Position overview

In partnership with the Warlpiri Education Training Trust (WETT) managed by CLC and with World Vision Australia (WVA) there is an agreement for Batchelor Institute to work collaboratively to manage and run the early childhood centre in Willowra.

The purpose of this position is to ensure the continued running of the Early Childhood Facility in Willowra where new mothers, parents and carers have access to playgroup and other relevant ECCD activities. Opportunities for playgroup workers and others, interested in accredited training in ECCD will be provided and those engaged in the training will have opportunities for practical on the job learning.

operational funding is secured beyond the scope of this agreement

Detailed Statement of Key Responsibilities and Performance Standards

1. Early Childhood Centre Coordinator

- Implement playgroup program following playgroup guidelines and protocols

- Implement employment strategy in collaboration with ECRG

- Undertake training for 8-10 students in Early Childhood Programs at Batchelor Institute of

- Indigenous Tertiary Education (includes the four playgroup workers and four others in the community).

- Work with WVA to ensure a strong collaboration is in place

- Report regularly to the ECRG

- Provide quarterly progress reports with reference to key deliverables identified in the Implementation Plan.

2. Lecturer Early Childhood Education & Care 2.1 Teaching & Resource Development

- Provide teaching and learning support to students, including student work placements, and their support and follow up.

- Prepare, deliver and evaluate workshop activities and work site requirements in Learning at Work – ECEC

- In cooperation with other staff develop teaching, resource and assessment materials.

- Participate in flexible course delivery strategies.

- Advise students on and document assessments of student performance according to the academic rules of Batchelor Institute and Faculty of Education and Arts standards.

2.2 Student SupportLiaise with tutors to monitor and support student academic progress.

Consult with Course Coordinator/Senior Lecturer and counsel students on their academic progress and recommend appropriate action.

Maintain close liaison with local stakeholders and key community personnel on student requirements and progress.

2.3 AdministrationAssist with student recruitment, enrolment, and travel.

Provide regular activity plans and reports on academic activity, as required. Participate in

Performance Management and Quality Assurance activities and programs.

Assist with work based staff orientation.

Attend Division and Institute meetings as required, and participate in Quality Assurance activities and programs.

Participate in validation, moderation of units and course monitoring.

2.4 Research & ScholarshipMaintain personal professional development and assist with research and curriculum review.

2.5 AdvocacyMaintain positive professional relationships with the appropriate sector and Aboriginal communities.

Essential selection criteria

1.1 A tertiary qualification equivalent to three (3) year qualification in Early Childhood Education and Care and at least three years’ experience coordinating an early learning facility, crèche or child care centre.

1.2 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116) and at least three years in delivering VET ECEC programs or equivalent training programs in Indigenous Australian communities or organisations.

1.3 Demonstrated capacity to work effectively and sensitively within historical, social, political and cultural environments similar to those of Indigenous Australian communities and organisations of the Northern Territory in the context of early childhood.

1.4 Demonstrated ability to contribute to the development of teaching and learning programs and resources in accordance with the relevant national training packages, responding effectively to the learning needs of adult Indigenous Australians.

1.5 Demonstrated communication skills in a range of diverse settings with expertise in being an effective member of culturally diverse teams including

1.6 Demonstrated capacity to manage the associated VET administrative tasks related to this position; work independently of direct supervision; possess excellent skills in time management, technology and electronic communication.

1.7 Must be able to undertake travel throughout the Northern Territory in a light aircraft, must possess a Northern Territory C class drivers licence with experience of driving on unformed roads, and must be prepared to stay in a range of accommodation available to the Batchelor Institute staff, including camping out.

1.9 Possess a Current criminal history check or ability to obtain one.

1.10 Possess a Current NT OCHRE Card or the ability to obtain one.

Qualifications in English as a second language or adult education qualifications.

Ability to speak an Indigenous language.

Batchelor has developed an innovative workplace training program, Learning at Work Book for the on-site delivery of the Certificates I, II and III in Community Services and Early Childhood Education and Care.
