Parent Corner:Saturday school began Saturday, January 6th. If you have no returned the permission slip, please do so that your child can begin to prepare for the state tests. The next session will be 1/20.

Reminder: There is no school next Monday for Martin Luther King Jr Day.

Monday

Reading Read for 45 minutes. At least part of the time you should read a fiction text. You can also count the time it takes you to read the social studies text. Record in your reading log.

Choose from the Reading Menu (see attached) what type of jot you would like to do about your book.No matter what type of jot you choose, here’s your checklist for success:

- Don’t choose the same type of jot twice in one week.- Use text evidence to support your ideas.- Write the title, date, and H (for home) at the top of your notebook page.

Writing Finish your essay from school and/or write a new literary essay. (Altogether you must write at least a page and a half tonight).

Use the opinion writing checklist to set a goal for your writing tonight (Literary essays are a type of opinion writing because you’re giving your idea about the character).
