John 3:16–18 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. 17 “For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. 18 “He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. John 3:36 “He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”

Romans 3:9–22 “both Jews and Greeks are all under sin; 10 as it is written, “THERE IS NONE RIGHTEOUS, NOT EVEN ONE...20 by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes the knowledge of sin. 21 But now apart from the Law the righteousness of God has been manifested, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, 22 even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe”

The only way to be declared “not guilty” in the courtroom of God is to have faith in Jesus.

1 Corinthians 3:12–15 “Now if any man builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, 13 each man’s work will become evident; for the day will show it because it is to be revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test the quality of each man’s work. 14 If any man’s work which he has built on it remains, he will receive a reward. 15 If any man’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.”

God evaluates the things that believers have done in their lives. - They receive rewards for things with eternal value. - They suffer loss for things not of eternal value.

All participants are saved and receive eternal life.

And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony of Jesus and because of the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received the mark on their forehead and on their hand; and they came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.”

Matthew 25:31–46 “when the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on His glorious throne. 32 “All the nations will be gathered before Him; and He will separate them from one another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats; 33 and He will put the sheep on His right, and the goats on the left. 34 “Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. 35 ‘For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat…’ 37 “Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry… 40 “The King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.’ 41 “Then He will also say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels; 42 for I was hungry, and you gave Me nothing to eat… 46 “These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

God divides the people who survived the tribulation into two groups:

1) Sheep: Called “the righteous” who believed in Christ during the tribulation evidenced by their kindness.

Reward: privilege of entering into the 1,000 year kingdom and eternal life.

into the tribulation, there is a last opportunity to follow Jesus but it will

D) Great White Throne Judgment: Final judgment of the wicked at the end of the millennium

Revelation 20:7-15 7 When the thousand years are completed… 10 the devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are also; and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever. 11 Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away, and no place was found for them. 12 And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds… 15 And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.”

A

God judges the devil and all resurrected, unbelieving humanity based on their deeds and the absence of their names from the Book of Life.

All judged here are found guilty because “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).

- Every wicked person and act in human history will have a day of judgment. - There is really a day when Jesus will reign in righteousness. - Sin will be finally removed- in us and around us.

The Sad Reality of HellThe place of punishment is described throughout Scripture as: - “everlasting fire” (Matt. 25:41) - “unquenchable fire” (Matt. 3:12) - “shame and everlasting contempt” (Dan. 12:2) - “their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched” (Mark 9:44–49) - “everlasting destruction” (2 Thess. 1:9) - “fire and brimstone” where “the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever” (Rev. 14:10-11) - “lake of fire and brimstone” where they are “tormented day and night forever and ever” (Rev. 20:10)

everlasting punishment … eternal life. The same Gr. word is used in both instances. The punishment of the wicked is as never-ending as the bliss of the righteous. The wicked are not given a second chance, nor are they annihilated.

Isn't eternal punishment excessive for sinning?

Rebellion is measured according to the power and worthiness of the authority offended.

Spitting in your face- A tourist (jerk)

- Police officer (crime)

- King (treason)

Mildly offensive

Very offensive

Dangerously offensive

, minimal punishment

, moderate punishment

, severe punishment

God is an authority of infinite power & worthinessRebellion against Him is infinitely offensive

Punishment is infinitely severe Eternal Punishment Hell

Jesus had to be an infinitely valuable sacrifice to pay the infinitely severe penalty for our infinitely offensive sin.

Only the death of God was good enough!

- Live a life of grateful obedience to Jesus.

- Act in love by warning your unbelieving friends and pointing them to Jesus who is their only hope of forgiveness.
