Mission Statement
To improve the economic prosperity and quality of life of our members through leadership, education and business advocacy.
Primary Objectives
To ensure a stable, financially sound Chamber by focusing on core activities and solid execution:- Generating business opportunities- Creating an environment for sustained prosperity- Leading economic development efforts- Providing an environment for networking- Raising awareness of key issues
Secondary Objectives
Position the Chamber to LEAD. The Chamber Staff, Board of Directors and Committees working to build collaborative efforts focused on bettering:- Our economy- Our talent- Our community

State and National Recognition and Service
� Chamber President Phyllis Snodgrass served on Board of Regents for U.S. Chamber’s Institute for Organization Management, West Institute Site
� Chamber President Phyllis Snodgrass appointed by Governor Perry to serve on the State P-16 Council
� Chamber President Phyllis Snodgrass served on Oversight Board for South West Texas Border Region - SBDC
� EDSM San Marcos presented top award from Business Retention and Expansion International (BREI) for the “Grow One San Marcos” program.
� EDSM Director, Amy Madison, served on the Educa-tion Committee for the Texas Economic Develop-ment Council
� CVB Director, Rebecca Ybarra-Ramirez served on the Board of Directors of the Texas Association of Convention and Visitor Bureaus

Membership
- Introduced Tier Memberships in 2009! - Added 200 new members at Membership Event 2009!- Closed year with 47 tier members, 953 total members!
2008/2009 Accomplishments and Awards
Business Expo 2009
- Revamped San Marcos Business Expo, taking it to the City of San Marcos Conference Center and increasing visibility and attendance.
- Completely sold out with 110 booths.

Chamber Luau
- Increased attendance and participation in Annual Luau – estimated attendance 150, exceeded projected income

Tri-City Golf Fest
- Over 950 golfers attended the 4 day tournament, now in it’s 38th year
- Offered hole sponsorship opportunities to members in 2009
Governmental Affairs
- Successfully promoted Road Bond Package – Fall 2008;- Advocated against Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) –
Spring 2009- Partnered with Texas Prosperity Project -linked to
website, Fall 2008- Instituted Permit Follow-up Program to monitor city
permitting process and provide support to businesses building in San Marcos

Education and Workforce Development
- Conducted first annual San Marcos Education Fair;- An outreach effort to deliver a message of higher educa-
tional attainment- Event in October 2008, over 1,500 attended event- Event in October 2009 brought in over 2,000 attendees
- Stay in School = success messaging in place through posters and ads run at local movie theatre
- Partnered with Austin Chamber of Commerce and SMCISD on first Education Progress Report for San Marcos
- Created the first Educational Promotional brochure to actively promote San Marcos public education system to newcomers
- Merged “Mentors Make a Difference” program with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hays County (BBBS) – increased BBBS bowling fundraiser from $3k to $10k income
- Conducted FAFSA workshop for SMCISD, Spring 2009- Conducted 1st “Early Readers Make Leaders” Pre-K Book
Drive, July 2009- Partnered with Rotary Club of San Marcos and Workforce
Soultions Rural Capital Area Board on Annual Job Fair at San Marcos Activity Center, Spring 2009

Economic Development
- Hired Market Street Services to conduct Comprehensive Economic Development Strategic Plan for San Marcos
- Organized “Partners for Progress” to fund and oversee strategic planning
- Raised $150,000 through Partners for Progress to be matched with city contributions during plan implementation
- Created “Grow One” BRE program and used program to successfully land HEB expansion, Spring 2009
Tourism Development
- Hired Tom Cannon, Lofty Ideas, to conduct a Tourism Program Study including Current Tourism Program Evaluation, development of Tourism Advocacy Strat-egy, Tourism Economic Impact study, Destination Audit, Visitor Intercept Study, revised Marketing Plan, Creation of a Board Orientation Program and Salary Study of comparable CVB’s;- Project is currently 75% complete; some studies
continue to gather information through Fall 2009 and early Spring 2010
- Celebrate Tourism Annual Luncheon launched July 2009
- Tourism Economic Impact Study released July 2009
