ‘nothing’, except for his hatred of fellow Americans. PARISH STEWARDSHIP PROGRAM 2016—Final weekend Our Stewardship Program concludes this week as we focus on the generosity of Our

Parish Community.

We will be invited to make a meaningful financial commitment to support our parish –

thus, emphasising the need to plan and budget for it as a priority in our lives.

You may have already completed your pledge on the form available in the Program

brochure and brought it with you today. If so, simply place it in the basket when called to

do so. If not, you will have the opportunity to complete a pledge card at Mass. By

completing and returning your pledge this weekend you will assist in keeping the follow-

up work of our Program Leadership Team to a minimum.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROUS SUPPORT OF OUR PARISH.

DISTRIBUTION MEETING

Parishioners who have generously volunteered to help with follow-up are reminded of the

Distribution Meeting at 7.30pm on Monday the 27th

of June in the Mc Kenna Centre. If

you have not yet volunteered and would like to help please feel free to join us. Your

support will be very much appreciated.

TWELFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINDARY TIME (YEAR C)

Gospel: Luke 9: 18-24 One day when Jesus was praying alone in the presence of his

disciples he put this question to them, ‘Who do the crowds say I

am?’ And they answered, ‘John the Baptist; others Elijah; and others

say one of the ancient prophets come back to life.’ ‘But you,’ he said,

‘who do you say I am?’ It was Peter who spoke up. ‘The Christ of God’

he said. But he gave them strict orders not to tell anyone anything

about this.

‘The Son of Man’ he said, ‘is destined to suffer grievously, to be

rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes and to be put

to death, and to be raised up on the third day.’

Then to all he said, ‘If anyone wants to be a follower of mine, let him

renounce himself and take up his cross every day and follow me. For

anyone who wants to save his life will lose it; but anyone who loses

his life for my sake, that man will save it.’
