After each student studied their president, they were assigned cross-grade-level groups where everyone has the same president. All students get into groups after a short time in their core classes on Fridays. In their groups they all have to complete a tri-fold. Gettin’ Presidential on FridaysBy Kristen Cheek

Recently at UCA-MG each student was given a president to research. After each student studied their president, they were assigned cross-grade-level groups where everyone has the same president. All students get into groups after a short time in their core classes on Fridays.

In their groups they all have to complete a tri-fold. After they complete the tri-fold, they have a few options of what they can do next. They can choose from a social media poster, a video, or a wax museum that displays

information about their president. In the video, they can either do a commercial or have their president speaking. If a group had another idea, they could run it by their teacher.

The tri-fold and the option of their choice will both be shown off at curriculum night on October 6th from 6-7 P.M. where everything will be displayed in a museum-style setting. ______________________________________________________________________________

STEAM of the WeekBy Zeke Emery

Our STEAM of the week is Focus, which is taught by Ms. Loftis. In this class everyone is a photographer. The class is based around the art of photography.

They recently did a color project where they were given a color, and they had to get the color and make the texture able to be seen. Now, they are working on photographing other STEAM classes. The class also does photography for the yearbook.

This STEAM class was thought up because Ms. Loftis used to be in a photography class and had an interest. This STEAM is focused on turning photography into an art, instead of just simply pressing the shutter button.

Building a Great TeacherBy Hannah Collins and Sarah Winkler

Our Featured Teacher of the week is Mr. Thomsen. He is the sixth and seventh grade craftsmanship teacher here at UCA. He teaches kids how to build and make things with their hands.

Craftsmanship is a program where kids learn how to make things out of wood and metal. They also learn to budget and how to manage a bank account.

Mr. Thomsen does not have a favorite grade; he likes them both equally but in different ways. He loves the way we teach kids and give them experiences. He loves when his students are excited about what they are doing and how they are pumped to do things.

In his free time, Mr. Thomsen has his own blacksmithing business called “It’s Iron Art,” and he likes music.  Some interesting facts about Mr. Thomsen: he was born in Pennsylvania and lived there most of his life; he plays six different instruments, and he grew up on a farm.

“He is funny, and he teaches us life lessons,” said one of his seventh grade students, Courtney Haywood.   Another seventh grader, Preston Long agrees that he is funny.

Charleigh Cole said, “(I think he’s a good teacher) because he actually teaches us stuff and life lessons.”  Steven Owens added that he likes that Mr. Thomsen doesn’t give homework. _____________________________________________________________________

Opinion: Ryan Lochte feeling the consequences, except this time he’s on Dancing with the Stars

By Fully Bossong

For some reason, Ryan Lochte has been given a second chance - not in the pool, but on the dance floor. Olympic Gold-Medalist Swimmer Ryan Lochte was the center of controversy in Rio De Janeiro when he lied about being robbed by an imposter police officer. It was later discovered that he and some of his teammates vandalized a gas station in Rio. This was not found out until he was back in the United States, but some of his teammates were still in Brazil. They were fined and had to go to court.

Lochte is now on the ABC show Dancing with the Stars. He is partners with professional dancer Cheryl Burke. The 23rd season of the show premiered Monday, September 12th.

The two had just finished doing their dance and were receiving some feedback from judge Carrie Ann Inaba when a few screams came from the audience. People watching the show live saw it cut to a quick commercial break. During the break, two men wearing shirts that had Lochte with a slash through it came running on stage. They were quickly tackled to the ground before they could get to Lochte. There was also a whole row of these idiots.

There was about ten people sitting in the back wearing, these shirts but they were quickly escorted out. This is honestly really dumb. He really didn’t even do anything to harm them. He was obviously trying to make Brazil look bad to cover up his crime. Of course the whole world saw this one American swimmer lie in front of everyone, but these protesters said Lochte “endangered” Americans, which doesn’t even make sense. These protesters were also booed out of the building.

This is all crazy, but what was ABC thinking when they let Lochte on the show? This whole fiasco could have easily been avoided if ABC just took a minute to think before they invited “America’s Liar” to be on their show. This whole thing is kind of dumb by ABC and those protesters. Well, Lochte still has a whole season of the show to do, so we’ll just have to sit back and watch to see if anything else happens._____________________________________________________________________________________

Dear Miss AdviceBy Maggie Kern

Dear Miss Advice,Recently I have been eating a lot of junk food, and I have not been very healthy. How can

I be healthier?~Feeling Blah

Dear Feeling Blah, Instead of eating fast food all the time, try cutting back on that and eat at home more.

Stock your kitchen up with fruits and vegetables. Cook good food like grilled chicken or fish instead of greasy foods. Another way to be healthier is to drink lots of water instead of sodas.
