1. What is this place? Have you ever been to a place like this? (Bush, forest, trees) 2. What living things might you expect to find here? Why do these living things need this place to be healthy? (You might find birds, insects, koalas, possums, wombats, kangaroos, lizards etc. These animals will use this place for food, water and shelter.) 3. How do humans use this place? Why do we need this place to be healthy? (Humans need trees for wood and paper. We also get many medicines from plants. Forests also provide us with clean water and air. If this place becomes unhealthy then we will also be unhealthy because there will be less clean water and the air won’t be as clean.) 4. How can we look after this place? (We can look after forests/bush/trees by using less paper, and by buying wood and paper that come from forests that are grown specially for making paper and wood - FSC [Forest Stewardship Council] products. We can also help plants and animals that need forests by planting trees and gardens where animals can live, eat and drink.)

1. What is this place? Have you ever been to a place like this? (Beach, sand dunes, coast, ocean, sea)

2. What living things might you expect to find here? Why do these living things need this place to be healthy? (On the beach and in the dunes you might find nesting birds, insects and reptiles. In the sea you will find all sorts of plants - like seaweed - and animals - like fish, octopus, dolphins, whales, crabs, molluscs etc. All these creatures need this place to stay healthy because this is where they find food and shelter.)

3. How do humans use this place? Why do we need this place to be healthy? (Humans need the sea for food - most of the fish we eat comes from the sea. We also eat things like seaweed and molluscs. However, we also need the sea for having fun and enjoyment - if the sea was unhealthy we wouldn’t be able to enjoy it so much.)

4. How can we look after this place? (We can look after this place by keeping our beaches and seas free of rubbish, and by not eating too many fish!)

1. What is this place? Have you ever been to a place like this? (Farm, grassland, country)

2. What living things would you expect to find here? Why do these living things need this place to be healthy? (In a grassland you might find grass, trees, birds, kangaroos and reptiles. On a farm you might find farm animals, food plants like wheat or vegetables, and people. Things living in a grassland need this place to stay healthy for food and shelter.)

3. How do humans use this place? Why do we need this place to be healthy? (Humans need grasslands because all healthy grasslands make clean water and help keep the air fresh. Humans need farms for food. A farm that isn’t healthy won’t grow much food.)

4. How can we look after this place? (We can look after grasslands by letting them grow naturally, and by planting gardens where animals can live, eat and drink. We can look after farms by buying locally, seasonally and food grown organically.)

1. What is this place? Have you ever been to a place like this? (Coral reef, sea, ocean)

2. What living things might you expect to find here? Why do these living things need this place to be healthy? (You might find fish, octopus, sharks, sea snakes, corals, sponges etc. All these living things need this place for food and shelter.)

3. How do humans use this place? Why do we need this place to be healthy? (Humans use coral reefs for enjoyment, but we also get a lot of our fish from the ocean. We need coral reefs to be healthy so that we can still eat the fish we love.)

4. How can we look after this place? (We can look after this place by keeping our beaches and seas free of rubbish, and by not eating too many fish!)

1. What is this place? Have you ever been to a place like this? (River, creek)

2. What living things might you expect to find here? Why do these living things need this place to be healthy? (In the river you might find reeds and weeds, grass, fish, frogs, yabbies, eels and insects. In the trees you might find birds and insects. Things living in the river need the river to stay healthy for shelter and food. Things living around the river need the river for food and water.)

3. How do humans use this place? Why do we need this place to be healthy? (Humans use rivers for growing food, for fishing and for enjoyment. If the river isn’t healthy there might not be enough water for growing food or for the fish to be healthy enough to catch.)

4. How can we look after this place? (We can look after this place by making sure we don’t use too much water, and by keeping rubbish out of the river and off the riverbanks.)

1. What is this place? Have you ever been to a place like this? (Antarctica)

2. What living things would you expect to find here? Why do these living things need this place to be healthy? (You might find seals, whales, krill, penguins and other seabirds here. There are only two types of plants living in Antarctica! All these living things need Antarctica to be healthy for food and shelter.) 3. How do humans use this place? Why do we need this place to be healthy? (Humans don’t really use Antarctica, except for enjoyment. However, we need Antarctica to be healthy because if all the ice in Antarctica melted, all this water would go into the sea, making the sea rise, and this might affect the coastlines where we live.)

4. How can we look after this place? (We can look after Antarctica by helping the ice to stop melting. We can do this by using less electricity - electricity heats up the air around Earth, making ice melt. We can also look after this place by keeping our beaches and seas free of rubbish.)
