ANNUAL AWARDS
The 2017 IWJ Annual Awards will take place in the Gompers Room at the AFL-CIO Headquarters in the heart of downtown Washington, DC. Named after outspoken American Federation of Labor (AFL) founder Samuel Gompers, the location’s position in the heart of the city and its floor to ceiling views of downtown is an ideal location to host this year’s event.
INTERFAITH WORKER JUSTICEFounded in 1996 in Chicago, Interfaith Worker Justice (IWJ) has grown to be one of the largest networks of faith-rooted grassroots organizations and worker centers that improves workplace standards and conditions, and builds power for workers across low-wage industries.
Together with more than 60 affiliated interfaith groups and worker centers across the country, IWJ envisions a nation where all workers enjoy the rights to:
• Wages, health care, and pensions that allow workers to raise families and retire with dignity;• Safe working conditions;• Organizing and bargaining collectively without harassment, intimidation, or retaliation;• Equal protection for all under the law—regardless of race, religion, or immigration status— and an end to
the practice of pitting working people against each other;• Participation in a fair and just global economy that promotes the welfare of both domestic and foreign
workers.
