2nd Annual Ciarra Rhodes Memorial Tournament Rules

MODE OF PLAY

SATURDAY, ROUND ROBIN, two groups of 6 teams. SUNDAY, DOUBLE ELIMINATION. Top 3 teams in each group will go to the CHAMPIONSHIP BRACKET, bottom 3 teams will go to the CONSOLATION BRACKET.

All games will be 50 MINUTES or SEVEN INNINGS long, No new innings after 45 minutes.  FIVE RUN LIMIT PER INNING (this is to avoid lopsided scores), however, no mercy rule, all games will be played to completion. NO OPEN INNINGS. SEVEN HR LIMIT, all HRs thereafter will be SINGLES.  Championship Game will be SEVEN INNINGS with no HR limit. Games will start at the scheduled time, teams need to occupy the fields immediately after the previous game finishes. If a team is 10 MINUTES late it’ll forfeit the game.  Tied games will be decided by playing the following innings in “one pitch” format until a winner is determined. There will be NO TIED SCORES

TEN PLAYERS on the field, up to eleven in the batting order. Teams with NINE PLAYERS will get an AUTOMATIC OUT in place of the TENTH HITTER. Minimum of TWO FEMALE PLAYERS on the field at all times.  Teams with less than 10 players may PICKUP whatever number of players they need, however, they may not SIT their own players so others can play. BRACKETS TIES will be broken by HEAD TO HEAD results. There will be NO TIED games. NEW RULE!!!!. if a MALE PLAYER is walked before a FEMALE PLAYER, the male player will automatically go to 2ND BASE and the female will have the option of WALKING to 1ST BASE or HITTING. This is in order to avoid teams pitching “AROUND” the female players.

PITCHING Pitching height is from  6 feet to 12 feet (1.8288  to 3.6576 meters). Mat will be used, HOMEPLATE IS NOT PART OF THE STRIKE ZONE and THE BALL MUST MAKE CONTACT WITH THE MAT TO BE CALLED A STRIKE. Any pitch not within the prescribed height will be called “ILLEGAL” by the umpire and counted as a BALL, if the batter swings the ball is in play. FACE MASKS ARE MANDATORY FOR PITCHERS!!!!!!!!!!

HITTING  All ISF, ASA and USSSA bats are allowed; NO SENIOR BATS. Anyone swinging a SENIOR BAT will be expelled from the game.  Anyone swinging a “SHAVED” or “DOCTORED” bat will be expelled from the tournament. When a HR is hit the batter will go back to the dugout (per ASA rules). NO RUNNING THE BASES. Batters will start with a 1-1 COUNT, no courtesy fouls.  This is a “HIT YOUR OWN BALLS” tournament, teams will provide their own 12” yellow 52/300 for males. LADIES will hit 11” yellow 44/375 balls (provided by team), hence, NO BUNTING and no “GIRLS LINE”.

OTHER RULES  All games will be UMPIRED per the schedule, if a team doesn’t have three players qualified to UMPIRE notify the tournament director. Teams will also provide a SCOREKEEPER and TIMEKEEPER while umpiring. Pinch runners will be allowed, any player can pinch run for an on-base player.  Decisions made by the home plate umpire are FINAL; grievances and protests will be handled by the TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR. Catchers will tag runners, however, EXCESSIVE COLLISIONS WILL BE AVOIDED, anyone making excessive contact will be ejected from the game.
