The Crash Analysis and Reporting Unit compiles data and publishes statistics for reported motor vehicle traffic crashes per ORS 802.050(2) and 802.220(6). The data su pports various local, county and state traffic safety prog rams, e ngineering an d plan ning p rojects, le gislative con cepts, an d la w e nforcement services. Legally re portable motor vehicl e traffic cra shes a re those involving death, bodi ly injury, or damag e t o personal property in excess of $500 (for crashes that occurred prior to 9/01/1997) or $1,000 (for crashes that occu rred betwe en 9/0 1/1997 and 12/31/2003). As of 01/0 1/2004, d rivers a re requi red to file an Accident and Insurance Report Form with DMV withi n 72 h ours when damage to the drive r's vehicle is over $1,500; damage to any vehicle is over $1,500 and any vehicle is towed from the scene as a result of damage from the accident; if injury or death re sulted from the accident; or if damage to any one pe rson’s property othe r than a vehi cle involv ed i n the accide nt is over $1 ,500. For m ore info rmation on filing requirements, please contact DMV. The Cra sh A nalysis and Reporting Unit is commit ted to provid ing the high est quality crash d ata to customers. However, because submittal of crash report forms is the responsibility of the individual driver, the Crash Analysis and Reporting Unit cannot guarantee that all q ualifying crashes a re represented; nor can assurances be made that all details pertaining to a single crash are accurate. Database expansion and refinement implemented in 2002 may result in slight differences between data reported in this publication and similar information reported in prior years.
