Investing in at-risk children for 30 years

Dear loyal friends, It’s our 30th year and we’re taking stock of what we’ve all been a part of over the past three decades. Our success is a result of our data-driven programs, and loyal donors like you who care deeply about at-risk children.

Last year we issued a challenge to you: increase your financial contributions so we can reach more students. And you did, so we created two new giving groups. The Pageturner Club members give $50 to $999. The Bookmarker Society members donate $1,000 and upward.

We reached more children, worked with more teachers, and received more funding in 2013 than in any prior year of Reading In Motion!

Take a minute now and stop reading this letter. Go back and look at those three smiling children on the cover. Those are Reading In Motion students, young children eager to read and succeed in school so they can go on and have bright futures.

They are the beneficiaries of your generosity! You change their lives with your contribution to Reading In Motion.

We have the program that teachers rave about. As we close 2013 and embark on 2014, we celebrate the past 30 years and remain focused on what is most important: collaborating with more schools so more children learn to read and have a brighter future.

The challenge we bring to you for 2014 is to help us meet still more corporations and individuals who want to be part of this bright future. Does your company have a matching gift program? Are you connected with corporations who you think should meet Reading In Motion? Do you have contacts who care about at-risk kids? Send them our way!

As always, we welcome your questions, ideas, and referrals to new sources of support. You can reach Karl at [email protected] or at (312) 357-9463.

To our continued success!

Reading In Motion coaches collaborate with teachers, working together to make sure at-risk students are reading at or above grade level by school-year’s end. The focus is on our innovative music and drama-based program that is implemented in English and also in a Spanish/English bilingual version.

Improved reading results are the outcome of this collaboration. As you can see below, we reached more students and gained better results in 2013 in comparison to 2012. Reading In Motion remains committed to getting every at-risk student reading through the power and discipline of the arts, particularly in the early years. As a donor, you’ve been integral in helping us gain these results and get more kids reading!

Your investment in Reading In Motion means that at-risk children learn how to read because their teacher gets a coach for the entire school-year. On average in FY13, this cost $350 per child. Your generous support this year helped us reach over 3,800 children living in financially disadvantaged neighborhoods. You have made a difference in their lives and we thank you sincerely.

Generous foundations continue to be our most significant source of revenue. To diversify and grow, we are focused on developing more relationships with corporations and individuals in FY14. As a donor you can rest assured that Reading In Motion is fiscally strong. We spend the largest percent of your donation on the program services our coaches provide when partnering with teachers to get kids reading.
