The original predecessor firm of Riter, Rogers, Wattier &Brown was formed and commenced the practice of law inPierre, South Dakota about 100 years ago. Over the yearssome members of the firm left the firm for judgeships,some for retirement, several moved away and one becamegeneral counsel, vice president and served on the board ofdirectors of Standard Oil of Indiana, which is now B PAmoco.

The firm has the distinction of having two currentmembers who have served as President of the SouthDakota State Bar as well as two former members who haveserved in that capacity.

The firm has a wide and varied practice of law, particu-larly in central South Dakota, but practices statewideworking generally in litigation and appearances beforeState boards, commissions and departments and lobbyingbefore the legislature and in representing many individual

and corporate clients, and various departments of stategovernment and public bodies.

Firm members have spent considerable time represent-ing insurance companies in defense of casualty suits andproducts liability claims, as well as representing insuredsin other matters.

The firm has done considerable work in the fields ofregulatory law, banking, contracts, real estate, title work,probate and trusts, and has done some criminal defensework.

The firm has represented C T Corporation system formore than 50 years.
