Get Ready Southern Decadence Revelers: It's"Swimmin' with the Gods and Goddesses"
Southern Decadence Grand Marshals XLI Steven Mora, Rip Naquin, MarshaDelain, Misti Ates and Frankie Fierce presented the 2015 Southern DecadencePress Party on Saturday, May 30 at GrandPre's, 834 N. Rampart in NewOrleans. They met and mingled with guests from 7-9pm.
At 8pm, the grand marshals began\ the evening's presentation with awelcome by SDGM Steven Mora, and in celebration of the past, present andfuture, the introduction of their three charities. Your Southern Decadence teamchose the LGBT+ Archives Project of Louisiana to preserve the past, LouisianaEquality Foundation to preserve the present, and PFLAG New Orleans (Parents,Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) Scholarship Fund to preserve thefuture.
Past grand marshals were recognized by SDGMs Misti Ates and FrankieFierce including SDGMs 27 Errol Rizzuto, 33 Regina Adams, 34 Electra City, 35Tittie Toulouse & Paloma, 36 Julien Artressia, 39 Venus Santiago, and 40 AubreySynclaire, Reba Douglas & Chad Boutte.
SDGMs Rip and Marsha Naquin-Delain recognized current sponsors: Pre-senting - Ambush Mag, SouthernDecadence.com, The Golden Lantern; Gold -Todd Blauvelt, Oz New Orleans; Silver - Larry Graham/Graham Studio One, LawOffices of Warren A. This was followed by the song and poster presentation. The stage had a hugesilver frame, and as the Official Song sounded each grand marshal came out fromback stage dancing to the music down the runway and then back behind the silverframe and posed. When all was done, the poster was unveiled and the grandmarshals were behind the frame in the same pose. This was followed by thepresentation of colors in the form of top hats and a fan by SDGM XL Chad Boutte,sashes by Brandi Ice and custom pins by Dynasty Collection. The grand marshalssilver bow ties were by SuziiFrank Bow Ties, and Marsha's fleur de lis jewelry wasby Stephanie Danderson of Las Vegas.
The announcements began as SDGM Frankie Fierce announced the song:“Uptown Funk” by Bruno Mars, DJ JRB's Southern Decadence Pumped Remix,SDGM Steven Mora announced the colors: Lavender, Lime Green & Silver Lame,SDGMs Rip and Marsha Naquin-Delain announced the poster by renownedphotographer Larry Graham, and SDGM Misti Ates announced the theme:Swimmin' with the Gods and Goddesses (calling all Gods, Goddesses,Mermaids, Mermen and all creatures of the sea, swimmin' synchronized). Thenthey all blew their grand marshal whistles.

More on the grand marshals:Steven Mora has been involved in
the LGBT community by assisting as avolunteer for a group counseling pro-gram in New Orleans that helps indi-viduals with difficulty handling the ba-sics of life all the way through thebullying of LGBT people, not only fromthe mainstream community but alsofrom the LGBT community, who wouldvery much be at high risk for suicide.He was also Southen Decadence XLParade Captain last year and createdthe largest Southern Decadence pa-rade in its history, including the entirecommunity rather than just the LGBTsector, and continues to manage thisyear's parade with the same enthusi-asm and drive. Steven also was thephotographer for last years poster andprovided many of the photos for theevents around the city during the sea-son.
Rip & Marsha Naquin-Delain arethe first legally married same sex coupleto reign as grand marshals, and weremarried on their 40th anniversary in2013 in New York. The couple werePride Grand Marshals XVII in 1996,and Easter Grand Marshals I in 2000,while Marsha reigned as King CakeQueen XV of Gay Mardi Gras in 2008.The couple are proprietors of AmbushMagazine, and the Ambush OnLineconglomerate of websites. Over thepast 41 years, the couple has helpedraise thousands of dollars for variouscharities and causes vital to the LGBTcommunity. The couple has participatedin Southern Decadence for over threedecades.
Misti Ates was voted the GayAppreciation Awards Lesbian of theYear for the past four years, and is thesecond lesbian to reign as grand mar-shal. She was also New Orleans PrideGrand Marshal in 2011 and EasterGrand Marshal XVI in 2015. Throughher drag king persona, Johnny Pas-sion, Misti founded the LaFamilia Vari-ety Drag Show in 2011, a monthly showwhich showcases local talents on stagein different venues. Together, with her
