The book of 1 Thessalonians was written by Paul and addressed to the church at Thessalonica.
Many believe it to be his earliest Epistle.
Thessalonica was a major port city and trade center on the Aegean Sea.

Historical Background: *The church had its beginnings during Paul’s second missionary journey soon after leaving Philippi.
• He had 3 successful Sabbath Days preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ in the Jewish synagogues. However, some unbelievers gathered a hostile crowd.
•Concerned for the Saints safety Paul and other companions left. Later he sent Timothy back to strengthen the young church.
•Paul wrote the letter from Corinth around A.D. 50-51

In the 1st Epistle of Paul the Apostle to the Thessalonians:
* Encouraging the members to live worthy lives in preparation for the coming of the Lord. (the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night)
* Understanding the Resurrection.
“For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming? For ye are our glory and joy.”1 Thessalonians 2: 19-20
