42. Further Description of Important Features Main facade faces east .-Mainentrance approached on south facade of belfry placedalong southeast corner of structure. Fenestration consists of pointed arched windows divided into smallerpointed arched lights by wooden tracery. Occuli windowsare placed along parapet level of belfry. Enclosed woodden porch placed aong west facade. Remodeled in 1953.
43. History and Siqruficance St. James Baptist Church organized in1872 to serve the Baptist men and women of the ex-slave and Negro Westportcommunity. Present and second Black Baptist church in Westport was erectedin 1939 under the pastorate of Rev. R.L. Lillard. Significant as one of thefew remaining Westport churches in servicing the local Black community.

43_ History and Siqnitrcance Residence erected i-n approximately 1885. Around turn of thecentury, the residence became the home of Charles K. Price who was City Marshall for Westport Missouri in 1887. Significant as a fine example of localWestport Residential design which incorporated Chicago-influenced elements.Of particular importance is the five window bay on the south facade.

Unique, semi-circular five window bay placedalong south facade. Projecting east facade bay withPalladian-type window configuration. Fenestration con-sists of double-hung sash windows. Classical details.Three brick chimneys.

42. Further Description 01 Important Features Main facade faces east. Mainfacade consists of two belfrys with copper dome roofs surmountedby crosses. Main entrances are above grade approached by singleflight of stairs. Central main entrance surmounted by brokensegmental archpediment flanking entrances surmounted by pedimentdoor hoods. Central bay segment surmounted by pediment gable.

43. History and Si!Jnlllcance Good Counsel Church erected in 1906, represents one of the oldestRoman Catholic congregations in Kansas City. Organized in 1842, first pastor was JesuitFather Bernard Donelly, being appointed by Bishop P. R. ftbnrick. In 1888, Father R. M.Ryan finished second church. Present and third church erected built under pastorateof Father James T. Walsh.
Structure rests in ecclesiastical heart of Westport.Across Washington Street on the east is the Broadway Baptist Church. To the southare the Our Lady of Good Counsel Church Rectory and Westport Methodist Church. Tothe north are Westport residences (CONT1D PAGE 2)

Rustification stone quoining and window frames. Fenestrationconsisting of round arch windows, wity rounded tracery filledwith leaded art glass. Along west side is semi-octangularhipped root, single story ambulatory. Steel frame bridgeconnects church to Rectory to the south.
