Thank you for responding so generously to meet critical needs in our community through your United Way. As a member of the United Way Leadership Circle, you stepped forward to help raise $11.8 million in support of the local network of health and human services in Montgomery, Greene and Preble Counties. Your generosity helped achieve the community-wide goal for the second year in a row, at a critical time when many of our neighbors increasingly must turn to United Way agencies for help.

As our community goes through the transition from a manufacturing town to a region whose strengths are aerospace research and development, information technology, advanced manufacturing, entrepreneurship, and health and human service, our future is filled with endless possibilities of success. In order for our community to grow and prosper we need to come together and remember those less fortunate. As a member of the Leadership Circle you continue to make a difference in the lives of your neighbors each and every day.

The Alexis de Tocqueville Society of United Way of the Greater Dayton Area was founded in 1986 to recognize and encourage exemplary leadership gifts by

individuals who generously donated $10,000 and above. The society is named for Alexis de Tocqueville, the nineteenth century French aristocrat who wrote

“Democracy in America”. In this work, a study of American society and politics, Tocqueville declared his admiration for the American philanthropic spirit, which he

believed to be one of our country’s greatest assets.

Foreclosure PreventionMontgomery County has lead the state and Ohio leads the nation in home foreclosures. A collaboration of nonprofit organizations, government and financial institutions are working to reduce our community’s high foreclosure rate by helping families at risk before it is too late.

Relief for Displaced Workers United Way’s HelpLink™ 2-1-1 Information and Referral has taken the lead in mobilizing local organizations to be prepared to help families cope during the life-altering experience of losing a job by connecting these workers with essential human services for everyday needs and in times of crisis.

United Way’s Volunteer ConnectionUnited Way is now the first place to turn for volunteer referrals in Montgomery, Greene and Preble Counties. Hundreds of volunteer opportunities for groups, individuals and youth at local nonprofit agencies can be found at www.volunteerdayton.org.

Strong Kids for Strong CommunitiesUnited Way has taken the lead on developing community partnerships with local school districts, Juvenile Court, Dayton and Montgomery County Public Library, the faith community and health and human service organizations on behalf of children and teens in the Miami Valley and to provide capacity building activities to youth-serving organizations and institutions. The effort uses an asset-based model that works to strengthen and increase the assets of every child, rather than “fix” the deficits and help ensure that our youth are prepared to become successful and productive adults and have the skills needed for the jobs of the future.
