1.Involvement Ambassadors
1.1. Mission/ Goal
Involvement Ambassadors will act as a vital connection between the student body and
the Pathways to Success program. Ambassadors will lead students to become more
involved, more enthusiastic, and more knowledgeable about the importance of growing
their Involvement Records—especially in relation to transferrable skills. In doing so,
students will strengthen their ability to succeed at the University at Albany and beyond.
1.2. Recruitment/ RSSW
1.2.1. How do we recruit for RSSW?
The recruitment process starts the week of the undergraduate registration. Email
announcements are made to inform students about the Pathways Program and the
various opportunities available for them to earn credit through their volunteer hours.
Flyers are circulated across all the residential halls to reiterate the applied learning
opportunity that Pathways provides students. This year the ambassadors created a
presentation documenting their impactful collaborations and outreach programs,
which was displayed on the T.V monitors at Campus Center to generate an
awareness of the opportunities available at Pathways and encouraging students to
sign-up.

Responding to student inquiries is the next crucial step of this process. Since email
announcements are made every Monday, through the period of undergraduate
registration, we allow for the responses to come through over the week and send out
detailed responses every Friday. The next step is setting up discussion timing with
the interested candidates and taking them through the program during a one-on –one
meeting and explaining the expectations of an involvement ambassadors. Students
are encouraged to reflect on the discussion and revert back expressing their interest
in participation. Last process of recruitment involves filling out the RSSW
supervisor forms, agreeing on a weekly meeting time to assess the student’s
performance and creating a volunteer hour completion plan.
1.2.2. How do we recruit Volunteers?
Usually at stage 3, a student would realize if they are interested in the program but
whether they have the bandwidth to commit to the RSSW hours for credit. These
students are encouraged to come to the weekly meeting of the ambassadors and
participate. More often, interested students and existing ambassadors who believe in

the program, encourage their friends to attend the meeting and volunteer for
Pathways to exhibit and promote Dane pride on campus.

Going ahead we can look at interviewing students to select a profile of students
suited for the program –

1.3. Training
1.3.1. Existing Training
Trainings are planned for both the volunteers as well as the RSSW students that sign-up
for Pathways to Success. The kick-off meeting for the Involvement Ambassadors at the
start of the semester involves engaging with the students to reiterate the mission of the
program. Students who have worked with the program in the previous semester are
asked to talk about their experiences and share the perspective of the program. A
presentation is shown to the students to helps them have a better understanding of what
the program stands for, what we hope to achieve and a what is expected of them. In
order to help the students realize the true potential of what their work entails, it will be a
good practice to showcase the work done by the volunteers in the previous semester, ask
some of the involvement ambassadors who have
The first day entails a generic briefing of the objective of the program and the
expectations from the volunteers. The following week, the involvement leads for the
semester are asked to formally train and prepare the volunteers with the tabling practices
that we follow at Pathways; this includes setting up the table, usage of the I-pads,
updating the inventory log and providing active feedback, adhering to the meeting time
and following the dress code,. This is crucial as students have varying personalities and
while we don’t want to curb their intrinsic nature, it is pertinent to ensure that the student
engagements and interactions help percolate the message for active campus involvement,
in keeping with the Pathways mission. The feedbacks received are discussed each week
at the Involvement Ambassador meeting so as to find creative and workable solutions.
Tabling points are created by the Involvement Leads for the upcoming events and the
volunteers are according trained and briefed, to ensure a successful student engagement.

While this semester the focus was on the “My Involvement Campaign”, volunteers were
trained on using the I-pads to helps students on campus log onto myinvolvement and
engage in discussions to help those students understand what a powerful resource it can
be, if used appropriately.
Training Calendar Monitored for RSSW Students
In addition to the above, the RSSW students are encouraged to attend the I-learn
workshops and ITS trainings on the Microsoft Office suite. The students are asked to
share their training schedule at the beginning of the semester and these hours are counted
towards the completion of the RSSW volunteer hours. This ensures that the students are
trained on the essential skills required at a workplace. The above table documents the
trainings attended by the RSSW students this semester.
1.3.2. Suggestions
We could collaborate with the Peer Educator Program so that our Students can be
adequately trained to interact with their peers and discuss their opinions respectfully.

Additionally, an expectation setting, by the team at Community and Public Services
(CPSP), would help the RSSW students understand the professionalism expected at the
organization that they will be working with. A mid-semester review of the progress of the
students by the CPSP will provide a window of opportunity to the organizations to
modify the training program for the volunteers so that their work benefits the
organization as well as the student. While, we do actively engage in feedbacks and
discussion at Pathways, students may be more likely to have an open discussion with
CPSP point of contact.
1.4. Weekly Meetings
There are two types of meeting; two weekly group meeting and one-on –one mentor
discussion with the RSSW students. The group meetings comprise of a one hour meeting
for all the Involvement Ambassadors and a one hour meeting for the Involvement Leads.
The Involvement Ambassadors meet every Monday, 8PM onwards to review and assess
the student interactions over the past week. An email reminder is sent out every Monday
morning, along with the agenda for the meeting. These meetings are facilitated by the

Involvement Leads; volunteers sign-up for the collaborative events, brainstorm ideas for
engaging with the uninvolved and narrow down on incentives to promote engagement.
These meetings usually last for an hour and comprise of group discussion on the feed-
backs/reflections of the past week and alternative ideas for increased sign-ups on
myinvolvement through promotions or campaigns. The minutes of the meeting are noted
and circulated to the team.
3 Step Meeting Process
The Involvement Lead meetings, held every Wednesday from 7:30 PM, is a facilitation
meeting where the students brainstorm solutions to the identified improvement
opportunities to streamline the existing tabling and campaigns executions. They agree on
the next steps for improvement of the identified gaps and allocate individual
responsibilities to make these improvements with a timeline. (Refer to the excel
spreadsheet detailing the execution target setting). These meetings are facilitated by an
Involvement Lead identified by the Graduate Assistant, basis their leadership skills. The
students take turns noting the minutes of the meeting and the same is circulated to the
team.

1.5. Jobs/ Assignment
The program has specific needs and we have clear job descriptions to ensure that the
Pathways Program is able to successfully have an outreach across the student population
on campus. However since our program is dependent on number of volunteers and RSSW
students who have signed up with for a particular semester, the responsibilities and the
job descriptions are tailored to meet the skill sets of the individual student while
simultaneously adding value to the program.
We currently have the following categories of responsibilities that are distributed
amongst 7 RSSW students that we have this semester. (Refer to the word document
detailing the job description)
1. Social Media Promotions & My Involvement Campaign: Abe & Jenny (60 Hours)
2. Marketing & Videos – Amaris & Bill (60 Hours)
3. Program Assessment & Administrative – Roselynn (100 Hours)
4. Impact Program & Inventory Management – Ebony (100 Hours)
5. Ying – Documentation Management (35 Hours)
6. Gabby – Tabling Co-ordination (Volunteer)
However, since we do have new recruits and volunteer each semester, it is important to
reassess the skill sets and the comfort level of the students that have signed up for the
program in a given semester and allot responsibilities accordingly. Weekly one-on-one
meetings help assess and gauge the student’s willingness to take on the responsibility and
the tasks given. Continuous engagement through the first half of the semester is essential
to ensure that the leads are equipped with the know-how and have clarity on the
expectations.

Impact Program and My Involvement Story Campaigns
Our events for the semester fall under two key categories: Collaborative Events or
Pathways Programs. At the collaborative events the students are requested to swipe the
attendees, take surveys or discuss the involvement opportunities on campus by partnering
at their events. The Pathways Programs comprise of campaigns such as “My Involvement
Story” and the Impact Program.

The calendar of events is created prior to the start of the semester. Since we have the
event calendar for the upcoming semester, provided by OSI, we are able to reach out to
various departments in order to partner with them for the significant events that they may
need assistance with. Frequent engagements are required with the point of contact for
each department to ensure that the logistical requirements are met and our students can be
prepared for the event.

This semester we utilized the social media to promote the “My Involvement Story
Campaign”. The “My Involvement Story Campaign” is a platform for students to exhibit
their Dane Pride by sharing their involvement stories. It also generates awareness of the
various ways to get involved on campus. Over achievers usually have several platforms
to showcase their achievements and that often alienates a large population. We feel that it
is important to recognize any and all forms of involvement. Through this campaign, we
want to give all those students a voice; because everyone matters!

This semester we were able to collaborate with 10 programs, sponsor 2 events and have
14 opportunities to campaign for my involvement story and have an outreach to the
uninvolved students using our Impact Program.

2.1. Pathways to Success Responsibilities
2.1.1. Create the Event Calendar

2.2.6. Create an article for My Involvement Story that can sent to the Marketing and
Communications Department
