Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters Annual Fishing Tournament News 2009 Tournament Future Ok for Now If you are receiving this letter then you are aware that we have a new format concerning all newsletters and mailings. The tournaments will send everything throgh the e-mail system. This is not only more economical but much quicker so please check your e-mails once in a while because you might receive a surprise. If you need help using the computer or internet do what I did when I was having trouble, ask any seven year old. The walleye tournament this year had to be moved to April 18 th this year due to the flood on the river. It would have been very difficult and unsafe to fish the original date. The good news was that the weather in April was beautiful and many fish were caught even though most were not legal size. It figures I finally see what those green fish look like and they were too small. It was fun anyways and I hope everyone who attended enjoyed the fishing too. Congratulations to John and Chris Perez from local # 1185 who won the tournament with 4 fish weighing in at a whopping 6.41 lbs. They said they were using 10 ounce purple jigs and caught most of the fish in the flooded cornfields just north of New Orleans. This pattern probably won’t help next year but you could try. Thanks for the help John and Chris. The bass tournament greeted us with water levels lower than last year but again steady action. There were 80 fish weighed-in which by far is the most we have had based on the amount of boats we had. There were 35 out of 50 teams which weighed-in fish at the scales. Nice job guys! The fish were definitely in a mood for biting and many “short” fish were caught and released. On tournament morning we were greeted with another tournament taking place on the lake but most fishermen still had action. It did not seem to matter what baits were being used because the fish were caught shallow and deeper. They were everywhere. This probably won’t help much as far as a pattern for next year but I have learned that information is always important even if only to eliminate the pattern. Congratulations to Joe Sanderson, local # 174, and his partner Adam Markiewicz, local # 1889, who won the tournament with a limit of 6 fish weighing-in at 13.13 lbs. Joe commented that they were culling fish early in the morning so they definitely found a bunch of keepers! The bass tournament is scheduled for September 25, 2010. Hope to see everyone there. As I was writing this newsletter we still weren’t sure if the tournaments would be sponsored by the Regional Council. I am happy to report that our President/EST Frank Libby has agreed to help the tournaments continue. I know the council has had to make many hard decisions lately and I am glad they will continue their support. Thank you to our President and Regional Council for providing what they can to help the members enjoy this worthwhile event. Page | 1

Volunteers Needed!

The tournaments are in need of volunteers to help with many areas. It takes a lot of time to run the tournaments and volunteers are needed to help with check-in, stuffing bags, mailings and contacting sponsors. If you helped in the past I thank you and ask for your continued support but we need new volunteers to also aid in the many tasks. The future will depend on you getting involved with helping the tournaments. Without you there is no tournament.
