As you can see here in Preferences > General > Start Up Action, I have selected “Select a Template”. I recommend you select this option if you like Logic to “ask you” what to do when opening Logic for the first time.

The first thing we’re going to learn is to tell Logic how to behave when we open it for the first time.

As you can see here in Preferences > General > Start Up Action, I have selected “Select a Template”. I recommend you select this option if you like Logic to “ask you” what to do when opening Logic for the first time.

There’s another option here called “Ask” which you would think does the same thing, but the reason I don’t like this is because the options are limited compared to the option you get with “Select a Template”.

As you can see this window is bigger and full of options:

I can select “New Project”, “Recent”, “Demo Project”, “My Templates” (I get all my templates listed here), “Previous Projects”, and I also get a “Details” tab here with more available options.

You can tell Logic to use or not a musical grid. You would not use a musical grid if you wanted to edit audio where there’s nothing related to music. Below it you can find many other useful preferences for your session.
