Peace Corps Peace Corps was founded by President John F. Kennedy to provide education and technical training to citizens of other countries and to foster cross-cultural exchange. Since 1961, more than 190,000 Volunteers have served in 139 countries around the world. Peace Corps is looking for interested people of all ages and backgrounds to dedicate their time and energy helping others and learning to love new and exciting lands. Volunteers in Peace Corps work with local and regional governments, schools and universities, youth groups, community members, non-profits and social organizations, and entrepreneurs to address the needs in their international communities. Unlike other organizations, Peace Corps Volunteers live and work for an extended time in a local community where they provide guidance and skill transfer, as well as opportunities for cultural exchange and understanding. When Volunteers return to the U.S., they in turn educate fellow Americans by sharing their experiences.
