This Introductory Workshop covers the BASICS of what you need to know when you are going to restore, repair and look after heritage buildings, especially in the Historic City of George Town, from an introduction to the city as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and overview of basic principles of conservation to explanations of the various technical stages, from municipal requirements and guidelines to documentation and the preparation of bill of quantities for conservation work. It will also cover the 6 traditional shophouse building typologies and feature case studies of adaptive reuse. Day 2 will include site visit to view real examples of heritage buildings undergoing conservation of that have undergone restoration. This two days workshop is a necessary step in understanding how to manage and care for heritage buildings, and is a recommended first stage for all building and industry professionals interested in working on heritage buildings in George Town and in attending conservation training workshops conducted by GTWHI .
