3. The following remarks are relative to Appendix VI, Logistical Summary and Reco~endations:

a. Hations - It is the w1derstandin", at U•is Headquarters, that the requirement by higher authority, that ration requests be submitted t'·1ree (3) days in advance, is to alleviate spoilage by taking excessive perishable "A" and "B" rations out of refrigeration.

b, Hogas - It is considered that the present stock level of one (1) day supply in hands of using units is sufficient to meet the demands of units possibly being committed to a tactical uission during an administrative move. It is noted howe'!er that usii1g U.i1its must maintairl the required stock l0vel at all tinres.

c. This Headquarters concurs in the necessity for additional cor.munication equipnent and automatic ~<eapons to meet the rcquircotents of nuraerous patrols forward of the liLH. On 17 April 1953, letter serial 2403, this Headquarters recommended an additional allowance of sub-machine guns.

1. Forwarded.

2. The following comments are made in reference to Appendix VI of the basic document:

a. It is considered that no requirement exists tor Sonne photography. The large scale photography, which is available to this division, is sufficient for all practical purposes.

b. Concur in requirement for relief maps. Relief maps have a very useful application for briefing, debriet1ng, orientation, etc. , down to and including company level. Correspondence has been initiated in an attempt to procure these maps, but past experience has shown that receipt of suitable scale relief maps below Corps level is highly improbable.

c. Concur in desirability of employing War Dogs. It is the opinion of this Headquarters that a nlatoon of War Dogs would be- extremely useful in Korea, particularly in the leftRegimental sector of the MLR. A request for a War Dog platoon was recently forwarded to I US Corps.

d. I US Corps Administrative Order of 6 May 1953 requires supplies in the hands of troops to be as follows:

C1ass I: One day of supp1y •A• or "B" ration; one ha1f day of supply "C" ration.

Class III: One day of supply.

These amounts of supplies are considered adequate and an increase is not recommended. In the case of rations, the lead time of 3 days is to prevent spoilage. Emergency requests ar-e filled as they occur.

At 22001, Baker Company, 1st Batt~;lion, 1st He.rines arrived in the Battalion area and came under the operational control of 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines, At :?2Cl5I, Able Company, 1st Battalion, 1st Harincs arrived in the battalion .a.rea. a."ld C2~11le under the eper-ational control of 3rd Ba\llalion, lst Harines.

At 00,301, Baker Company, 1st Battalion, 1st Harines conunenced the relief of Item Gompany, 3rd Battalion, lst Harines. a, Class I - Rations

(1) While on line this battalion will"feed two (2) meals da~ly, Rifle Companies will be fed two (2) meals (A&B and "C") daily on new Jn,R

(3) All five (5) gallon expeditionary fUel cans.
