Correct seat position-ing is vital for yoursafety. Sit in an uprightposition and not tooclose to the instrumentpanel.

NEVER fit a child seat in front of the passengerAIRBAG. DEATH or SERIOUS INJURY can

occur. Children under 13 years of age or shorterthan 140 cm (56 inches) should travel in the rearseat. Do not put objects between the airbagsand occupants.

LATCH (Lower Anchorages & Top tethers forCHildren) consists of two types of attachmentsfor child restraints in the rear seat, the loweranchorages and the top tether. The loweranchorages are two rigid bars located in theseat bight.

ALWAYS move the drivers seat as far rear-wards as practically possible for maximumsafety and control. The airbag needs space toinflate.

Children from 3-12 years (15-36 kg/33-80 lbs, shorter than 140 cm/56 inches) should beseated in separate child seats or on boostercushions. Ensure that the child is seated as farback as possible. ABS-brakes

Your automatic transmission can also beshifted manually using a feature called"Sentronic". This system allows you to change

gears manually, using the controls on thesteering wheel (Aero models only) or the gearselector lever. You may wish to engage thisfeature, for example, when youre passing asthis allows you to remain in a lower gear for anextended period of time.

    To operate:

1 Move the gear selector lever to the M

position.2 Select a higher gear by pushing the right-

hand paddle on the steering wheel (abovethe steering wheel radio controls) (Aeromodels only) or pushing the selector leverforward.

3 Select a lower gear by pushing the left-handpaddle on the steering wheel (above thesteering wheel radio controls) (Aeromodels only) or pulling the selector leverback.

Changes from 3rdto 4thgear and from 4thto 5thgear can be made when the engine speed isabove roughly 2,000 rpm.

If the road surface is slippery, you may wish tostart off in 2ndor 3rdgear to reduce the risk ofwheel spin. When descending hills, select alow gear to increase the braking effort of theengine, thus sparing your brakes.

Manual gear selections will be shown on themain instrument panel. The selector positionand the current gear are displayed.

When the M position has been selected, theengine is much more responsive to changes inthe accelerator position it will also feeldifferently.

Note than when in the manual model, kick-down operates for 4thand 5thgears (below2,000 rpm). Kick-down cannot be activated in1st, 2nd, or 3rdgears.

    Electronic StabilityProgram (ESP)

This system uses both the Anti-Lock BrakingSystem (ABS) and Traction Control System(TCS) to help stabilize the car by braking one orseveral wheels independently of the driver.

Engine output is also reduced to prevent thefront wheels from spinning. ESP improves thedrivers chances of remaining in control of thevehicle in critical situations (severe evasiveaction needed to avoid hitting an animal, driverstarts to lose control ESP kicks in and helpsthe driver steer to safety).

Note!Drive responsibly. Do not rely on thesystems above to keep you safe. Use precau-tions when driving on slippery roads.

(See your Owners Manual, section Starting

    and driving).

    Traction Control System(TCS)

This system monitors the Anti-Lock BrakingSystem (ABS) sensors to detect when the front(driving) wheels are rotating faster than therear. If so, the engine torque is reduced to elim-inate the difference. It also monitors whetherone front wheel is rotating faster than the otherand will slow the faster wheel down until bothare rotating at the same speed.

Four sensors in the rear bumper help you inparking. Signals bounce back from objectsbehind the car. When reverse gear is selected, the system activates automatically and when anobject is detected within the monitored area, pulses of sound are heard. The frequency ofthese pulses increase as the car comes closerto the object, When approximately 1 ft (30 cm)from the object, a continuous tone will be heard.NOTE: the system cannot always detect smallor narrow objects (like a mailbox post) since the

surface area presented to the sensors is toosmall. Always take care when reversing.

(See your Owners Manual, section Startingand driving).

    For optimum performance Saab recommends:

    All engines: Unleaded AON 90

    Fuel tank capacity: 16.05 gallons

Gasoline with a lower octane rating can be used, althoughnot lower than AON 87. However, engine performance willfall slightly and heavy loading and laboring should beavoided. For optimum performance, use the recommendedgrade of fuel.
