14 Cone Games 1. Domes and Dishes Place 5 cones flat on the floor facing down and 5 cones facing upwards. In 30 seconds children must turn as many cones over as possible. Create 2 teams with each wanting cones as domes and dishes. 2. Goodies and Baddies Place 4 hoops in four corners of the room and get out 16 cones. Place 8 cones within the 4 hoops and place 8 hoops in the middle of the space. Split children into 2 teams, one team wants cones inside the hoop, the other wants to have them out of the hoops in the space. 30 seconds high intensity games 3.Goodies and Baddies (advanced w/ colour) Same principle as previous game Place 4 coloured hoops in 4 corners (i.e red blue green yellow) 4 sets of 4 coloured cones matching the 4 coloured hoops. Split children into two teams One team wants the correct coloured cones in the correct coloured hoops One team wants the incorrect coloured cones in the incorrect coloured hoops 4. Relay Outside set 3 coloured hoops at one end of the space Spit the children into 3 coloured teams with cones to represent One at a time children have to run to put their cone in the hoop and run back tag a friend and go through till everyone has put their cone in the hoop. 5. Jumping cones Give each child their own cone. Place cones on the floor and demonstrate how to step over forwards/backwards, side to side, jump over forwards/backwards Break down movement so children understand how to perform movements/actions To challenge some see if sequences of movements can be performed. 6. Balancing cones Give each child their own cone Can they balance the cone on different parts of their body Tell them where to place cone to start with then ask children to name different parts of the body

14  Cone  Games      

                                                                                 

1. Domes  and  Dishes  

⁃ Place  5  cones  flat  on  the  floor  facing  down  and  5  cones  facing  upwards.    

⁃ In  30  seconds  children  must  turn  as  

many  cones  over  as  possible.

2.  Goodies  and  Baddies

7.  Hide  and  seek    

⁃ Outdoors  or  indoors  

⁃ Hide  a  cone  in  a  discreet  area,  ask  children  to  work  together  to  find  it.  

⁃ Split  children  into  teams,  each  team  has  to  find  a  specific  coloured  cone,  first  team  to  find  the  correct  cones.    

 

8.  Addition  and  subtraction    

⁃ Use  cones  as  visual  aid  for  addition  and  subtraction.    

⁃ Place  cones  on  the  floor,  add  more  and  ask  children  how  many  there  is,  same  with  subtraction  .  

 

9.  Addition  and  subtraction  (advanced  w/  colour)  

⁃ Place  selection  or  cones  on  the  floor  

⁃ Ask  children  to  count  up  how  may  of  a  certain  colour  they  see.  

⁃ “if  you  add  all  the  green  and  yellow  cones  how  many  can  you  do?”  

 

10.  Find  the  number  

⁃ Print  out  and  laminate  numbers  on  paper  and  cut  to  size  

⁃ Place  numbers  underneath  cones.  

⁃ Ask  one  child  at  a  time  to  find  a  number  as  fast  as  possible  

⁃ Using  the  numbers  that  children  have  found,  can  each  child  say  it  and  draw  it.  

⁃ Make  up  sums  to  work  out  

11.  Find  the  letter    

⁃ Print  out  and  laminate  letters  on  paper  and  cut  to  size  

⁃ Place  letters  underneath  comes    

⁃ Ask  one  child  at  a  time  to  find  a  letter  as  fast  as  possible    

⁃ Using  the  letters  found  can  each  child  say  it  and  draw  it  for  themselves    

 

12.  Find  a  friend    

⁃ Take  a  picture  of  each  child  at  the  start  of  the  year  

⁃ Print  out  and  laminate  each  picture  

⁃ Place  pictures  underneath  cones  

⁃ Ask  children  to  find  a  friend  and  learn  their  name  

 

13.  Target  

⁃ Hand  each  child  their  on  cone  and  beanbag    

⁃ Place  cone  upside  down  on  the  floor  

⁃ Children  stand  5  yards  or  so  back  and  try  to  see  how  close  they  can  throw  the  beanbag  to  the  cone  or  even  hit  it  

 

14.  Obstacle  

⁃ create  an  obstacle  course  using  cones  

⁃ create  the  course  so  it  incorporates  change  of  direction  and  different  method  of  movements  (tip  toes,  crouch,  stretch,  sideways,  backwards)  

⁃ get  children  to  move  through  course  at  variable  speeds  (slow,  fast,  slow  fast)
