On behalf of The Board of Directors and members of the North Carolina Chapter of SIM (Society for Information Management), our keynote speakers and our esteemed Advisory Council, we would like to welcome you to the 7th Annual CIO Forum & Executive IT Summit. It is intended to benefit CIOs and Senior IT Executives throughout the Carolinas on an annual basis.

This conference is produced by and for the leading CIOs and IT Executives throughout the Carolinas. The conference was developed in conjunction with the Executive Advisory Council members in direct response to the concerns and critical topics of interest from CIOs and Senior IT Executives throughout the region. We are confident you will gain practical solutions to assist you with your business challenges.

At this year’s conference we have the unique opportunity for panel discussions and presentations that state problems and solutions in areas specific to the challenges faced by professionals in this region. You will have the opportunity to meet colleagues and leaders from businesses, government agencies, professional organizations, healthcare and academic institutions throughout the State of North Carolina. This will give you the opportunity to develop relationships and strengthen your business and economic environment through IT solutions.

Session 3 “IT GOVERNANCE: A CASE STUDY FOR THE PRACTICAL IMPLEMENTATION AT Empire A-B SIEMENS POWER”

Presented By: Greg Turner, VP & CIO, Siemens Power Transmission & Distribution, Inc. Panelist: Alan Tope, Board Member, NC Chapter of SIMDiscussion: Beginning in early 2007 and continuing into 2008, Siemens undertook a major initiative to address material weaknesses in its corporate governance and internal control systems. While many compliance programs directly impacted IT systems and controls, there was not a clear mandate coming from Munich that IT had the authority to make compliance related control updates. By mid-2007 it was clear that SPT&D’s already limited IT resources would have to be re-allocated from divisional user requested work in order to support the rapidly expanding role for IT in developing internal control systems.Problems included; lack of effective planning, IT resource allocations and structural concerns. Here about the implementation and evaluation including; things done right, things done wrong and the next steps.

9:00AM-10:30AM OPENING KEYNOTE – “STRATEGIC BUSINESS VIRTUALIZATION – CREATING AN Salon IV ADAPTIVE ENTERPRISE”

Presented by: Jack Wilson, Enterprise Architect, Asst. VP, Amerisure Mutual Insurance CompanyDiscussion: Virtualization is more than just a concept limited to hardware or software. It is a concept of removing all physical barriers to conducting business. Great strides have been made in terms of virtualizing servers and workstations and this has been a very important development. The question now becomes how wide and deep can we extend the concept of virtualization within an organization and how can it provide a competitive business advantage. Amerisure will be considered as a case study as a company that made the metamorphosis from a typical complex, inflexible, physically limiting infrastructure to a streamlined, flexible and agile virtual infrastructure. We’ll consider the phases and reach of the virtualization of the workstations, servers, mobile notebooks, softphones and information assets (documents, video, audio). This is reality not just theory and we’ll discuss lessons learned and suggestions for making this critical transition in any

organization.
