행사의 취지

희망제작소와 인텔 아시아가 협력하여 제 1회 아시아 NGO 이노베이션 서미트를 개최하게 되었습니다. 이번 회의에는 아시아에서 NGO의 영향력 증대를 위해 힘쓰고 계신 다양한 NGO 리더 분들이 참석해 주셨습니다. 제 1회 서미트의 슬로건은 ‚Innovate, Connect, Build Asia: Building Capacity for Changing Asia‛ 입니다.

아시아의 NGO들은 현재 중요한 도전에 당면하고 있습니다. 아시아의 NGO들은 20세기 이래로 인권, 민주화, 빈곤, 국가 갈등에서부터 이민과 환경 문제에 이르기까지 크고 작은 문제들에 대처하기 위해 지역 사회 내에서의 다양한 연대/협력 모델을 연구해왔습니다. 하지만 21세기가 도래하고, 세계는 기후 변화와 국제 금융 위기 등, 더욱 복잡하고 심각한 문제에 직면하게 되었습니다. 이러한 상황에서 충분한 잠재력을 보유한 아시아의 역할은 더욱 중요해졌으며, NGO와 시민 사회는 다양한 사회 문제를 해결하고 더 나은 미래를 만들어 가기 위해 혁신적인 대안을 제시할 수 있는 중요한 사회 구성원이 되었습니다.

아시아 내에서의 시민 사회의 발전에도 불구하고, NGO들은 저마다 조직적인 도전에 직면해 있습니다. 그것은 그 NGO의 활동 분야나 표방하고 있는 핵심 가치가 무엇인지에 상관 없이 NGO라면 모두 공통적으로 경험하고 있는 도전들입니다. NGO들은 현재 재정적인 어려움이나 인적 자원의 부족과 같은 문제에 시달리고 있으며, 특히 다양한 사회 조직들간의 건강한 협력 관계를 구축하는 데 있어 필요한 실용적 지식과 경험의 부재와 씨름하고 있는 상태입니다. 그들은 불안정한 정치/사회적 상황과 더불어 시민 사회 내의 문화적 변화에 적응해야 하는 부담도 안고 있습니다. 이러한 공동의 문제를 해결하고 앞으로 나아가기 위한 대안을 찾으려면, 아시아의 NGO들은 어떻게 하면 자신들의 역량을 증진하고 끊임없이 혁신적인 방법으로 발전해 나갈 수 있을지에 대해 아이디어를 나누고 서로의 경험과 지식을 교류하며 서로를 통해 배울 필요가 있습니다.

행사의 목적

희망제작소와 인텔 아시아는 이번 제 1회 아시아 NGO 이노베이션 서미트가 향후 3년 동안 아래와 같은 발전의 밑거름이 되리라 생각합니다:

1. 아시아 내의 NGO 역량 증진 (역량 강화) 역량 강화 프로그램들은 NGO에 있어 자신의 목적을 효과적으로 실현하면서 사회 혁신을 위한 발판을 마련하는데 매우 중요합니다. 이번 서미트는 아시아 NGO 리더들이 그들의 조직이 직면한 문제 (재정적 지속가능성, 정부 및 기업과의 협력 문제에서부터 조직 내의 경영 문제 까지)에 대해 토의하고 아시아에서의 NGO의 발전을 돕기 위한 대안적인 접근 방안들에 대해 의견을 나눌 수 있는 특별한 장을 제공하려 합니다.

2. 긍정적인 사회 변화와 혁신에서의 NGO의 역할 증대 (사회 혁신) ‘혁신’은 으레 비즈니스와 과학 분야에서 다루어졌던 주제이지만, 혁신적인 생각과 접근 방안은 NGO의 주요 활동 무대인 공공, 사회 분야에까지 확대될 수 있습니다. 최근 아시아에서는 마이크로 파이낸스, 사회 변화를 위한 소셜 미디어와 기술의 활용, 대안 교육 모델과 참여의 방법 등과 같이 새로운 사회 혁신 모델과 대안들이 뜨겁게 대두되고 있습니다. 이러한 사회 흐름을 고려해 볼 때, NGO들이 사회 혁신을 위한 역량 강화를 위해 혁신적인 생각들을 교환하고 또 훌륭한 사례들을 접하는 것은 그만큼 의미 있는 일입니다. 3. 사회적 목적을 위한 NGO 역량 강화에 있어서의 정보 통신 기술 활성화 (ICT) 정보 통신 기술 (ICT)은 NGO들이 그들의 사회적 임무를 수행하고, 다양한 사례들에 대한 정보를 교환하며, 성공적으로 자금을 조달하고 교육 자료들을 공유할 수 있도록 중요한 역할을 할 수 있습니다. 따라서 사회 혁신과 기업가 정신 확립을 위해서 NGO들의 기술 역량 강화는 필수불가결하다고 할 수 있습니다. 4. 민간 부문, 공공 부문 그리고 제 3 부문을 아우르는 지역 사회 내의 협력 관계 강화 (제휴/협력) 희망제작소와 인텔 아시아는 아시아 내에서 기업과 시민사회 부문간 성공적인 협력 관계를 구축하기 위해 노력해 왔습니다. 서로 다른 사회 부문간의 협력 관계는 다양한 사회 구성원들의 이해 관계가 얽히고 설킨 복잡한 현대 사회에서 그 무엇보다 중요하다고 할 수 있습니다. 더욱이, 혁신적인 아이디어들은 각 사회 부문을 뛰어 넘어 영역을 가로지를때 더 효과적으로 적용될 수 있습니다.

Anjan Ghosh heads Corporate Affairs at Intel for the Asia Pacific region. He oversees Intel’s strategic relationships with key external stakeholder groups, in government, academia and community and manages the company’s corporate reputation programs, with a team spread across 13 countries. Intel’s initiatives in education, environment and citizenship are key pillars of its corporate reputation. His areas of interest include corporate social responsibility, public policy on ICT for development, digital inclusion and education. He has held various positions in governing councils of industry associations, chambers of commerce and university advisory boards. He received the Intel Achievement Award, the highest recognition at Intel. Anjan holds a doctorate in statistics and is based in Singapore with his wife and daughter.

안잔 고쉬(Anjan Ghosh)는 인텔 아시아 태평양 지역의 기업사회공헌을 총괄하고 있다. 그는 정부, 학계와 지역사회 안의 주요 이해관계자들과의 전략적 관계를 주관하며 13개국에서 펼쳐지고 있는 인텔의 사회공헌 프로그램을 관리하고 있다. 인텔은 교육, 환경, 시민권(Citizenship)을 사회공헌의 주축으로 삼고 있다.

그의 관심분야는 기업의 사회적 책임(CSR), 개발, 디지털 통합과 교육을 위한 ICT 공공 정책이다. 그는 협회, 상공회의소, 대학 자문 위원 등 다양한 직책으로 활동했으며, 인텔에서는 가장 높이 평가 받는 인텔 성과 상(the Intel Achievement Award)을 수상하기도 했다.

안잔은 통계학 박사학위를 취득했으며 현재는 그의 아내, 딸과 함께 싱가폴에서 생활하고 있다.

박 원순 변호사는 시민 참여를 바탕으로 연구와 실천을 병행하는 씽크탱크 희망제작소의 상임이사이다. 한국 시민사회에 잘 알려진 리더로 80-90년대 인권 변호사로 중요한 사건들을 변호했다. 그 이후 그는 ‘소셜 디자이너(Social Designer)’로써 한국 사회를 새로운 방식으로 혁신하는 방법을 고민했다. 참여연대, 아름다운 재단, 아름다운 가게, 희망제작소는 그가 설립한 몇 가지 비영리 단체들이다. 이러한 공로를 인정받아 2006년에는 막사이사이상 공공 봉사 부문 상을 수상하기도 했다.

그가 상임이사로 몸담고 있는 희망제작소는 한국사회를 더 좋은 사회로 만들기 위한 대안을 만들기 위해 힘쓰고 있다. 희망제작소는 ‘작은 아이디어가 세상을 바꾼다’라는 철학에 동의하는 시민, 공무원, 공직자와 활동가 그리고 전문가들과 함께 일하고 있으며, 커뮤니티 비즈니스, 사회적 기업을 통한 지역사회 재생에도 힘쓰고 있다. 사회적 기업가에 관심이 있는 사람들을 위한 교육프로그램(소셜 디자이너 스쿨, 사회적기업가 아카데미, 주민과 공무원을 위한 커뮤니티 비즈니스 워크숍)도 진행하고 있다. 희망제작소의 대부분의 프로젝트들은 박원순 상임이사가 세계 각지를 여행하며 얻은 아이디어들로부터 발전된 것들이다.

Founder Director of the Barefoot College based in the village of Tilonia in Rajasthan India. Started 40 years ago it is the only College built by the poor for the poor and managed by the poor who earn less than $ 1/day. The College follows the work style and lifestyle of Mahatma Gandhi where living conditions are simple, austere and down to earth, where there are no written contracts and no one can get more than $ 100/month as wages. Since 1972 more than 20 Barefoot Colleges have started in over 13 States of India. April 2010 he was identified by TIME magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the world. He was also selected for Geneva-based Schwab Foundation’s award in 2002.

Barefoot College http://www.barefootcollege.org/ Established in 1972, the Barefoot College is a non-government organization that has been providing basic services and solutions to problems in rural communities, with the objective of making them self-sufficient and sustainable. These ‘Barefoot solutions’ can be broadly categorized into solar energy, water, education, health care, rural handicrafts, people’s action, communication, women’s empowerment and wasteland development. The College believes that for any rural development activity to be successful and sustainable, it must be based in the village as well as managed and owned by those whom it serves. Therefore, all Barefoot initiatives whether social, political or economic, are planned and implemented by a network of rural men and women who are known as ‘Barefoot Professionals’. Major activities: -Rural Electronic Workshop (REW). REW is a facility set up for Barefoot solar engineers in their villages where they can easily carry out testing, maintenance, repair and production work. An REW acts as a mini-power plant -Rain Water Harvesting (RWH) It provides sweet water for drinking to not only people but also livestock; both, important criteria for rural communities that depend on agriculture and animal husbandry. -Education section has successfully existed since 1975. - Through a network of the Barefoot health team, Barefoot communicators and teachers, the Barefoot College has created health awareness among rural men, women and children on issues such as hygiene, food and nutrition, mother and child care, immunization, oral health, family planning, HIV/ AIDS, midwifery, common ailments etc. 1972년에 설립된 맨발 대학(Barefoot College)은 농촌이 그들 스스로 자급자족과 지속 가능하도록 돕기 위한 목적으로 기본 서비스 및 농촌 지역 사회 문제 해결방안을 제공하는 NGO이다. 어떤 농촌 개발 활동이던 그것이 성공하고 지속되려면 마을에 기반되고 마을에서 관리되어야 한다고 믿기에 모든 Barefoot의 제안은, (그것이 사회적, 정치적, 혹은 경제적이던) ‘맨발 전문가 (Barefoot Professionals)’라 불리는 농촌 사람들과의 네트워크를 통해서 계획되고 실행된다. 주요 활동들: - 농촌 전기 워크숍 (REW). REW는 맨발 태양에너지 기술자들을 위해 그들이 실험, 유지, 수리 및 생산 작업을 쉽게 할 수 있는 마을에 세운 시설이다. REW는 농업과 축산에 의존하여 살아가는 농촌 사회에 미니 발전소 역할을 한다. - 빗물 재배 (RWH). RWH는 사람들뿐만 아니라 가축들이 마실 단물을 제공한다. 양쪽 모두 농업과 축산에 의존하는 농촌 사회에 중요한 판단 기준이다. - 맨발 커뮤니케이터들과 선생님들, 맨발 건강 팀의 네트워크를 통해, 맨발 대학은 농촌의 남성, 여성 그리고 아이들 사이에 위생, 음식과 영양, 엄마와 아이 돌봄, 면역, 구강 청결, 가족계획, 에이즈, 산파, 흔한 질병 등 건강에 대한 인식을 확산시켰다.

Brenton began his career in the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, later consulting to Australian and British governments on public policy, performance improvement and change management. Brenton returned to South Australia to pursue his passion for public sector reform through executive positions with the Department of the Premier and Cabinet, Government Reform Commission and WorkCover. The Australian Centre for Social Innovation (TACSI) exists to identify and support the innovative ideas, methods and people that will contribute to and accelerate positive social change. It is a social innovation laboratory (more a 'do-tank' than a 'think tank') with the twin roles of testing ideas, methods and projects and brokering partnerships (developing relationships) between all the different players in the social innovation space (from individuals to community groups, companies to government).

Its goal is to bring together all sectors of society to find ways for it to be more resourceful, adaptive and resilient in tackling the big economic, social, environmental and cultural challenges of this century: To find better ways of addressing unmet social needs and better methods for innovation in the social sphere.

Professor Francisco L. Roman, DBA, has been associated with AIM since 1970. He is currently teaching in the AIM Graduate School of Business. Until September 2007, he served as the Associate Dean of the Asian Center for Entrepreneurship (ACE) and the Executive Director of the Hills Governance Program (HGP), under the Ramon V. del Rosario (RVR) Center for Corporate Social Responsibility, of which he is a Fellow. The HGP (Philippines) as part of the RVR Center addresses issues of corporate governance at the intersection between the private and the public sectors, focusing on specific industries or sectors. As the Executive Director, Prof. Roman supervised fund-raising, undertook cases and research and ran forums on various issues and industries—corruption in the military and textbook purchasing, responsible mining, and whistle blowing. Prof. Roman’s work linked CSR and governance. In mid-2005, he and the HGP ran surveys and forums and then published a Handbook on Corporate Social Responsibility and Governance (funded by the World Bank). In mid-2007 he was a consultant for the Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) in Dubai for a regional program on CSR, the environment and good governance.

The Hills Program on Governance seeks to develop an agenda that promotes good governance at the intersection of the private and the public sectors, confronting corruption and encouraging accountability. Its main emphasis is on conducting rigorous research and analysis, facilitating sectoral and regional dialogue, and developing educational tools to improve governance today and empower those who will ensure good governance tomorrow.

The Hills Governance Program was officially inaugurated on 4 September 2003 under the auspices of the AIM-Ramon V. del Rosario, Sr. Center for Corporate Responsibility. It was created with funding from the World Bank, the Hills Program on Governance at the Center for Strategic & International Studies - a Washington D.C.-based non-partisan policy research institution, and the AIM-RVR Center for Corporate Responsibility. When the C.V. Starr Chair in Corporate Governance was spun off from the AIM-RVR Center for Corporate Responsibility and made into an autonomous center, the Hills Program was made part of the new C.V. Starr Center for Corporate Governance.

A pioneer in fund raising and trained at The Fund Raising School in Indiana, U.S.A., Mayan managed the largest non-profit direct mail campaign in the Philippines with over one million letters sent annually, raising more than 85 million pesos in less than four years. Formerly the Resource Development Officer of United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in the Philippines, she initiated the first survey of the nature of gift-giving attitudes in the Philippines and has authored The Fund Raiser's Guide to Fund Raising. Mayan travels extensively around Asia teaching non-profit organizations the principles and success seeds of fund raising.

Venture for Fund Raising recognized this challenge facing the non-profits in the Philippines and Asia. They therefore envisioned a future where non-profits have diverse funding sources are more professionally-run and have a critical mass of committed donors and volunteers.

It has since helped over 600 organizations from 14 countries raise funds better through professional training, consulting, and research and public information services. They completed the first ever research project on fund raising strategies and practices of Philippine NGOs, and in partnership with the University of the Philippines Ugnayan ng Pahinungod, conducted the first household survey on giving. In the first quarter of 2002, they published the results of another pioneering study on giving and fund raising, this time involving six other Asian countries (Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Nepal, Pakistan, and Thailand).

Prior to ASIX Steve was, for 29 years, Founder, CEO and Social Entrepreneur with WorkVentures, an entrepreneurial non-profit organisation, based in Sydney. Established in 1979, WorkVentures has annual revenues around $16million, employs 150 staff and places hundreds of unemployed Australians in jobs each year.

Over the last 30 years Steve has also been part of creating over 13 new nonprofit organisations, most of which are still operating. They include JOB futures, United Way Sydney, Jobs Australia, Social Ventures Australia.

Steve has qualifications in social work and management, he lectures regularly on social enterprise, local economic development and non-profit management. He is co-author of ‘Nonprofits in Business’ (1995).

Steve is a Board member of Currency House Inc, a non-profit organization which promotes the performing arts in Australia and a member of the committee establishing the Australian School for Social Entrepreneurs.

Howard CHAN works as a cultural programmer in Hong Kong. Chan has been concerned with the bridging of different knowledge areas and resources in the society. In 2002, he co-founded and chairs the Community Museum Project (CMP), a curatorial/research collective that disseminates and articulates the culture and practice of everyday life. As part of this collective, he co-curated Objects of Demonstration (2002, 2004), (This is Not) Fake Museum (2003), Street as Museum series (2005), Designs By Users (2005), and In Search of Marginalized Wisdom: Sham Shui Po Craftspeople Exhibition (2007). With community as the subject and settings, and crossing the boundaries of exhibition, publication and tours, CMP uses ‚museum‛ as a method to give shape to vernacular culture often overlooked by the society.

Community Museum Project was founded in 2002 in Hong Kong by Howard Chan (art curator), Siu King-chung (design educator), Tse Pak-chai and Phoebe Wong (cultural researchers).

The Community Museum Project believes that a museum can be a means to represent everyday living and values. Through the collection and interpretation of artifacts and visual evidence, indigenous creativity, visual culture and public culture can be explored.

Through this process the Community Museum Project aims to nurture a platform to articulate personal experiences and under-represented histories. It can also be an occasion to facilitate the participation of the public and cross-disciplinary collaboration. To us, the word "Community‛ has three connotations: subject matter, settings and creative public interface.

Ms Christine Fang is the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Council of Social Service (HKCSS), an umbrella organization of over 370 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that are providing 90% of the social welfare services in Hong Kong.

Ms Fang started her social work career as a community worker working with marginalized communities and then became a lecturer in social work in the Hong Kong Polytechnic School of Applied Social Studies. Prior to joining HKCSS, she was the Secretary General of Hong Kong Red Cross, accumulating rich experience in both local and international welfare sectors.

Ms Fang also contributes towards the development and promotion of social welfare by means of participating in various government and NGO’s committees. Ms. Fang also helps in the work of other NGOs, including Hong Kong Press Council, Social Work Advisory Committee of the Hong Kong Baptist University, Advisory Committee of Department of Social Work of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Centre for Civil Society and Governance of University of Hong Kong as well as the Hon. Advisor of China Association of Social Workers.

In the 1940s, Hong Kong recovering from World War II had massive influx of refugees from the Mainland which generated the need to carry out large-scale relief work. Charitable organizations and welfare agencies provided services and assistance to those in need. The Committee on Voluntary Emergency Relief Council was then set up to co-ordinate and plans various welfare services. By 1947, the Committee developed into the Hong Kong Council of Social Service and became a body corporate in 1951.

The Council has grown since then to become an umbrella organization of over 370 Agency Member, that provide over 90% of the social welfare services for those in need through their 3,000 service units all over Hong Kong.

HKCSS는 홍콩의 사회 복지 서비스의 90%를 제공하는 370개에 달하는 NGO의 상위 단체이다. 1940년대에 2차 세계대전의 후유증에서 회복 중이었던 홍콩으로 대륙에서 수많은 망명자들이 유입되면서, 거대한 규모의 구호 사업을 실시할 필요성이 높아졌다. 자선 단체들과 복지 기관들은 도움이 필요한 사람들에게 서비스와 도움을 제공했다. 당시 자원 긴급 구호단체 위원회 (The Committee on Voluntary Emergency Relief Council) 가 다양한 복지 서비스를 계획하고 편성하기 위해 세워졌다. 1947년까지 위원회는 홍콩 사회 복지 협의회로 발전했고 1951년에는 법인이 되었다.

Bina Swadaya was founded by Ikatan Petani Pancasila (Pancasila Farmers Association) on May 24, 1967. It was initially named Yayasan Sosial Tani Membangun (Peasant Socio-economic Development Foundation). The establishment of Bina Swadaya was thereby related to the existence of Gerakan Sosial Pancasila (Pancasila Social Movement) comprising Laborers, Farmers, Fishermen, Paramedics and Entrepreneurs established since 1954. The goal of Pancasila Social Movement was to empower community in accordance with the ideal of independence of the Republic of Indonesia. 700명이 넘는 조직원들 덕분에 비나 스와다야는 인도네시아에서 가장 큰 NGO 중 하나이다. "비나 스와다야 (지역 자급자족 발전 기구)" 는 자급자족할 수 있는 지역사회를 개발하기 위한 몇 가지 서비스를 운영하는 사람 중심의 개발 기구이다.

After university, he worked at coop organization for 3yrs then flew to Canada on working holiday. He lived in Comox in Vancouver Island, where he side-worked on community currency project with Michael Linton, who was the inventor of LETS system (a community currency model) for 1.5yrs. Upon his coming back in Japan, he joined Earth Day money, and he is now in charge of many parts such as building and maintaining relationship with participating businesses, and operating local farmers market project, plus miscellaneous day-to-day tasks.

She has been responsible for those of the exciting projects of the Beautiful Store such as the first fair trade coffee of BS(2005), the first international conference of the BS - ICSC 2006, Namaste, Ganges Project(2006-present), Good Morning Vietnam(2009), The Beautiful Library Project(2010) etc.

The Urban Poor Consortium is a coalition of urban poor friends and organizations in Indonesia and ACHR's main contact in Jakarta. The UPC is at the forefront of the struggle to defend the rights of the poor. UPC works with urban marginal communities with a holistic and participatory approach and putting people's interests as top priority. Hence, a marginal urban community is the subject and the main stakeholders who have access and control over all business activities.

UPC devotes its motion on the growth of critical consciousness of the people through the expansion of information disseminator. UPC believes that accurate and relevant information that could encourage people to act singly or collectively to change the reality of an unjust and oppressive. Collective action, in particular, open spaces of political awareness and willingness to participate in public decision making.

The backbone of the overall activities of the UPC is the community volunteers or community leaders, who in the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the activities work closely with the community organizers (CO) of the UPC. The following units in the UPC support their sectoral and community activities. · Community Organizing unit that facilitates and gives individual consultation and facilitation to each of the COs in their tasks to do organizing activities; · Multimedia that develops ideas and visualization of training and advocacy materials, disseminates and gather information; · Training unit that formulate concept, develops materials and implement training activities; · Settlement unit that facilitates advocacy and organizing activities by addressing settlement issues and problems; and · Advocacy unit. The UPC has developed into a NGO that opens up greater space for the urban poor to fight for their basic human rights (economy, political participation, welfare and quality of life). The UPC has been working with around one hundred poor communities including within are squatter communities living along the river banks and railways, factory workers, fisher folk communities, and peasants in communities in the fringes of Jakarta. All in all, they involve around 100 thousand households, 5000 becak drivers, some street hawkers groups and others. Initiatives to improve the economic condition start to emerge, the political awareness of the urban poor increases, there is a better understanding as to their condition and problems and alternatives to solve the problems.

도시빈빈협의회(Urban Poor Consortium)는 인도네시아의 저소득층 인구와 여러 기관들이 모여서 설립되었다. 현재 ACHR의 거점은 자카르타이다. 이하 UPC는 도시 빈곤층의 권익을 보장하기 위해 발벗고 나서고 있다. 단체는 빈곤층의 권익을 최우선의 가치로 여기며, 총체적이고 참여 유도적 접근을 통해 도시 주변 지역 공동체와 일하고 있다. 따라서 도시 변경 지역이 UPC의 가장 주요한 고객이며, 단체의 모든 업무에 접근 권한을 부여 받고 관리하고 있다. UPC는 사람들의 의식 수준을 높이기 위해 정보를 대량 공유하고 있다. 차별적이고 불합리한 현재 상태를 바꾸기 위해서는 사람들이 적절하게 협력하여 행동할 수 있도록 정확한 정보를 제공하는 것이 중요하다고 단체는 생각한다. 특히 UPC는 공동 의사 결정 과정에서 참여 의식을 갖고 의사를 개진하고 참여하는 것을 장려하고 있다.

UPC 주요한 업무의 대부분은 지역 자원 봉사자들과 지역 리더들과의 협력을 통해 이루어지고 있다. 이들은 UPC의 CO들과 함께 계획, 이행, 감시와 평가에 이르기 까지 모든 일을 함께 하고 있다. UPC는 지역의 이러한 업무들을 지원하고 돕는 역할을 하고 있다. 지역 조직 부서: CO들이 지역 조직 활동을 하도록 개인 컨설팅과 촉진을 통해 다각적으로 돕고 있다.

UPC는 도시 빈곤층들이 경제, 정치 참여, 복지 그리고 삶의 질 분야에 있어 그들의 기본권을 위해 사회 압력과 맞설 수 있도록 발판을 마련해주는 비 정부 기구로 성장하였다. 단체는 강가와 철도 주변의 공유지 거주자들, 공장 노동자들, 어촌 민들, 자카르타 주변 지역의 농부들을 포함하여 약 100여 개의 공동체와 손을 잡고 일해오고 있다. 여태까지 10만여 개의 가구, 5000명의 노점상과 다수의 행상인들이 UPC의 손을 거쳐간 셈이다. UPC의 노력의 결과 현재, 경제 상황 개선을 위한 움직임이 보이고 있으며, 도시 빈곤층에 대한 전반적인 이해도가 높아졌다. 또한 그들의 어려움을 파악하고 대안을 모색하는 것이 국가 문제로 대두되고 있어 고무적인 전망을 보이고 있다고 할 수 있다.

Sanjay’s idea is based on the knowledge that effective social change work rarely happens in isolation, that all efforts are deeply enriched by partnerships and the sharing of information. He has created a categorically new tool for citizen sector organizations in India to form such partnerships through his Web site IndianNGOs.com.

Pratham was established in 1994 to provide education to the children in the slums of Mumbai city. Since then, the organization has grown both in scope and geographical coverage.

The organization is founded on the firm belief that education is the fundamental right of every child and no child should be deprived of this basic right simply because he/she does not have access to it or does not have the resources to realize his/her dreams.

Pratham firmly believes in working with the government to bring about large scale change and therefore our programs are aimed at supplementing rather than replacing governmental efforts. We have signed Memorandums of Understanding with 8 state governments for our flagship program - Read India and are working in close collaboration with the municipal corporations in several cities such as Mumbai and Delhi.

Empowerment of women, especially from economically weaker sections of society and from minority religious groups is often cited as one of Pratham’s most significant contributions to the communities in which it intervenes.

GURMIT SINGH has been an environmental activist since 1974. He is currently the Chairman of the Centre for Environment, Technology & Development, Malaysia [CETDEM] of which he was the founder Exec. Dir. For 22 years. He is also the current Regional Coordinator of the Climate Action Network Southeast Asia.[CANSEA]. He has a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Malaya. Gurmit has followed environmental issues at the international level since the lead up to the Rio Summit of 1992.

Non-Profit Incubator (NPI) is a non-governmental organization founded with the support from the government, international and domestic funding organizations, enterprises and academics. Since its establishment, NPI takes it as its mission to advance social innovation and to foster social entrepreneurs, aiming to provide substantial support to start-up, small or medium-sized social enterprises, and at the same time, to explore a way for the development of NGO supporting organizations at the early stage of China’s philanthropy.

The NPI Incubator Program provides crucial resources needed by newly established NGOs and Social enterprises, including free office space and facilities, counseling and capacity-building programs, and micro-grants. Under his leadership, Molave has been one of the most recognized organizations in country that is working on innovative projects and research initiatives on the role of ICTs in the fields of health, education and sustainable development. Dr. Ramos has been working on several international projects, and is also a consultant with various agencies such as the International Development Research Center of Canada, USAID, JICA, WHO, UNICEF and others. He is in demand as a workshop facilitator on organizational development, communications planning, strategic planning and content development. His currently the Chair of the Philippine Community eCenter Network, a national network of telecenters, and is a member of the steering committee of the e-Governance for Efficiency and Effectiveness Project, a national ICT policy-making group funded by CIDA. He is also a faculty member of the Ateneo de Manila School of Medicine and Public Health, where he teaches Medical Informatics. His research work on innovative approaches in e-learning, e-health, mobile technologies and community-based content development have been published in books and peer-reviewed journals, and he has presented in various international conferences.

Anjana completed her M.A. in Education International Development from the University of London and has worked extensively in the development of quality education in Pakistan. Now as a leader and a manager she has led her team to develop a Teacher Training Model and an Education Program at DIL that enables 21 Century pedagogy and skills, and captures new knowledge through practice and research. Dr. Niven Huang is in charge of the operation of the Business Council for Sustainable Development of the Republic of China (BCSD-Taiwan) since May of 1997. He leads the BCSD in developing partnership with a lot of organizations, including domestic, foreign and international, for conducting projects related eco-efficiency, energy & climate, environmental cost accounting system, environmental risk management for bankers, trade and environment, reporting, socially responsible investment (SRI), ect. He is the pioneer in Taiwan for promoting CSR, CSR reporting, greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory and SRI.

Dr Niven Huang is specialized in waste management and worked for Super Max Engineering, the largest environmental engineering enterprise in Taiwan, as the sales and project manager for five years. During the period, he has completed some very successful industrial waste incineration projects. He had working experiences with a lot of proven waste thermal treatment technology suppliers, such as Sevedala Industries (USA) for Controlled Air and Rotary Kiln Incinerators, Segers (Belgium) for Fluidized Bed Incinerator, Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding (Japan) for Fluidized Bed MSW Incinerator, Niro (USA) for Fluidized Bed Sludge Incinerator, Wolvering (USA) for VOC Thermal Oxidizer, etc. Before working for Super Max, Dr. Huang worked for YFY Paper Company as a consultant because of his specialized technical background in fluidization combustion technology.

founding companies joined the Earthplace Foundation, headed by Dr. Carolyn Hansen. 31 Member companies officially and independently launched an enlarged and refocused BCSD Taiwan in May 1997. Chairman, Theodore, M. H. Huang, has been on board since June, 2003. He is the Chairman of the Board, Teco Electric & Machinery Co., Ltd. (TECO), a leading manufacturer of electric motors in Taiwan since 1956. He is also chairing the Chinese National Association of Industry and Commerce (CNAIC), the most influential business organization in Taiwan. Chairman Huang is the member of the National Council for Sustainable Development of ROC, which is chaired by the Premier. There have been five full-time staff members in the secretariat of BCSD-Taiwan since 2000, including Dr. Niven Huang, the secretary general. Dr. Niven Huang has worked for the Council since May of 1997.

In addition to her work with the LIN Center for Community Development, Dana also serves on the advisory board of Working With Others, which supports to not-for-profit groups that address the needs of children with disabilities in Vietnam. Prior to joining LIN, Dana worked with the U.S.-Vietnam Trade Council & Education Forum. As International Trade Policy Analyst, Dana organized technical assistance programs, bilateral meetings and events for officials representing the U.S. and Vietnamese governments, U.S. and Vietnamese companies and the international trade and aid community.

Jimmy Pham started his now famous Hanoi Restaurant, KOTO, with street kids. Since opening the doors of KOTO -- which stands for Know One Teach One -- in 2000, more than 250 young people have graduated from the not-for-profit restaurant and vocational training center with a 100-percent job-placement rate.

Pham says the vocational skills KOTO offers are as important as the life skills which help the individuals and their families for the long term.

KOTO is a not-for-profit restaurant and vocational training program that is changing the lives of street and disadvantaged youth in Vietnam. The concept of KOTO began on the streets of Hanoi in 1996 when an Australian Vietnamese man, Mr. Jimmy Pham, asked a group of street kids what they wanted out of life.

KOTO has grown from a small sandwich shop in Hanoi to a recognized dynamic restaurant and its effective grassroots development project that is breaking the cycle of poverty amongst street and disadvantaged youth in Vietnam.

KOTO는 베트남의 노숙자나 사회적 약자의 인생을 변화시킬 수 있는 직업교육프로그램을 제공하는 비영리식당이다. KOTO의 시초는 1996년 호주에서 태어난 베트남인 지니팜(Jimmy Pharm)씨가 하노이에서 거리의 아이들에게 그들의 인생에서 원하는 것이 무엇인지에 대한 질문을 던진 것이 그 시작이다. KOTO는 하노이의 작은 샌드위치 점으로 시작해 이제 정평이 난 역동적인 식당이 되었으며, 베트남에서 노숙자와 사회적 약자들이 빈곤의 굴레를 끈을 수 있는 효과적인 민초개발프로젝트로 자리잡았다.

With his exceptional skill in ICT for Development, Klaikong was a manager of Information Technology Institute for Education (ITIE) and ICT Team Leader of Thai Fund Foundation.

He is currently a coordinator of ChangeFusion working for ICT Plan together with Thai Health Promotion Foundation to provide technology tools for thousand of Thai Health Promotion Foundation's partners. Frank pioneered the GLV more than a decade ago when he was asked to be the founding chairman of a Safe City Taskforce by Hume City Council, on the outskirts of Melbourne, one of the world’s most livable cities. He had grown up in Broad meadows, an area long regarded as the end of the line that was incorporated into Hume. Frank is a dual winner of Australian journalism’s most prestigious honor, the Walkley Award, the Australian equivalent of the Pulitzer Prize. The GLV strategy was informed by the experience of his family who had the imagination to dream of a better future beyond Britain after World War II and the courage to cross the world to pursue it, like millions of other families. His journalism also provided insight into the key ingredients of strong communities: people, place and purpose. The Australian Minister for Communications, Broadband and the Digital Economy, Senator Stephen Conroy said in July: ‚It has had a profound impact. It’s an inspirational story of how you can take an idea, when everyone tells you it can’t be done. When everyone tells you don’t bother out there, it’s a waste of time. Frank would not listen to all the naysayers. He had his vision and he wanted to turn it into a reality and it’s now an incredible reality. Frank helped inspire me in trying to take this sort of idea across the whole country.‛

Rajeshree Dutta Kumar is a PhD and Senior Research Fellow from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi on 'Women, Justice & Law.' At CSDMS,, she looks after ICT and education initiatives and the developmental programs of the organization with specific focus on creating strategic alliances and collaborative partnerships. Prior to joining CSDMS, she has worked with ISST (Institute of Social Studies Trust) as Research Consultant focusing on monitoring and evaluation program of Ministry of Women and Child Development for Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. The focus of the STEP (support to training and employment promotion for women) program is to foster economic and social empowerment for women in pan India context. Worked with PWESCR (Program for Women, Economic, Social and Cultural Rights) as Program Associate, South Asia and coordinated two surveys related to violation of women, economic, social and cultural rights and right to dignity. She also had a chance to teach students at IIT Delhi, India. She has taught at University of Delhi.

Eve Chan’s dealt with series of different scale of ‚Eco-city‛ topics through OURs, like land planning in state, building capacity in urban life and reservation of trees in the city. She’s also coordinated many NGOs and NPOs workshops and seminars.

Having much interest in urban planning and public governance, she started her career in local government. Her working experience from the 1st to the 3rd sector gives her many chances to observe the roles of different sectors in the society, how to empower different social positions and more.

OURs is the first one to transform critical urban policy issues as the main non-governmental organizations, non-profit organizations (NGO & NPO), The use value of urban environment is their focus and the concerns of OURs are urban development, urban renewal, historic preservation and other kinds of urban issues,,

It was originated in 1989 by four or five members to protest against the high rocketed price of the realty. Their organization, then, became two distinct parts, ‚Organization of Urban Re-s‛ and ‚Cui Mother Service Foundation.‛

OURs은 ‚도시전문가조직‛을 의미하고, Re-s는 재디자인, 재 계획, 재 구축, 검토, 혁명 등을 의미한다. OURs는 중요 도시 정책문제를 중요 NGO/ NPO 이슈로서 바꿔낸 첫 단체이다. 도시환경의 가치를 활용하는 것이 OURs의 관심분야이고, 도시개발, 재개발, 역사문화보존, 그 외 다른 도시이슈들을 고민한다. 이 단체는 1989년 4-5명이 급등하는 부동산 가격에 반대하고자 시작된 후 OURs와 ‚큐 어머니 재단‛으로 나뉘어졌다.

Jessica Tam is the Business Development Manager of HKCSS-HSBC Social Enterprise Business Centre, a business hub which provides support to social enterprises in Hong Kong. Jessica oversees the ‚Social Impact Assessment‛ project, a collaborative scheme with McKinsey & Co. and KPMG to evaluate and enhance the social and financial performance of social enterprises. Jessica also set up a social learning project ‘ACT Social Awareness Network‛ that aims to raise social awareness of youngsters through community activities. Prior to her current position, Jessica served as a Policy & Research Officer in HKCSS and tertiary Institutes with a focus on poverty, employment, social security and regional development.

In the 1940s, Hong Kong recovering from World War II had massive influx of refugees from the Mainland which generated the need to carry out large-scale relief work. Charitable organizations and welfare agencies provided services and assistance to those in need. The Committee on Voluntary Emergency Relief Council was then set up to co-ordinate and plans various welfare services. By 1947, the Committee developed into the Hong Kong Council of Social Service (hereinafter called "the Council"), and became a body corporate in 1951.

The Council has grown since then to become an umbrella organization of over 370 Agency Member, that provide over 90% of the social welfare services for those in need through their 3,000 service units all over Hong Kong.
