DESCRIPTION

In 2001, the Wilmington City Council took a community generated Neighborhood Schools Plan and refined it. This plan was approved by the Council as a recommendation to protect the future integrity of city schools. Then-Wilmington Mayor James Baker vetoed the plan (his letter explaining why is included here), but the Council overrode his veto and the plan was for delivered to the state legislature in March 2001. From that point, no further action proceeded from the recommendations.
