the introductory rites Entrance Hymn

1. The Church's one foundationis Jesus Christ her Lord; she is his new creationby water and the Word. From heaven he came and sought herto be his holy bride; with his own blood he bought her,and for her life he died.

2. Elect from every nation,yet one o'er all the earth; her charter of salvation,one Lord, one faith, one birth; one holy name she blesses,partakes one holy food, and to one hope she presses,with every grace endued.

3. Mid toil and tribulation,and tumult of her war, she waits the consummationof peace forevermore; till, with the vision glorious,her longing eyes are blest, and the great church victoriousshall be the church at rest.

4. Yet she on earth hath unionwith God the Three in One, and mystic sweet communionwith those whose rest is won. O happy ones and holy!Lord, give us grace that we like them, the meek and lowly,on high may dwell with thee. Music: AURELIA Samuel Sebastian Wesley (1810-1876)

Text: Samuel Stone (1839-1900)

2. In the morning of life, and at noon, and at even, he called them away from our worship below;

but not till his love, at the font and the altar, had girt them with grace for the way they should go.

3. These stones that have echoed their praises are holy, and dear is the ground where their feet have once trod; yet here they confessed they were strangers and pilgrims, and still they were seeking the city of God.

4. Sing praise, then, for all who here sought and here found him, whose journey is ended, whose perils are past: they believed in the Light; and its glory is round them, where the clouds of earth's sorrow are lifted at last.
