PBL Keynote Speaker Ty BennettWhen Ty Bennett was 21 years old, he and his brother Scott started a business in direct sales, which they built to over $20 million in annual revenue while still in their twenties.

Equipment for Competitive Events LCD projectors with VGA and HDMI ports will be provided for all performance events requiring PC computers. However, participants must provide their own computer/device for all events. Participants may bring their own LCD projectors. Participants using Apple products or other devices that do not have a VGA port or HDMI port will need to provide their own adapters. There will not be any scheduled practice time to set up projectors.
Internet access will be provided in the performance rooms for the following events:
Competitive Events Con� ictsIf you are competing in an event with a test and performance component, closely check the times for each event. If a test is scheduled at the same time as the performance, compete in the performance � rst and then report to the computer lab for testing.
PBL students registered for two online tests scheduled at the same time should complete one test at the scheduled time, then start the second test immediately after. Team members must coordinate with each other, as team events require a collaborative test e� ort.
PBL students registered for two performance events scheduled at the same time should immediately come to the Competitive Events Desk to resolve the con� ict.
Open EventsEveryone can compete! The Open Events program o� ers tests members can take without prequali� cation or preregistration. You don’t have to be a state winner—just a member. FBLA members may only take one open event. FBLA-Middle Level, PBL, and PD members may take two open events.
Tests will be June 26 (PBL & PD), June 30 (PD) and July 1 (FBLA and FBLA-Middle Level). Open events will be o� ered at speci� c times.
Election Headquarters NEWThe student names of all local (FBLA and PBL) or state (FBLA) voting delegate are required prior to NLC. FBLA-PBL national sta� will be available for questions regarding voting and o� cer elections. Election Headquarters will be located by the Registration Desk. Any changes to voting delegates will be handled here. Hours for Election Headquarters will be posted at the NLC. All changes must be reported by 1:00 p.m. on Day 2 (PBL: June 25 & FBLA: June 30) of the NLC. No changes will be allowed after this time.
Regional Campaign Rally and Recognition Session NEWThis will be the only scheduled regional business meeting. Each of the � ve regions will meet on Day 2 (PBL: June 25 & FBLA: June 30) of the NLC. This meeting will include state success stories, regional vice president candidate speeches, candidate Q & A, and all award recognition.
National Voting and Regional Voting NEWVoting will occur on Day 4 (PBL: June 27 & FBLA: July 2) of the NLC. Only voting delegates will be permitted in the voting room. Candidates will have reserved seating at the front of the room. Electronic voting will be piloted in select sessions.
Campaigning and VotingNational O� cer ElectionsAn important and exciting part of the NLC is the election of the 2015–16 national o� cers. Students interested in running for national o� ce can request the National O� cer Candidate Guide from their state adviser, or download it from fbla-pbl.org.
Candidates display literature at their campaign booths where members can talk with them about their platforms. Don’t miss the spirited competition and bid for delegate votes by the candidates and their campaign teams.
FBLA and PBL Local Voting DelegatesLocal FBLA voting delegates vote on the election of the regional vice presidents. Local PBL voting delegates vote on the election of national o� cers (president, secretary, and treasurer), their regional vice presidents, and bylaw amendments. The number of voting delegates is determined as follows:
• Less than 50 paid chapter members: 2 voting delegates• 50–100 paid chapter members: 3 voting delegates• More than 100 paid chapter members: 4 voting delegates
No chapter may have more voting delegates than the number of members in attendance at the NLC. For example, even though a chapter is entitled to three voting delegates, if only two members are present, only two votes may be cast. To qualify as a voting delegate, members must meet these requirements:
• Pay FBLA national, state, and local dues by the national membership deadline of March 1 • Pay PBL national, state, and local dues by the national membership deadline of April 15• Voting delegates must register for the NLC by June 4 (PBL) and June 9 (FBLA)
FBLA State Voting DelegatesFBLA state voting delegates vote on the election of national o� cers (president, secretary, and treasurer) and bylaw amendments. Two state voting delegates are registered by each FBLA state chapter prior to the conference.

Workshop topics focus on business ethics, careers of the future, college information (applications, funding, freshman 101, etc.), communication, community service, cyber security, e-commerce, entrepreneurship, etiquette for the job, � nance, hospitality, international/global business, job skills, management, marketing, social media (Google Apps, latest tools, etc.), technology (web, gaming, networking, future, etc.) and FBLA-PBL programs. Workshops are geared speci� cally for students, advisers, and Professional Division members.
NASSP RequirementThe National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) requires an adult chaperone for every 12 high school or 10 middle school students attending NASSP-sponsored conferences.
National Anthem SingersDo you sing? We are looking for an FBLA and a PBL member to sing the national anthem in traditional style at their respective NLCs. FBLA and PBL NLC Internship OpportunitiesEnhance your experience by working as an NLC intern in Chicago! Conference interns help national sta� with conference logistics and headquarters o� ce management. Interested applicants must be available to attend the Chicago NLC during these dates and times:

To participate, you must be available during the majority of the NLC. Interns must pay the conference registration fee, accommodations, travel, and meals. Launchpad by FBLA NEWLaunchpad by FBLA is a day-long “Entrepreneurship Accelerator,” providing FBLA members with real businesses/business ideas the opportunity to create a business plan, deliver a pitch, and learn from successful entrepreneurs. FBLA members (including NLC competitors not in events with a performance component) can apply for Launchpad, to be piloted July 1 at the NLC. Learn more at LaunchpadFBLA.org. Exciting FREE Certi� cation Opportunities for FBLA Students and AdvisersOnce again, Certiport is o� ering FBLA and FBLA-Middle Level advisers and FBLA members an opportunity to complete up to two Microsoft O� ce 2013 exams, MTA exams and/or IC3 exams at no cost at the NLC. These exams will be o� ered June 30 from 2:30 p.m.–5:30 p.m., and July 1 from 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. It is � rst-come, � rst-serve, so sign up today at fbla-pbl.org/2015NLC. Walk-ins at the NLC are based on space available.
Paid Certi� cation Exams This year’s NLC will include six industry-leading certi� cation exam o� erings for students and advisers. On-site registration will be available through the � rst day of the conference, but space will be limited.

Adobe Certi� ed Associate Exams (PBL & FBLA)An Adobe Certi� ed Associate credential validates an individual’s entry-level skills in planning, designing, building, and maintaining e� ective communications, using di� erent forms of digital media. Exams o� ered include Adobe Flash CC, Adobe Dreamweaver CC, and Adobe Photoshop CC. Each exam takes 50 minutes and costs $50 per exam ($65 after June 12).
CompTIA Strata Exam (PBL & FBLA)CompTIA Strata certi� cation measures an individual’s knowledge of a basic PC workstation, software installation, compatibility issue identi� cation, and basic security risk recognition and prevention. The exam takes 60 minutes and costs $35 per exam ($50 after June 12).
QuickBooks Certi� ed User (QBCU) (PBL & FBLA)The Intuit QuickBooks Certi� ed User (QBCU) premier/pro-2014 certi� cation validates the competency and skills necessary to e� ectively manage the #1 rated small business � nancial software application: QuickBooks. The QBCU certi� cation demonstrates relevant bookkeeping skills, including how to create purchase orders, track sales and expenses, produce and manage invoices, and monitor � nancial records. This exam costs $50 ($65 after June 12).
IC3 Global Standard 4 Exams (PBL only)The Internet and Computing Core Certi� cation (IC³) Global Standard 4 provides students and job seekers with the knowledge foundation they need to succeed in environments that require the use of computers and the Internet. It takes three exams to complete the standard certi� cation—Computing Fundamentals, Key Applications, and Living Online. Each exam takes 45 minutes and costs $20 per exam ($35 after June 12).
Microsoft O� ce Specialist Exams (MOS) (PBL only)Microsoft O� ce Specialist (MOS) certi� cation credentials demonstrates pro� ciency in the newest standard of the world’s foremost desktop computing applications. Sign up to take one or more of the O� ce 2013 suite exams to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access. Each exam takes 50 minutes and costs $50 per exam ($65 after June 12).
Microsoft Technology Associate Exams (MTA) (PBL only)Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) certi� cation is an entry-level credential from Microsoft that validates fundamental technology knowledge, enabling attendees to explore academic and career options and take the � rst step toward building a successful career in technology. Sign up to take one or more of the MTA exams to include Windows Server Administration Fundamentals, Windows Operating System Fundamentals, Web Development Fundamentals (C# and/or VB), Database Fundamentals, Security Fundamentals,Microsoft.NET Fundamentals (C# and/or VB), Networking Fundamentals, Gaming Development Fundamentals (C# and/or VB), HTML5 Application Development Fundamentals and Software Development Fundamentals (C# and/or VB). Each exam takes 50 minutes and costs $45 ($60 after June 12).

NLC and IFL Online Registration Online registration is quick and easy! Member and adviser information is in our database, so we’ve made it simple for you. Just visit fbla-pbl.org/2015NLC and have your chapter number and password available.
DeadlinePreregistration and payments must be received no later than June 12. NLC registration questions can be directed to 800.325.2946. Make sure your school’s accounting department is aware of the registration and payment deadline.
Registration RatesRegister by May 22 to take advantage of early bird rates. Regular rates apply from May 23–June 12. Preregistration closes at midnight (Eastern) on June 12. On-site rates are applicable starting June 13. Register by June 12 so all your conference materials are available when you arrive.
PaymentAcceptable forms of payment are American Express, Discover, MasterCard, Visa, school check, or school purchase order. Make checks payable to FBLA-PBL. Purchase orders must be received 30 days prior to conference, numbered and signed, and a check must be received prior to or at the conference. A purchase order is not considered a payment.
If your school is not paid in full, students will be ineligible to compete in competitions, including open events. On-site registrations must be paid in full on-site.
Conference registrations and housing reservations must all be paid separately and mailed to their respective addresses. Do not combine any of these payments. Send NLC and IFL registration payments to:

Lost BadgesLost badges can be replaced at the registration desk for $5 each. An adviser or chapter chaperone must accompany the member to the registration desk when a replacement registration badge is needed. We will need your chapter number and name, an adviser/chaperone signature, and a $5 on-site payment. This fee applies to all attendees.
Adviser/Chaperone RegistrationIf you have assigned a chaperone to assist or act in place of your attendance, he/she must be registered as the adviser/chaperone to have access to all portions of the conference and must pay full conference registration.
Guest RegistrationGuests are nonmembers of FBLA-PBL, including spouses, children, and parents. Advisers and members do not qualify for guest registration. The NLC guest registration includes a name badge, conference program, and admission only to the opening and closing sessions.
Tickets for Awards of Excellence Program Guests not registered for the NLC (just coming to see the Awards of Excellence Program) may purchase tickets for $25 each at the Hyatt Regency Chicago’s Grand Registration Desk the day before (PBL: June 26 and FBLA: July 1) the Awards of Excellence Program.
Registration Changes/CancellationsGuest fees and insurance are nonrefundable, regardless of cancellation date. Registration refund requests must be made in writing before May 22. Requests received by May 22 will receive an 80% refund. No refunds will be given after May 22. Allow four weeks for processing following the NLC. The deadline for name changes is June 12. All requests for name changes or cancellations must be submitted online. The registration change/cancellation forms are available at fbla-pbl.org/2015NLC.
Registration Hours and LocationPick up your chapter’s packet at the Hyatt Regency Chicago’s Grand Registration Desk, during the hours listed on the conference schedule. One FBLA adviser must pick up the entire chapter’s packet. Partial packets will not be distributed. PBL registrations may be picked up by each registrant.
Accident InsuranceAccident insurance is available for purchase from Federal Insurance Company. Those who purchase this insurance will be covered while in attendance at the NLC, including travel directly to and from the conference. Coverage begins at the actual start of the trip to the NLC and continues on a 24-hour basis during the trip. It ends when attendees return to their permanent residences. Bene� ts include up to $25,000 for accidental death or dismemberment and up to $2,500 for accidental excess medical expenses. The maximum limit of insurance is $500,000 per accident. Coverage is subject to the full terms and conditions in the master policy. To enroll, select the insurance option and include the $2 fee per person with your conference registration payment. Insurance is not available for on-site registrants and there are no refunds.
Please note: This is accident insurance; it does not cover illnesses not related to an accident. Sunburn is not classi� ed as an accident. For a claim against this policy, notify the FBLA-PBL National Center in writing for veri� cation of coverage and claim information.
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)If a participant has a disability that meets the criteria speci� ed in the ADA, complete and submit the special needs form at fbla-pbl.org/2015NLC.
PHOTOGRAPHY & DRESS CODE

PhotographyGene Cohn Photography is the o� cial photographer for the NLC. Have your o� cial state and chapter photo taken with the FBLA-PBL logo and conference date printed on each group photo. Advisers should email [email protected] prior to the conference to schedule group photo times. Once a time is booked, special order forms (with quantity pricing) and information packets will be mailed to you. No quantity pricing is available without the special order form. FBLA state/chapter photos will be taken by appointment and on a drop-in, space-available basis. Quantity pricing is not available on-site.

Conference Photography ReleaseFBLA-PBL photographers and videographers will be taking photos and videos throughout the conference for use in any manner FBLA-PBL deems appropriate including, but not limited to, publishing in FBLA-PBL publications, on the FBLA-PBL website, and in connection with competitive performance events. Names will not appear on photos or in videos. By attending the conference, you grant FBLA-PBL the right, without approval, to photograph, record, use, and edit your photograph, video, image, likeness, appearance, performance, and any other indicia of identity, in any format whatsoever, and to publish, disseminate, exhibit, publicly display, give, sell, and/or transfer the same in any and all forms of media or distribution now known or hereafter discovered or developed (including, but not limited to, print media, Internet, Web casting, video streaming, television or radio), for the use of FBLA-PBL, its a� liates, or any individual, organization, business, publication, network or other third party, in perpetuity, without payment or any consideration.
FBLA-PBL Dress Code *Revised 1/9/2009
FBLA-PBL members and advisers should develop an awareness of the image one’s appearance projects. The purpose of the dress code is to uphold the professional image of the association and its members and to prepare students for the business world. Appropriate attire is required for all attendees—advisers, members, and guests—at all general sessions, competitive events, regional meetings, workshops, and other activities unless otherwise stated in the conference program. Conference name badges are part of this dress code and must be worn for all conference functions. For safety reasons, do not wear name badges when touring.
Professional attire acceptable for o� cial FBLA-PBL activities includes:

CLARIFICATION—Many women’s two-piece suits are currently designed so that they do not require a blouse. Therefore, this will be accepted. In addition, sling-back shoes, open-toe shoes, and sleeveless dresses are accepted.
Silent AuctionChapters/states can donate a gift basket or item for the NLC Silent Auction. When packaging gift baskets, provide a visible list of contents. Proceeds from the Silent Auction go to student and adviser recognition programs. Visit fbla-pbl.org/2015NLC for the donation form.

General Rules and Tips• NLC registration must be paid to compete. • There will be no competitive event additions or substitutions on-site.• Many � nal rounds are closed due to space. Please check program for events that are open to public. • Make sure you follow the FBLA-PBL Dress Code. Do not risk disquali� cation or point deductions because of
improper attire. If you have a question whether your attire is proper, it probably is not. • Make sure you know where the performance room is located before your event time.• Remember, elevators may be slow, so allow ample time. Get plenty of rest the night before your competition.• Bring a writing instrument.• Name badges must be worn for all competitive events. The performance participants may take o� their name
badges when presenting.

Please note: States must stay at designated NLC conference hotels per the FBLA-PBL Board of Directors. There are many reasons why this is required, including cost of meeting space, room setup charges, and penalties for not � lling all rooms contracted. Hotel and Tax Exemption InformationSales and occupancy tax exemption for hotel occupancy is not available in Illinois. The current sales/occupancy tax is 16.4%. Purchase orders will be accepted for deposit. The � nal payment is due when you check in. Tips for a Smoother Hotel Check-in• Fax or mail changes to your assigned hotel. Do not wait until check-in to change reservations. If you must make a change in your reservation,
call the hotel directly; document the name of the person with whom you spoke and the date and time of the conversation.• Bring copies of your original reservation or reservation acknowledgement with any changes that were called or faxed to your assigned hotel. • Be sure your school’s accounting department sends separate checks for hotel reservations and conference registration to the appropriate
address for each. The payments must not be combined in one check.• Although you only need to send a deposit, paying the full amount in advance will expedite your check-in time.• If you are mailing your balance due, make sure the check clearly indicates to which school/reservation the amount should be applied. To be
absolutely clear, send another copy of your reservation form or reservation acknowledgement indicating it is a duplicate with the balance payment.
• Be as accurate as possible when completing the line on the hotel reservation that asks your delegation’s arrival and departure time. The hotel uses this information to sta� the front desk with enough agents at heaviest arrival times.
• If you have not received a hotel acknowledgement prior to leaving for the conference, call the hotel and verify your reservation. Document your conversation.
Hotel ReservationsThe hotel reservation receipt deadline is May 22. Reservations may not be available after May 22. Hotel reservations can be made online at fbla-pbl.org/2015NLC except for the InterContinental Chicago Magni� cent Mile. For InterContinental Chicago Magni� cent Mile, fax or mail the form found at fbla-pbl.org/2015NLC. Read hotel reservation instructions before proceeding.
Hotel Reservation InstructionsBefore the Conference
The deadline for making hotel reservations is May 22. Reservations received after this date will be made on a space-available basis. Links for advance online hotel reservations can be found at fbla-pbl.org/2015NLC. Hotel reservations for InterContinental Chicago Magni� cent Mile must be made using the o� cial hotel reservation form found at fbla-pbl.org/2015NLC and will be honored on a � rst-come, � rst-serve basis. Reservations will not be accepted by phone.
State housing assignments for the conference hotels can be found at fbla-pbl.org/2015NLC.
One adviser should be listed as the person responsible for the room. Be certain only one adviser submits a reservation. The hotel is not authorized to mix delegations to � ll a double, triple, or quad accommodation.
A deposit of one night’s lodging for each room reserved must accompany your hotel reservation. If your state has already guaranteed its rooming block, this requirement may have been met. Contact your state adviser for details. Acceptable forms of payment are American Express, Diners Club, Discover, MasterCard, or Visa; you may also pay with a school check. Purchase orders will be accepted. All deposit checks must be made payable to our assigned hotel and mailed to the address of your assigned hotel.
Your reservation acknowledgement will come from your assigned hotel. Allow two weeks for this acknowledgement. For a quicker response, include your fax number and email address on the hotel reservation form.
The balance due for room rates and taxes must be paid at the time you check in to your assigned hotel.
Deposit Refund Policy
Full refunds will be given if the hotel is noti� ed at least 24 hours (Embassy Suites Chicago-Downtown/Lakefront, Palmer House Hilton, Hilton Chicago, Chicago Marriott Downtown Magni� cent Mile and InterContinental Chicago Magni� cent Mile), 48 hours (Swissotel, Embassy Suites Chicago-Downtown, and Renaissance Chicago Downtown Hotel), or 72 hours (Hyatt Regency Chicago and Hyatt Regency McCormick Place) prior to arrival. No refunds will be issued for cancellations given outside the time frames listed above.

Plan your arrival after that time. If you arrive earlier than the check-in time, the hotel will make every e� ort to assign as many rooms as possible. Make arrangements to tour the area until your room is available if you know you will be arriving early. A luggage storage area will be provided at the hotel for groups arriving prior to check-in time.
To minimize confusion in the hotel lobby, one PBL representative or FBLA adviser must register the entire delegation. Clearly indicate the name of the person handling the group’s billing on the rooming list. To charge incidentals to your guest room, such as room service, restaurant, or outside phone line access, you must present a major credit card and driver’s license upon check-in. The assigned representative or adviser secures room assignments and keys for the entire delegation.
The hotel has been advised of the importance of placing the FBLA adviser and chaperone rooms next to the rooms of the students for whom they are responsible. They will make every e� ort to do so, but room availability is largely dependent upon the checkout time of those departing on the day of your arrival.

One adviser or representative must check out, turn in keys, and pay room bills for the entire delegation. The hotel will provide one bill for each room occupied. Verify your departure date on arrival. Early departure may result in a penalty fee.

Conference Preparation TipsHere are some tips to help you prepare for the conference:
• Make sure your chapter has paid state and national dues for all members.• Check with your state adviser to determine if any travel arrangements are made by your state, and if so, what is included. If not,
you must make arrangements for transportation, accommodations, and conference registration.
If you have a student who is competing:• Carefully read the 2014–15 Competitive Events Program guidelines, which are in your Chapter Management Handbook. • Check with your state adviser or competitive events coordinator for special deadlines for report or résumé submissions.
State advisers also will receive any competitive event updates.• Conference registration must be paid in order to compete.
Schedule a meeting with all conference attendees:• Discuss expenses and help students determine how much spending money they will need for food, entertainment, and
souvenirs. Meals are not included in the conference registration fee.• Discuss appropriate clothing to pack.• Remind students to keep careful track of their badges, because there is a $5 fee per replacement badge.• Discuss appropriate behavior. Conference delegates represent the national organization, as well as their school and state.
FBLA delegates must read and sign the Code of Conduct, which their adviser should bring to the conference in case any infractions occur.
• Be sure all forms are signed.• Discuss the various sightseeing options.• Review all travel plans with attendees; where appropriate, provide parents and guardians with an itinerary and important
telephone numbers.• Attend an Adviser Orientation scheduled the � rst two days of the conference and receive your adviser gift.• Emphasize the importance of participating in conference activities (e.g. workshops, exhibits, etc.) to the fullest extent.
Before you depart for the conference:• Determine any allergies, physical disabilities, or limitations that your students may have. Notify the national center sta� of any
disabilities that may require special services using the Special Needs form located at fbla-pbl.org/2015NLC.• Check with your school’s accounting department to ensure all checks have been mailed for conference registration and hotel
reservations.• If you did not receive a hotel con� rmation, call the hotel to con� rm your reservation was received. Document the name of the
hotel representative and the date and time of your conversation.• Bring to the conference copies of your original hotel reservation and conference registration forms, as well as your con� rmation
for each person.
At the conference: • Schedule a meeting with attendees after you’ve arrived at the conference and picked up your registration packet.• Review the conference program in detail.

Preparing for FBLA-PBL Competitive EventsOnline Events
• Arrive 15 minutes early to the online events.• All objective tests are on computers. Check the schedule in
the program for speci� c times. Several team events require an objective test and several events start on Day 1.
• If you have questions or can’t sign on, raise your hand.• For team events, all members must be present to take the test. • Review the NLC program to see when your event is scheduled.
Times may change from the listing in this conference guide. • Basic calculators will be provided, as well as online calculators.
PBL members may bring � nancial calculators for accounting, � nance, and all analysis and decision making events.
• Cell phones and other electronic devices are not allowed.• Bring a pencil or pen.• Listen carefully to the directions.
Performance Events• Review the national guidelines and rating sheets on the
website or in the Chapter Management Handbook.• Introduce yourself, providing your name, school, and state to
judges.• O� er your hand for a handshake in the interview events.• Make eye contact with the judges.• All team members must participate in the presentation.• Many performance events are interactive. Judges may
role-play or ask questions during the presentation. Review the guidelines and rating sheets.
Competitive Events Using Equipment• An individual or team has � ve minutes to set up equipment.
The clock starts running even if the individual or team isn’t set up.
• There is no practice time available.• See page 3 for list of events for which internet access will be
provided in the performance rooms.
Sequestered Events• PBL members will not be sequestered in either the preliminary
or � nal round.• FBLA members will not be sequestered in the preliminary
round, but will be sequestered in the � nal round.• When sequestered, a participant may not communicate with
anyone from outside the room, including coming and going to the practice and performance rooms. Participants are allowed to bring reading materials and food into the room.

Adviser Training ResourcesFBLA advisers will have the opportunity to attend sessions of any of the training tracks at IFL. They will also receive the Adviser’s Guide to Institute for Leaders which features key training lessons, presentation templates, leadership activities, and a suggested time frame to reinforce training with IFL attendees or use back home in the classroom chapter setting.
IFL Attire Attire on day one of IFL is FBLA-PBL spirit attire. Show your state and chapter pride by wearing your state/local chapter polo. Attire on day two of IFL is professional dress. Follow the FBLA-PBL dress code. Jeans, T-shirts, and shorts are not appropriate on either day. Polos on day one are only permitted if they are FBLA-PBL branded shirts.
IFL PaymentIFL conference fees are separate from the NLC (see page 6) and must be paid in advance or on-site at the conference. Purchase orders do not constitute payment. If your school is not paid in full, students will be ineligible to participate in the IFL.
