THE STORY OF OUR REDEMPTION We begin the final week of Lent with these familiar readings. This year, we hear the Passion from the Gospel of Luke. These readings for Palm Sunday and the Passion used to be read on successive Sundays. Now they are combined into a single feast, so that we may see the whole sweep of the glory and the suffering played out. Jesus accepts the adulation of the crowd, the foreshadowing of his glory in the Resurrection. He bids farewell to his disciples in his last Passover, and for-gives his tormentors as he dies on the cross. Catherine’s Letters to the Future
Again, in the latter half of March 1376, Catherine wrote to a cardinal: “I say you are a pillar to keep this bride’s home safe. So you must be strong, not weak; for weak things topple with the slightest wind—whether that wind is difficulty, or some wrong that may be done to us, or too much of the world’s abundance and pros-perity, pleasure and grandeur.” In that same letter, she seems to offer advice to Catholics tempted to give up on the Church, saying we must ”invest our affection, our desire, our love in something stronger than our-selves—I mean in God, the source of all strength. He is our God who loved us without being loved.” “And once we have discovered and experienced such a gentle love, strong beyond all other strength, we cannot cling to or desire any other love but him.” she continues. The packet includes pinwheel stickers, deco-rations and children’s activities as well as informative articles to help parents and other caring adults learn about how to protect our children and youth. This campaign provides another opportunity to transform awareness into action as we affirm every child’s right for a life filled with hope, health and happiness.
