THE

BOOKOFLISTS

2016

Welcome to the 2016 edition of Florida Trend’s Book of Lists, a compendium of the largest companies in the state.

Florida Trend magazine is celebrating its 57th year in business, and throughout that time the magazine has provided both insight and sales leads to executive readers in every corner of the state. Just how many corners does Florida contain?

Well, Florida is a large and diverse place ranging some 835 miles in driving distance from Key West in the far south to Pensacola in the northwest region. The population today has hit 20 million and we foresee another quarter million each year.

So it’s hard to know everyone and everywhere. That’s where Florida Trend’s Book of Lists comes into play, because facts and data drive business success just as much as insight and intuition.

We have gathered together the many lists published throughout the year—from top public companies and private companies to the accountants and lawyers that serve them. We have key locations such as airports and seaports. We list the hospitals and colleges and utilities. And of course we list the banking institutions that provide the financing to keep business rolling.

You will note that these top companies don’t come from just one city or region but in fact exist across the geography.

Please let me know any other listings we can provide to ensure your success. Then please use the Book of Lists along with the regular monthly issues of Florida Trend to stay in touch with the growth and diversity of Florida.

With best regards,— Andy Corty

The 100 companies that made the cut in our seventh annual Best Companies to Work For rankings

THE LIST

To identify Florida’s best employers, FLORIDA TREND partnered with the Best Companies Group, which surveyed firms that chose to participate. Any firm with at least 15 employees in Florida, including firms based outside the state, could participate at no cost.

The first part of the survey involved a questionnaire about company policies, practices and demographics. The second part went to a randomly selected group of each firm’s employees, who responded–anonymously–to 72 statements on a five-point agreement scale.

The survey also included two open-ended questions and seven demographic questions. The questions focused on eight themes: Leadership and planning; corporate culture and communications; role satisfaction; work environment; relationship with supervisor; training and development; pay and benefits; and overall engagement.

Firms were divided into three groups–large companies of 250 or more U.S. employees, midsized companies of 50 to 249 U.S. employees and small companies of fewer than 50 U.S. workers.

Contract employees were not included in employee surveys and not added to employee counts.
