The Hope Bobcats are ready to kick off their season and bring that football spirit back into the community! They have been working hard all summer with prac-tices, workouts, andcamps so these guys are ready to go all out this year. After last year’s slow sea-son and pandemic-related issues, the Bobcats are de-termined to draw people into the stadium and lift the spirits of the community

with a stellar showing. Coach Phillip Turner says he is optimistic about the players achieving those goals. “I’m hoping ourkids can have the success they’re striving for,” Turner said. “They’re putting in the work and I just want to see them have those accom-plishments on the field and bring life back to our com-munity right now. When our football program’s down, it seems like our

community is down. They sense that, they feel that, and they’re working hard for our community.” Turner says that fans should be keeping their eyes on two specific offensive linemen: Kai Hamilton and Gregory Burton. “Kai Ham-ilton has already qualified and he’s our leader on theoffensive line,” Turner said. “He can play any position on the offensive line and can play defensive line, as well.

Gregory Burton is our ath-lete on the offensive line. He runs his sprints with skill; plus, he can get out and pull. I mean he’s a very athletic kid for the size that he is.” Turner says he is very ex-cited to see returning senior Ammorrion Dempsey get back on the field and that fans should definitely be keeping an eye on him, as colleges already are. “He’s our best player, pound-for-pound, and our All-State

quarterback,” Turner said. “He’s a college recruit and he has D-2 schools from all across the state looking at him right now.” Hamilton and Dempsey are reluctant to take cred-it, for they say it is really the team effort which will give the fans their Friday night entertainment. “We have a lot of heart,” says Hamilton. “All these guys are showing up every day and practicing really hard.

Plus, we have a big group of sophomore players this year who are really going to help us.” Dempsey shares this optimism with, “The Bob-cats have had their ups and downs over the years, but we want to prove to every-one that we can play. We want the people of the com-munity to pack out these stands just like they did in years past.” Both players hope for a crowd full of positive ener-

gy, yet done safely by prac-ticing social distancing and taking the necessary pre-cautions to maintain good health.

Turner speaks of his players with pride when commend-ing their determination and spirit. He says the best thing for these players going into

this season is support from the local community. “There is nothing like hear-ing the cheers of a crowd and seeing those stands full of red and white,” Turner says. “I played here when I was in high school and I want these guys to get that same experi-ence. It’s an amazing feeling, and it’s the greatest motiva-tion for lifting up a team.”This fall, the Hope Bobcats will be at Hammons stadi-um on Friday nights eager to show their community just what a football team can do.

Spring Hill football coach Greg Smith is excited about the upcom-ing season and says that the biggest strength the team has this season is its numbers. The 2021 Spring Hill Senior High football team currently has 22 players in total, two seniors, eight juniors and 12 sophomores compared to the 14 players they had at the start of last season, with more expected to be added after the school year starts according to Coach Smith. “22 is a solid number for us,” he said “It’s a pretty good number to get playing in an eight man league. We feel like we’ll be able to prac-tice eight-on-eight on a normal day. That’s a huge impact that the eight man option has on us trying to build this program back. We feel like we’re going to be better with the depth factor, so everyday

is where we can get better because we’ll have more kids on the prac-tice field and we just have to do it day-by-day to get better and better. We can just look at things a whole lot differently because we have a chance for our offensive linemen and our defensive linemen to only start on one side of the ball.”Smith is very excited about some of the 12 new sophomores that have moved up this year to join the senior high team. “We have moved some really good sophomores up who won a lot of football games in their junior high,” he said. “We bring a lot of talent in our sophomore class. I’m excited about the fact that we have got some young guys in the sopho-more class that play the game really physically. We are going to be in a spread, but we got some guys out this year that are gonna hit ya and

physical, fast football that’s going to be exciting to watch.” One sophomore in particular that Smith has his eye on is TJ Tipton.“As a ninth grader, he really ran the ball well in the state finals against a really physically strong Mountain Pine team,” Smith said. “I think he had 75 yards in that game in pretty much just the 2nd half. He’s just a really talented sophomore.” The only two senior boys on the team this season are Colin Pur-foy, who will mark his third year playing under Coach Smith, and Dolton Gamage, who will mark his second year playing for the team. “Those two will probably start and not come off the field very much,” Smith said. “Colin Purfoy is a quarterback and free safety. He can throw the ball about 65 yards. Dolton Gamage will start at receiv-er and at corner. Very experienced

young man. We’re small in our senior class but we’re very talented.” As for the juniors, Eli Perece is someone that fans should be keep-ing an eye on according to Coach Smith. “He started as a defensive end as a sophomore,” Smith said. “He’s moved into tight end and an 8th back, so he’ll be doing multiple things for us, we’re not sure exactly what, but he is an absolute football player.” Levin McGuire will be the team’s backup quarterback and starting out as free safety and Smith is very excited about him “Levin could do it all,” Smith said. “He’s a lefty and an interesting young man.” Kasen Korenek will be starting the season returning as an offensive lineman, but will go from center to guard this year. “He’s had a phenomenal season

and he’s our offensive and defensive line leader,” Smith said. “He’s been a good one.” Coach Smith also says that fans should keep an eye out for line-backer/slot receiver Dalton Glover who Smith says is “multi-talented.” “I feel like we will be a playoff team,” Smith said. “It’s going to be tight. We’re probably in the middle of the pact but I feel like we will be a playoff team and at the end of it, I feel like we have just as good a chance as anybody to win this conference.” Smith is very much looking for-ward to this season to get started.“We’re just excited to get it going,” he said. “We just hope and pray we get a full season.”
