METHOD OF STARTING-Starling is carried out by means of lightssimilar to Traffic Lights and the "hockey sticks" placed in front of the carwheels are merely false start detectors which operate if the car moves for-ward before the green light shows. At the finish an "electric eye" is ableto time to an accuracy of one hundredth of a second.

Some 01 tIie !i)~1in te-daq« Speed fj.Jdat6_

This year Brighton Speed Trials are back to thestatus of an International event and it is marked by theintroduction of three classes under which all Grand Prixevents are held namely :Formula I for cars up to 1500 c.c. supercharged or

up to 4500 c.c. unsupercharged.Formula II for cars up to 500 c.c. supercharged or

up to 2000 c,c, unsupercharged.Formula III for cars up to 500 c.c. unsupercharged.

A. J. BUITERWORTH-Has made the best time of the day at aprevious Brighton Speed Trials in 1949 and has already this yearwon the kilometre sprint at Boreham. This car still has itsoriginal Steyr engine and is equipped with four wheel drivedevised and constructed by its driver and owner.

s. H. ALLARD-This sporting manufacturer-driver is the presentholder of the Forrest Lycen Trophy for the fastest spons car atBrighton. His most recent success 'Wasat Craigantlet where heestablished a new record for the hill climb using four wheel drivefor the first time.

E. LLOYD JONES-Drives the largest engined special in use to-day,being the 21 litre, 635 B.H.P. Rolls Royce Kestrel Aero engined"Flying Saucer." Recently be made fastest time at the RamsgateSprint and the vehicle is much less experimental than it was ayear ago.

D. PARKER-The present 500 c,c, class record holder at Brightonbas not perhaps had the best of luck so far this year in racingevents. He is to-day defending his title in a J.B.S. but is stiUfaithful to his J.A.P. engine.

G. D. PARKER-Present bolder of the supercharged sports carrecord at Brighton. This driver has had a great many successesalready this year in sprints at Boreham, Ramsgate, Tewin Water,Great Auclem and Goodwood. As its name, Jaguetre, suggeststhe car is basically a Jaguar engined Magnetre but with manymodifications.

F. C. Le GALLAIS and S. LOGAN-We are pleased to welcomethese rwo drivers who normally reside in the Channel Islandswhere they are both equaUy successful. Logan drives a Cooperand Le Gallais a rear engined Jaguar Special of his own design.
