Academic English Coursesfor all students
Each semester you can choose from 85 courses to strengthen your skills in three areas of communication: pro-fessional (technical or business), academic (presenting and writing) and cultural. We are also happy to organize courses for individual departments. All courses offer ECTS points and require a brief online placement test before registering.
Intensive LearningFor a more intensive language experience, you can take block courses in semester breaks or attend a Total Immer-sion English seminar over a weekend.
Mobile LearningIf you like working independently, try our Guided English Self-Study which allows you to get credit for English work related to a massive open online course (MOOC) of your choice. We also offer online access to the Macmillan Eng-lish Campus to help you prepare for external examinations like IELTS und TOEFL.
Informal LearningJoin our Tea for Two program, which pairs fluent speakers with those less fluent, or visit our weekly English conversa-tion tables (‘Stammtische’). Free DAAD testing takes place weekly to help with your plans to study or work abroad.

English Coaching Programfor professors, academic staff, administrators & PhD candidates
The Coaching Program provides free English language support to TUM professors as well as academic and administrative staff on all three campuses. Participation can also count towards the ProfiLehre-Zertifikat Hoch-schullehre Bayern.
One-to-one CoachingProfessors receive individual coaching in written or spoken English. We can also visit your lectures, videotaping them if desired, and give feedback.
Small Group InstructionWe offer individually tailored group sessions for academic and administrative staff (instructors, teaching assistants, PhD candidates, secretaries, etc.) to help you communi-cate better in an academic environment. Block seminars are held during the semester breaks.
Interactive EditingWe edit your texts, such as lecture scripts or journal arti-cles, helping you become a more autonomous writer in the process. This service is a collaborative, iterative approachto revising texts, combining phases of editing with periodic feedback sessions.

English Writing Centerfor everyone in the TUM community
The Writing Center offers free one-to-one consulting in English writing for all TUM students, faculty and staff. We use your own texts as our raw material to develop your writing skills in the long term. You might bring in a section of a thesis or article, an essay or homework assignment, a CV or cover letter, or any other English text.
Our native-speaker consultants are both TUM students and professional staff. Appointments are available on all three campuses and through Skype.
Writing Fellows ProgramWe hire and train TUM students as Writing Fellows to staff the Center and to work as teaching assistants in courses with a writing component. Professors and lectur-ers can request to work with a Fellow in a current course or engage us in adapting a course to fit this program.
Thesis Writing ProgramWe award ECTS points to thesis writers who attend weekly Writing Center consultations or our Thesis Writers’ Workshop, which combines extensive instruction with a collaborative forum to critique your writing.
