What to Expect in this Class : Class activities: Interacting with others and participating in class activities is essential in order to learn a language. Expect to work alone, in pairs, in teams, and as a whole class.

Homework: Language learning takes time and requires lots of practice for mastery to occur. Homework is designed to assist in this learning process and is expected to be completed before class begins. During the school year, you can expect to have homework on a weekly basis, Monday through Friday. There may be times that there is no homework, this will be the exception, not the rule. Homework is expected to be done before class and ready to be corrected out loud or on the board.

Reading - Students will be reading a lot in this class. Some readings will be done at home, while the majority will be read aloud in class. Follow-up activities may be quizzes on vocabulary/content or oral presentations. It will be common for a student to summarize what we read in class the day before. Readings will include whole (or excerpts from) novels, advertisements, menus, magazines, newspaper articles, etc.

Writing - Students will complete bi-weekly journal entries in Italian in a notebook while in class. Entries may be specific, current events, conversation historical or personal/free-style. Students will be given time to brainstorm their ideas and to be guided through the writing process

These projects may include, but are not limited to: formal and oral presentations, posters, works of art, compositions or song writing d poetry individual research based on a specific global topic.

Tests/Quizzes : Tests and quizzes will serve as one indicator of your mastery of what we have learned in class. They will be administered frequently, so I expect that you study and prepare for them accordingly. If you miss a test or a quiz, due to lateness, absence, or any reason whatsoever, you must make it up before or after school by appointment.

Attendance: Daily attendance will assist you greatly in learning Italian. I expect you to be on time and attend regularly. Any work missed due to an absence must be made up before or after school, not during class!
